Hurricane Sandy (1 Viewer)

It seems like the center is passing over the Philly area right now. Wind is still gusty but rain has stopped and wind is much less violent than a few hours ago.

What can be expected being on the east/south side of the storm now? It doesn't appear much rain on the radar. Is the wind worse on that side of the eye?

Considering making a beer run to 7/11. Only 2 blocks away. Think they're open?
It's 7-11, of course they'll be open.
I once went to a 7-11 and the owner was locking the door on his way out. I said I thought you were open 24 hours. He replied yeah, but not in a row...[/stevenwright]

Couple more hours of wind... much less rain than on the front end. Coastal areas will get more storm surge.

Appears the wind North of Philly has already switched directions indicating eye is on other side. The storm is moving fast and its rotation took it away from Philly and the Northeastern suburbs. Not a lot of rain expected for the Northeast as the South of Philadelphia and West continues to get killed with rain. Northeast Philly and suburbs may only see another inch or so in the next 12 hours. Almost seems that much if not all of the bad stuff is gone. Also doesn't look like it hit New York as hard although still waiting for the storm surge, wind still going to be an issue but the rain/snow will hit the West/South. Seems like the shore will be the major casualty. Still not in the clear but I guess we'll all have to thank all those who have summer homes for taking one on the chin for the rest of us.

I don't think it's that far inland yet...and it's supposed to stall for a little while too. Get ready for wind and rain for 24 more hours. Looking at radar though it looks like a lot of the moisture has been sucked into the other system it's colliding with, so western PA, central MD and northern VA are getting a lot of rain.

Wow Long Beach long island and amazingly the ocean has met the bay. Waves breaking on the board walk, all reporters ordered upstairs, NJ Burket for ABC 7 crapping his pants

I'm in the Northern suburbs of Philadelphia and it does appear to be that in-land. As you mention, I think the storm got broken up some went North into New York while some went South and is hitting Virginia and Maryland. Not sure if it will wrap around but some are speculating just 1 more inch of rain in Philadelphia.

The worst part so far for me has been trying to get my dog to take a dump in the rain. I dragged her out and she keeps darting back inside and then she sits in front of the door crying to go outside again.

wow...8 pages since i last checked in. Decided to take a long nap :)

Lots of rain in Norfolk area, localized flooding, but the wind, while nasty, hasn't been as bad as they said it would be. Power still on

I have a back deck so I'm taking my dogs out there and putting them under there. The male pees on whatever I have stored under the deck, the female runs across the yard and picks around for ten minutes before finding the perfect spot. Typical woman.

She's smart if she doesn't want to go out and get hit by falling trees or branches.

New tidal flood or surge record in the Battery NYC. 11.6 feet with high tide an hour and a half to go til high tide

Power is still on in Brooklyn although it continues to flicker. Every time the wind gusts the entire building shakes. The boy is sleeping, so I'm sipping a delicious Johnny Apple Beam.

At 7pm the official location was 74.4 west. Philly is past 75 west. About 35 miles south and east. Close enough.

Well that was during Irene, it has had a year to swim to Ocean City.

:goodposting: Cleaned up one accident already from my scared little rat.
My dog will not go to the bathroom indoors. Which is a good thing, but sometimes I wish she would so I could stop listen to her whining about wanting to go out and then darting right back in.

four dogs...always a pain when it's nasty out. one runs out and does his business and comes back. another plays in the rain forever. one we pretty much have to carry out and make sure she goes. the other just follows one of them and we always hope it's the boy so she comes right back.
