I was THIS close to getting a 2014 Thomas Handy Sazerac at 79.99 yesterday.... one person up on a list snagged it.

If you're a collector, it's a nice one to have on the shelf as he's kinda a legend. If you want to make some money, there would be a large market willing to pay a nice premium that would maybe cover anything else you bought in the shop that day.
Not sure there are any other master distillers I'd care to have sign a bottle, but he's out soon and would be a "why not" thing for me I guess.

I buy whiskey to drink, not to flip. I'm not against getting an autograph... I had Jim sign my tasting notebook. It just feels like the old guy at a baseball guy pushing little kids out of the way so he can get an a player's autograph when you do it just to increase the value of a bottle. That's awesome for ya. I'm not talking about fanboying it up... but as a parting gesture after chatting, I don't see how having him sign a bottle is any different than a tasting notebook.
I'd like to have it on my shelf as a conversation piece, memento, if I was to get one.I have "flipped" 1 bottle in my life.. won it in a raffle for $18 and had no business drinking it (EC23) so I sold it for retail ($225). I currently have about 30 bottles on the shelf... the only ones that aren't open are because they're duplicates. I don't think the two are mutually exclusive.
Looks like I may have a bite on trading the EC18 for a 2014 WLW already, which would have been my goal for selling the EC18.... so that would work out nicely, I think.

Yes!! My favorite distillery. Enjoy!Their own make stuff is pretty good (and aging).
Some of their sourced products are absolutely amazing.
I'm a huge fan of Noah's Mill and enjoy Rowan's Creek and Johnny Drum too. Their Willett Family Estate offerings are always good and occasionally absolutely f'ing amazing

What barrel #? Saw some pics of the 11 year from yesterday (likely the same barrel) and that juice looked dark! Bet it's really goodBought a Willet single barrel 11 year bourbon.

Can't find Weller 12 here, but a local shop had a store picked Single Barrel Select of Old Weller Antique 107 come in. At $46 for a handle it wasn't bad. I found a few folks on the FB groups who wanted to swap two Weller 12 750ml for em so I shipped two off and got 4 more bottles of my favorite juice in at a average cost of about $26ea including shipping. 
That sets me at 6 bottles in the "bunker".
Taking one of those out this weekend for a guys weekend / bachelor party... 8-10 of us heading out for 3 days at an off-road park in the hills of NW Alabama. Plan is camping & Jeeping then drinking by the fire at night. Have a full cord of seasoned oak being delivered at the campsite tonight. Bringing 3 handles of Evan Williams Black Label (the official mixing bourbon of these outings) and a 750ml of W12 for sipping. Planning on hitting a store or two on the way into town to see if any gems are lingering. Doesn't look like BTAC has landed in bama yet.
Should be a good weekend.
Oh.. buddy scored a bottle of '15 Handy and 15' Eagle Rare 17 last week... BTAC has landed in MS. Cracked the ER17 with him last Sunday. Damn fine pour. A/B'd it against his store pick of ER10 and it was no comparison.

Between Angels Envy Rye and Whistle Pig Rye you are pretty much set for life as far as Rye's go.

Those are both sourced ryes... Angel's Envy from MGPI and Whistle Pig from Alberta Premium.
Doesn't mean they are bad, but in general I tend to try to focus on own-make when possible.
Russel's Reserve Rye, Wild Turkey 101 Rye (if you can find it... was out of production for a little but should be coming back) and Sazarac Rye (aka Baby Saz, not the one in the BTAC) are ones I typically turn to.

Jealous... seems like KY is nearly completely dry when it comes to BTAC. Massive cutbacks in KY compared to other states, especially with WLW and GTS.
If you ever get the chance, do a side-by-side with the '15 ER17 and '13 ER17. The '13 has older stock (19+ years) - haven't had the '15 so would be interesting to see the difference.

So good when mixed properly... got excited about Angels Envy old fashioneds one night at a rooftop bar with some buddies after a draft.... ordered some finger foods and kept going back for round after round of the OF's.... Tab comes and is over $300. oops.

I'm not a whiskey fan (really bad experience when I was a stupid teenager). I was given a "thank you" bottle of Woodford Reserve by a co-worker.

