I did some crazy analysis of my league and found that about 10% of FF is skill. Here's how I figured it out:I took the Pythagorean Record formula to calculate the record of each team in my league. I then took the difference, positive or negative, between the actual and Pythagorean records. This gives me what you can loosely call the skill bonus of the team. I took the absolute value of the skill bonus of each team and divided that by the # of games in the league. Yeah, it sucks but it is something. It indicates one of two contradictory things to me:1) The % of games where a team exceeded or undermined their projected record through luck.2) The % of games where a team exceeded or undermined their projected record through skill.Either way, it is about 10%.

started out 0-4 but am 11-4 at this point. ended up winning the west division and entered the post season as the #2 seed.

QB S. McNair (Mid-season addition)

WR P. Burress (Round 3)

WR T. Glenn (Round 5)

WR M. Colston (Early-season addition)

RB L. Tomlinson (Keeper)

RB F. Gore (Round 4)

TE A. Crumpler (Round 7)

K J. Brown (Mid-season addition)

D San Deigo (Early-season addition)

WR B. Edwards (Round 8)

RB M. Jones-Drew (Mid-season addition)

RB R. Droughns (Round 1) thanks FBG!

RB L. Betts (Mid-season addition)

TE D. Dinkins (Post-season addition)

D Miami (Late-season addition)

D. Dinkins is on the bench for a leadership role. R. Droughns was an awful pick along with R. Moss in the 2nd. Dohhh! I owe my whole season to F. Gore and M. Colston... and that LT football robot.

6TH out of 10

1st round beat #3 score of 109 to 108 thanks to Holt 1 hand catch for 26 yards Monday night game. survived PManning, Harrison and FWP.

Semi, beat #1 team 111 to 90. Had Furrey in the line up. He was going against GB and #1 is THE GB FAN. But changed last minutes to go with my original 3 WR and put back in Coles. Also, started Barber II and MJD. Survived LT attack. Man, he is beast.

Final, now I have to go against #2 team, Brees (Please just like last week), LJ, West/Gore.

Started year 0-3-1. It will be great year if I win next week.

Interesting. In my experience "skill" in fantasy football involves two major components:1. Drafting people who have jobs, preferably in the NFL2. Setting your lineupBy my estimations about 90% of fantasy football contestants actually do these things, so I'm sure that falls into your theory somehow.

EdwardCat, I did the same analysis, and it came out to 15% for me. Hmmm, our numbers must be off!

We may have different definitions of skill. I believe many fantasy football contestants confuse luck with skill because the luck worked in their favor. Our theories still work, because of my 90% of contestants who have the necessary skill - that is, they do not draft Domanick Davis, Marshall Faulk or Iron Head Heyward, and they set their lineups weekly - between those contestants it is 100% luck.

WR-Colston, Holt, Harrison, Keyshawn, Jennings

RB- LT, Foster, DeAngelo

TE- Witten

K- Josh Brown

and

QB- Hasselbeck

WR- TJ Housh, Boldin, Steve Smith, Santana, Mark Clayton

RB- S. Jax, Gore, Chester

TE-Kellen, V. Davis

K- Scobee

DEF- SD, KC

I picked up KC this week for OAK matchup.

Here's my current playoffs lineup, 12-team league, keep 3 without cost (mine were LJ, Rudi, and Javon Walker):

QB: Steve McNair

RB: Larry Johnson

RB: Rudi Johnson

WR: Plaxico Burress

WR: Javon Walker

TE: Vernon Davis

PK: Matt Stover

DST: Bills

Bench: Trent Green, Tatum Bell, Derrick Mason, Justin Fargas, Ron Dayne, Michael Bennett.

Of those 14, only LJ, Rudi, Burress, Walker, and Tater have been on my roster since draft day. Everyone else I picked up as a free agent in the last 6 weeks. I did carry the Jaguars D all season, but dropped them when I clinched the division title and playoff bye in week 12. Ditto Randy Moss.

And I beat the LT owner twice, once during the season, once this week in the playoffs.

I lost the 1st game of the season because of Heath Miller's 85 yd bogus TD where he was actually down around the 3 yd line when the Steelers beat Miami in the opener...I then went on to win 12 straight games. I got a 1st round bye ans was up 99-61 going into tonight where I had to dodge Carson Palmer, Rudi Johnson, and Shayne Graham...I hung on and got a little help from Reggie Wayne too.

I won the lottery, I rode LT for most of the season...many weeks winning shoot outs where the opposing team should have won but I pulled 41 out of my ### with LT. I don't see how anyone that had LT on their roster could miss the playoffs. Having LJ to boot is great too but he has been very mediocre down the stretch.

