Hurricane Sandy (1 Viewer)

Seven full shop vacs emptied and not making any ground, it's coming in faster than I can suck it up. :kicksrock:
Sorry gb
Thanks. It's only water. Everything's off the ground. We usually get a small puddle during really bad rains, thought a shop vac would suffice, boy was I wrong! It's coming through any and every crack in the basement floor. Trying to get up as much as possible before the inevetible power outage.

The thing is, aside from low lying coastal areas this is little more than a game of "house arrest" for 48-72 hours. Hang out...read a book. Drink a few beers. Listen to the wind and rain knowing that 99.99999999999% chance this is little more than an inconvenience. IMO hurricanes are fun if there's no real risk of flooding.
I agree and everyone on here sounds reasonable, I just don't think in our society we should project we are overreacting at all. If everyone just listened to the people in charge, then we'd be fine. But you have the people who didn't evacuate because it is an inconvenience even though the inconvenience now is much longer. And as you say, for most it is just house arrest and I'm enjoying it with everyone else on here and listening to the scanners, at least as long as I can but there are idiots who say this is nothing and are out driving and putting others in danger. You increase chance of accidents or going into water that is deeper than you think which puts the rescuers in trouble.

Mower Update?
The mower seems stable, however I doubt it will be starting
What am I missing? You need to cover your riding mower?
No the neighbor across the street. No shed, no garage and now no more tarp
 i'll watch out for the tarpdescription?
blue
This is horrible. I was operating under the mental image of it being black all along. :gamechanger:

no no no, this is a good thing. the local news may cover it now

Vivian Brown started her shift on The Weather Channel a little while ago and I can't watch her without thinking of that simple Uruk-Hai slobbering over her big juicy booty. :lmao:

ok

the governor just listed a #### ton of bridges that are closing

not being from NY i have no idea how significant this is

the tunnel is staying open, seems scary

Honestly if I wasn't going to lose power for a few days, this wouldn't be so bad.
Worse to come in the next 2-5 hours, once it hits land
I've been in Afghanistan, a category 2 hurricane isn't that terrifying. It's really more of an inconvenience for me but for guys like Otis it's the end of the world.
I think the reaction to this storm is pretty ridiculous for most people, but a cat 2 is 100mph winds which is twice what i'm experiencing today. That's a lot of wind.
I don't. Have you seen pictures of LBI, Ocean City, Atlantic City or some of NY. I'd say those conditions are life threatening and to call that an overreaction "ridiculous" sounds pretty shallow as emergency workers are continuing to put their lives on the line to do rescue missions. I would think an overreaction would be what you'd want. Better to be safe than sorry.
:goodposting: Better to overreact a little now than spend 5 days in the Pooperdome later.

It's pretty big.
if the city is concerned about flooding is the tunnel safe?
I'm pretty sure the tunnels were shut down some time ago
i may have misheard or he may have mispokeeither makes more sense than going in a tunnel

Just hoping to keep power long enough to enjoy John Skelton playing football.
It's a thing of beauty... not sure I would be able to cope with missing that virtuoso in action.
Mercer CountyNJLost power at 3:30. A couple of flickers earlier but this time seems for long term. One large limb came down no damage but wind just starting to really pick upWife was first to realize no MNF!

All personell in Atlantic City ordered off the road now.

The rescue operation is over.... If you're ####ed now, you're ####ed.