Woodford and Coke (adjust ratio to your taste) is a great basic mixer.
Old Fashioned is a classic. I prefer a sugar cube dashed with bitters and muddled over the simple syrup.
A Manhattan is another classic.
Both are generally supposed to be rye whiskey cocktails, but are extremely good with bourbon.

Landed a bottle of the ECBP release #9 this week. EC18 also supposedly around, but I haven't seen it. I have both the #8 and #9, saving them for a barrel proof tasting in the near future.

Yeah, sometimes I just want a mix to kick back. Evan or JB Black is my go to for that.Try Evan Williams Black Label.... $20 per 1.75L and some prefer it, myself included.
That said... definitely nice sometimes to splash some coke into some basic stuff
a few weeks ago and finally filled the flask and took it to a game. It wasn't half bad.

Peychaud's. It's part of what is widely recognized (by some) as the first ever cocktail, born in New Orleans... the Sazarac. Should be great for what you seem to be looking for.
Angustora Aromatic is another option, and a tasty Orange bitters by Reagan's. I have another but dont remember, use those most.

I would start with pouring 2oz
wave: woz) into a low ball glass and add 3-5 ice cubes. Let it rest for 15 minutes so the ice has a chance to melt and mellow the bourbon.Over time you can cut back on the number of ice cubes

Yeah this is my thoughts. I used to care about crap like that, but woodford isn't rare and it's not anything too special. If a splash of coke is something that might help someone break into the world of bourbon/whiskey.... there are worse bottles to taint with cola than something as readily available as Woodford. I used to be a whiskey and coke guy and it helped me ease into drinking it on rocks and then neat.It's a $40 bottle, coke away if that's your taste
Now, If we were talking something harder to get...different story. Again, JMHO.
EDIT: On rocks with letting air/ice mellow it out is preferred... certainly. But absent that, I wouldn't get mad at anyone for using coke as training wheels with my ever-present bottle of woodford.

Just got a random text from a BBQfest buddy who works at a liquor store:
"Hey our antique allotment came in, I have four bottles left"
I let boss know I was ducking out and was in my car within 3 minutes. Their allotment was: 1 WLW, 1 Stagg, 1 Eagle Rare 17, 2 Sazerac 18, and 3 THHandy Saz. The WLW went to a buddy of mine who's been doing business with them for years. I got the Eagle Rare 17.
Having had tasted the ER17 and the THH so far from the 2015 BTAC, I'll say I'm VERY glad to have gotten the former. The Handy simply isn't really that good IMO... at least not worth the premium over comparable Ryes. The ER17, however, is a phenomenal pour IMO. I wish it was barrell proof like most of the BTAC, but it's still some damn good bourbon.
My 3 other "Main" Shops that I'm hoping will bear fruit have yet to get their cases in.... going back out to make the rounds tomorrow at lunch to see what's around/available. Fingers Crossed....

Totally agree. I got into scotch/bourbon about 8 years ago because some guys at work were into it. The only way I could handle it was with some coke. They made fun of me for awhile, but eventually I "graduated" to rocks->neat and now I'm a full-fledged whiskey guy.Yeah this is my thoughts. Hit ####hole liquor store friday and ran into crazy drunk old ******** who owns it.... has run it for 30 years. Very interesting dude. Chatted for about an hour about various stuff and he repeatedly said he saves his good stuff behind the counter for folks who appreciate it. Lamented on the relatively unavailability of W12.
Today I dropped by his shop and gave him one of my W12's. He tried to give me the two bottles of wine I was grabbing but told him don't sweat it and insisted on paying. Said I was happy to see the bottle going to a fan. He said he was going to try to set something aside for me from the BTAC/Pappy releases. Will see if the gamble pays off.
Have a friend in the dallas area trying to track down a case of W12 for me at retail ($28-30) and bootleg it up when she comes home for a week next month. Fingers crossed.

I'm intrigued. Was mixing Old Fashioneds Sat night with Willett 2yr Rye, EHT Small Batch and Rye, and McKenna 10yr BIB. Fun tasting the flavor shifts.
Also sipped on the new Elijah Craig 18 (very good), 2015 BTAC TH Handy (meh), and 2015 BTAC Eagle Rare 17 (extremely good). Great night of drinking.