Which 2 guys did the other owner keep over Tomlinson? And which two guys went before him in the draft?
Great question VG. The league is about 10-12 years old...about 3 years ago we implemented an idea where we could have the option to keep whoever wedrafted in the 6th round. We also have limited roster spots...what I posted is the min/max at each slot. We can only carry 5 RB, 6 WR, etc...so I started grabbing guys that were not necesarily going to pay off as rookies but I felt down the road had potential. I started with Vick, grabbed LJ when he was backing up Priest, I missed the playoffs the last couple of seasons after being a regular in the playofs the years before. Now I have a decided advantage over the rest of the league...it's been a really wild year.Shaun Alexander went 1.01, Peyton Manning went 1.02...QBs usually weigh heavy in this league. McNabb not LT was winning a lot of my games early in the season. And if you want to know why I haven't cut McNabb...I was simply saving him in case a QB was on the WW that I wanted to insert in the playoffs. That has not happened but you never know. Romo and Vick have been a decent combo down the stretch. The 6th round of most drafts usually see WR and QBs snatched up. This league is like that as well. Guys like Palmer, Eli, and a lot of the 10-25 preseason ranked WR are already on rosters. It makes the drafts very interesting. I have tried to secure the 1st pick in most years in the 6th round. Whoever had it if I didn't draw the slot, I usually trade down in the 4th or 5th to get it. Instead of grabbing mid range WR I usually try for a RB. LJ paid off. I did take Lee Evans this year...probably will send him back in the pool as I am sure he will be around in those mid rounds again next season.

I'm in the championship in both leagues I'm in, one a redraft PPR and one a Keep 3 regular scoring:

Traded KJ and Jennings for Harrisson and Favre midseason.

Traded DeAngelo, the Bell's and Favre for P. Manning to a team desperate for RB's near the trading deadline. He had Rivers and had to mix it up try to turn around his season.

I play in championship:

Garcia

LT, Ahman, Betts

Colston, Boldin

Crumpler

Gould

Chicago

McNaab and KJ both went down for him this season. Guy had 10 week highs in 13 regular season weeks. Crazy.

QB: Garcia (Mcnabb)

RB: Rudi, Bush, Mcallister, Lewis

WR: Holt, Coles, Driver, Glenn

TE: Gonzo

No idea how I'm in the big dance. LT owner lost this week because Mcnair was his starting QB.

Lucked out in week 11, trading Rivers and CTaylor for Brees and Cotchery... propelled me to the playoffs after a series of personnel mistakes. (Bledsoe #1 QB, overpaid for Bush, dropped Colston, bypassed Jones-Drew on WW for Gabriel... ugh, if I had a shirt I'd be pointing at it.) )

Common theme here is that everyone owns either LT, SA or LJ. I think I'm the only one without one of these guys. Wonder how many people who had picks outside the top 3 ended up in the championship game. Good poll topic, perhaps.
I had the 8th pick in our 10 team PPR league, and didn't manage to snag LT, SA or LJ, but am in the championship game this coming weekend. My complete roster is in my signature, and the roster I started this week to beat the #1 seed and advance to the title game is:QB - J. GarciaRB - S. JacksonRB - R. BushWR - D. DriverWR - R. WilliamsTE - T. HeapK - J. CarneyDT - PatriotsMy opponent in the title game does have LT, so I've got a tough game ahead. The #1 seed that I beat to advance has both LJ and SA, so they're done in our league for the year.

In a league that is for fun I getting ready for an a## kicking, everyone on your roster counts no ppr., 10pts for a rushing or rec. td. 5 pnts throwing td. 1 pt. for every ten yards rushing or rec. 1 for every 20 passing

13-1, set league (12th year) record for Wins, Most Points, Longest Win Streak, just need to cap it off this week with a Super Bowl win.

Last weeks starters in bold, this weeks kineup should be pretty much the same other then possible changes at QB (Kitna vs Bears or a fading Joey, yuck) and possibly WR (Henderson or Chambers) and Def.

QB - Kitna, Harrington, Frye

WR - Fitz, Housh, D.Henderson, Chambers, Crayton, N.Washington

started the year 0-3, finished 8-5 with the 2nd highest point total in the league (14 teams). Went in as the #5 seed and have knocked off the #4 and the #2 so far. Now I get to face the #1 seed who is Steeler heavy (BB, FWP, Miller) and also starts the Ravens defense. As long as they don't pitch the shutout again, the two are going to cancel out one another just a bit.

Don't give up, don't ever give up

Other league

QB: Vick, Shaub, Garrard
