Four tractor trailers just piled up in the mountains of western Maryland. Blizzard conditions, no one hurt amazingly. I-68 westbound closed for a little while.

$15.8 Billion in the U.S., $19 billion total. Now they are saying the worst is coming to Maryland between midnight and 5 am and I think we've already gotten more rain than any other state.I saw $15.8 million but either way, the damage in New York wasn't as big as thought and still cost a billion in New York. The amount of money between the expensive real estate in New York and the Jersey Shore where houses might have just washed away will be astronomical. Imagine the values of those houses which may be condemned? And this will have more far reaching affects like shutting down Wall Street for days, subways for days, etc. Not sure if they'll be calculated in the damages, but the cost/burden this will put on the economy will be felt world wide.Yeah this one seems to have a lot more flooding and the snow make it less predictable over time. Irene had Tornadoes following her though, at least we wont have that problem. Irene caused $19 billion in damage, that's a tall order.Still too early to compare. Just updated to over 4 million out and I know people are saying this isn't as bad as Irene but for all intents and purposes it is. Perhaps individually it might not be, but on the whole and financially, it will be. Didn't see cranes or building facades fall off during Irene. I'd expect the number of power outages to continue to rise and power outages aren't the greatest indicator of which storm was worse. Irene was more widespread with all of her effects as outages spread throughout the East Coast. This seems more localized at least with the hurricane effects and it remains to be seen how the snow/rain to the West will continue to impact those states. Just look at the space picture comparing Irene to Sandy and I think you'll see whats worse. Not saying this is over because apparently it's gonna get bad again here, but 7.4 million lost power during Irene. That one just hugged the cost for days so the short-term damage was more severe. This one seems like it will last three more days with all the snow/rain and wind that is still to come. They said here 2.8 million across the storm without power250K in Manhattan out of power - river to river, below 35th StreetNYU Hospital backup power failed, trying to get patients transferred5 confirmed storm related deaths in the five boroughs

Those were independent points. Tornadoes are absolutely the most dangerous weather phenomenon and we have none with this Hurricane, that was my point.Irene's tornados had little to do with that $19 billion. Tornados very rarely ever cause a billion or more in damage. Only 6 in history have, and it requires adjusting 4 of them for inflation to get there. In my opinion it looks like Sandy has already caused more damage than Irene, but it's hard to judge at this point.Yeah this one seems to have a lot more flooding and the snow make it less predictable over time. What's your source on this, Doc?Now they are saying the worst is coming to Maryland between midnight and 5 am and I think we've already gotten more rain than any other state.![]()

I've taken the dogs out a couple times, walked up and down the street. Very surreal. Then a huge gust kicks up and reminds me Im in the middle of a hurricane. Definitely watching for flying branches.Just had a very large branch hit the side of the house. Went out to check it out and a branch about 4 inch in diameter smashed down on our deck. Good thing I had a hard hat on at the wife's insistence. I did not see any major damage but stuff is flying all over.
I think he means precipitation wise. Sandy got stuck like they said but further South and inland then they thought. This will wreak havoc in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, and Western PA going forward. What's your source on this, Doc?Now they are saying the worst is coming to Maryland between midnight and 5 am and I think we've already gotten more rain than any other state.![]()

Please don't put words in my mouth.50-80 mph wind gusts and heavy precipitation during the peak of the storm, which is midnight to 5 am. Thanks.I think he means precipitation wise. Which probably means another four inches on top of the eight that has fallen, in spite of the reports earlier today of 18" on the ground two hours before any precipitation fell.Blizzard warnings in WV...4 feet of snow possible. Wow that's insane.

Just a precaution alert, I hope.Oyster Creek Nuclear Plant has declared an alert due high water levels in the intake system.
Yeah, this guy doesn't have any commitment to the ratings. Least he can do is get washed away and drown.I'm very disappointed that this guy on CNN in a red jacket that has been in this intersection for like 4 hours hasn't fallen over yet. He keeps stumbling and catching himself. Just one faceplant into the water, is it too much to ask?
I'm constipated. Am I going to make it through this?Wow this is exactly what I just decided to do.Hurricane tip #2: If you still have power and might have to poop, then poop.

Money well spent on candles and batteries. Good thing you're prepared.I'm in Essex nj. Lost power 2 hours ago. Night keeps popping blue with transformer blowouts. I don't expect juice for 5 days right now
