I don't get the whole ask the "homer" thing (1 Viewer)

All these threads asking the "homer" for advice. What access does the "homer" have that everybody else doesn't have? Its not like they have inside information. The only thing the "homer" may see more of are the local news shows and if you're relying on the 4 minute sports segment on the nightly news for Fantasy advice, I wanna join your league.I guarantee if you follow a teams beat writter on Twitter and the "homer" doesn't, you'll have more info then them. I'm a Bears fan and don't know anymore then anyone else.
The people that actually have a rooting interest in the team have a better idea of who is actually helping the team and who isn't. It seems when you have a lot invested in the team itself, fantasy prospects do not come into play as much. If a fan of a team watches every game and almost every snap of a team every year, they are going to know more than most of everyone else. Most people just watch clips or catch certain parts of the game, making it easier to let small details slip through the cracks. The things homers help with is stuff like: how the line is playing, coaching/playcalling, late game play, etc. I may be wrong but thats usually what I look to homers for.

:goodposting: Homers also know things like contract status, preseason hype vs performance in reg season and personality/philosophy clashes between players and coaches. This is stuff you could find on your own...but who has the time to do that for every player you want to know about?

Agree quite a bit with what you say. I think you can get solid camp/preseason info from locals. Know personally I was giddy about Beanie's prospects seeing him this preseason. And was a steal at his ADP ....and his only competition went down.

I usually like to get opinions on any preseason action that I don't DVr or don't have time to see.

The last person I want to hear from is a "homer". They typically are blind to their teams one way or the other and cannot be trusted. I would much rather get a solid report about the Texans from a guy in Maine who is a big nerd like me and his objective is the same as mine, to improve his teams without having a care in the world for how the Texans are doing or will do next year. Also, I don't want a guy telling me what the local radio guys are saying or whatever because most of them are nuts too. The occasional times I listen to local Vikings radio I spend half the time rolling my eyes. Asking a homer was a great idea...and now we have the internet.

Look for the most focus from the guy furthest away from the team.
