Picked up my normal Eagle Rare and based on the recommendations here popped for the Angels Envy too. Impressed! Far and away the smoothest bourbon I've ever tasted! Thanks guys!

It's really hard to pin down because they were all pretty good and I was pretty tanked by the endIt sounds like you spent some time in Heaven, Guster. Which was your favorite out of those?
I'm hesitant to say that the Angel Envy is my new favorite based on one evening's tippling. I'll continue to evaluate the situation and get back to you!Dentist said:Which was the best bourbon you'd ever had? the eagle rare or the angel's envy?pablito said:Picked up my normal Eagle Rare and based on the recommendations here popped for the Angels Envy too. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=jr+ewing+bourbonNot a bourbon drinker, but my wife is looking for some J.R. Ewing memorial bourbon. She keeps reading about it but can't find it anywhere. Would anyone happen to know where she could find it?
Yea thanks. They gave us the same ol' links from February that she read four months ago. If you don't know, it's ok to just say so or, better yet, not try to be clever and post a useless response.http://lmgtfy.com/?q=jr+ewing+bourbonNot a bourbon drinker, but my wife is looking for some J.R. "Your craft rye whiskey is probably from a factory distillery in Indiana"
Not really news but an interesting read. This link has a list of all the labels using the MGPI juice: http://recenteats.blogspot.com/p/the-complete-list-of-american-whiskey.html
(It also lists every distillery by state and their labels sold, nice reference source)
Thanks for the info chauncey. I've known that this business was a tad incestuous, but this is ridiculous...http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/07/28/your-craft-whiskey-is-probably-from-a-factory-distillery-in-indiana.html

This is a reason why I really don't see the big market or need for craft whiskey the way there is with craft beer.pablito said:Thanks for the info chauncey. At least now I'll be able to knowingly patronize those folks who maker their own...
This is why I stick to bourbon and American whiskey. $25 won't get you a "cheap 80 proof go to". It'll get you a choice of over a dozen outstanding bourbons/ryes (I agree though, that JD is absolutely not in that group).17seconds said:It's the go to cheap stuff for sure. Regular JD is awful.Sabertooth said:Still a fan of just plain old Jameson.

Eh, it's Canadian whiskey.Doesn't seem to be alot of love for Crown, maybe its a generational thing but I love it.
I don't hate it, but I'm not a huge fan of "light, smooth" 80-proof Canadian whisky. Definitely never get the urge to pay $30 for it.Doesn't seem to be alot of love for Crown, maybe its a generational thing but I love it.
Rock Hill Farms Single Barrel - sorry you missed this one; it's exceptional.A couple months back, I managed to get free tickets to a bourbon tasting event in Louisville. It takes me less than 2 hours to get there, so I figured why not? I'm up for a random adventure.

I like the spirit of your post, but I must take issue with one thing. Yes, you can tell the difference between Evan and Jack. Evan is much, much better and an honest proof. Jack, and it's noxious banana flavor is still the only aged whiskey I'd rather just not drink. This thread needs a heathen. Gimme a $20 handle of Evan Williams anyday. For a man of my means and whiskey drinking capacity its just the thing.
Put it next to JD and I couldn't tell you the difference and its half the price.
I might like the nicer whiskies but it just seems like a sucker bet for me.
Don't get me wrong I'll drink YOUR nice whiskey if you're sharing. But if I'm buying we're getting after the Evan.
I've got a couple bottles of that at home, so no need to try it thereRock Hill Farms Single Barrel - sorry you missed this one; it's exceptional.A couple months back, I managed to get free tickets to a bourbon tasting event in Louisville. I really love Angel's Envy. I think the finishing in port barrels really smooths out the finish of the bourbon. It is so smooth with minimal ethanol burn on the finish. I highly recommend it.I'm hesitant to say that the Angel Envy is my new favorite based on one evening's tippling. I've kept the rest of this bottle hidden but polishing it off tonight. HER: "I used a new recipe. So you really liked it?"
ME: "Yep, it was fantastic - what did you do?"
HER: "Well, it called for whiskey so I just used the one you left sitting out last night. It said whiskey."
ME (nervously): "You used my bourbon? Which one?"
HER: "I think it was Angel something - I put it away"
ME: "How much did you use?"
HER: "It called for a cup."
