A buddy raves about the AE Finished Rye.It's a little more pricey, but I just can't get enough of the Angel's Envy Rye. I also really like Templeton Rye which should be right in your price range.Buffalo Trace-nice
Eagle Rare -really liked
Woodford Resv- not a fan , didn't grab me
Bulleit- 2 thumbs up
Four Roses Small Batch- my favorite so far
Time to do some shopping , where do I go next? Probably in the $30-50 range. might also grab a bottle of Rye for Manhattens
Bardstown is probably Haven Hill or Four RosesGoing to Bardstown? Not sure of the specific distillery.
A mile from Heaven Hill is Willett. Definitely go there. And text me what they are selling in the gift shop that dayGoing to Bardstown? Not sure of the specific distillery.
Why?If Jim Rutledge is around at Four Roses (if you go)... definitely get him to sign a bottle.
If you're a collector, it's a nice one to have on the shelf as he's kinda a legend. If you want to make some money, there would be a large market willing to pay a nice premium that would maybe cover anything else you bought in the shop that day. Why?If Jim Rutledge is around at Four Roses (if you go)... definitely get him to sign a bottle.
I've picked barrels with Jim before, had lunch with him, etc. When I hang out with a guy like that, I want to talk and learn about whiskey. If you're a collector, it's a nice one to have on the shelf as he's kinda a legend. I buy whiskey to drink, not to flip. I'm not against getting an autograph... I had Jim sign my tasting notebook. It just feels like the old guy at a baseball guy pushing little kids out of the way so he can get an a player's autograph when you do it just to increase the value of a bottle. To each his own I suppose![]()

I was THIS close to getting a 2014 Thomas Handy Sazerac at 79.99 yesterday.... one person up on a list snagged it.

Jealous... seems like KY is nearly completely dry when it comes to BTAC. Massive cutbacks in KY compared to other states, especially with WLW and GTS.Oh.. buddy scored a bottle of '15 Handy and 15' Eagle Rare 17 last week... BTAC has landed in MS. Cracked the ER17 with him last Sunday. Damn fine pour. A/B'd it against his store pick of ER10 and it was no comparison.
So good when mixed properly... got excited about Angels Envy old fashioneds one night at a rooftop bar with some buddies after a draft.... ordered some finger foods and kept going back for round after round of the OF's.... Tab comes and is over $300. oops.Been on an old fashioned kick lately
Let's not do this.Gift shop is your friend. Lemme know where you're going in advance and may see if you can pick up a goodie to ship. I have PayPal and VenmoHeading to Kentucky for the weekend to visit some friends that own some restaurants. They might take us to some distilleries.will report back.

Woodford and Coke (adjust ratio to your taste) is a great basic mixer.I'm not a whiskey fan (really bad experience when I was a stupid teenager). I was given a "thank you" bottle of Woodford Reserve by a co-worker.
Need some recipe's, please and thanks.
This.Just re-gift the Woodford to someone who can appreciate imo.
Landed a bottle of the ECBP release #9 this week. EC18 also supposedly around, but I haven't seen it. I have both the #8 and #9, saving them for a barrel proof tasting in the near future.

It's a $40 bottle, coke away if that's your tasteThis.Just re-gift the Woodford to someone who can appreciate imo.
Please don't put coke in your woodford. Ice, we cool. Water works. No coke.

thing is, everyone makes them a little differently. I like them on the strong side, but the sweetness is what makes them dangerous.[icon] said:So good when mixed properly... got excited about Angels Envy old fashioneds one night at a rooftop bar with some buddies after a draft.... ordered some finger foods and kept going back for round after round of the OF's.... Yeah, sometimes I just want a mix to kick back. Evan or JB Black is my go to for that.Try Evan Williams Black Label.... $20 per 1.75L and some prefer it, myself included.Jack Daniels Black Label
I'm a simple man...
That said... definitely nice sometimes to splash some coke into some basic stuff![]()
Peychaud's. It's part of what is widely recognized (by some) as the first ever cocktail, born in New Orleans... the Sazarac. Should be great for what you seem to be looking for.Which bitters do you guys use? Been making some ol fashions at home. Cant seem to recreate the taste from a bar/restaurant.
Willing to give it a 2nd chance, just looking for best drink options.Just re-gift the Woodford to someone who can appreciate imo.

Yeah this is my thoughts. I used to care about crap like that, but woodford isn't rare and it's not anything too special. If a splash of coke is something that might help someone break into the world of bourbon/whiskey.... there are worse bottles to taint with cola than something as readily available as Woodford. I used to be a whiskey and coke guy and it helped me ease into drinking it on rocks and then neat. It's a $40 bottle, coke away if that's your tasteThis.Just re-gift the Woodford to someone who can appreciate imo.

Totally agree. I got into scotch/bourbon about 8 years ago because some guys at work were into it. The only way I could handle it was with some coke. They made fun of me for awhile, but eventually I "graduated" to rocks->neat and now I'm a full-fledged whiskey guy.Yeah this is my thoughts. Now, If we were talking something harder to get...different story. Again, JMHO.
EDIT: On rocks with letting air/ice mellow it out is preferred... certainly. But absent that, I wouldn't get mad at anyone for using coke as training wheels with my ever-present bottle of woodford.
Just came in here to post this. There's another version with all types of whiskey which I may get.berndog said:Here is a advent calendar I can embrace

I'm intrigued. Was mixing Old Fashioneds Sat night with Willett 2yr Rye, EHT Small Batch and Rye, and McKenna 10yr BIB. Fun tasting the flavor shifts.I usualy prefer bourbon straight
but at a restaurant I saw this and couldn't resist
Modern Old Fashioned
Knob Creek, Orange and Belgian White Ale.
it was pretty refreshing
