Instead of complaining about Korny on MNF..... (1 Viewer)

So it's easy to say Kornheiser stinks...but let's think WAY outside the box and think of some of the not-so-usual suspects that might make a good MNF crew.

How about:

Shannon Sharpe

Michael Irvin

Deion Sanders

now THAT would get interesting. And loud.

Kornheiser is not that bad. Again, he is there for the casual fan, as they are always trying to bring viewers in. The moment you understand this, the moment you wont dislike him as much.

Jaws -> for the hardcore fan

Korn -> for the casual fan

For me Sunday night games are now >> than Monday night games. You can say what you like about the two old batards on MNF but for the most part they know when to shut up. For me that's the most important thing. The MNF guys (TK and RJ) seem to think it's more important for their voices to be heard than for the viewer to see the next play.

Seriously? The SD/NE game had a fumble on the field at one point, but Madden wouldn't stop the story he had started before the snap. It was a good 30 seconds after the play that Michaels could actually get a word in that a fumble occured.

I don't see why you need three guys to announce a game. Just get rid of Kornheiser.
:fishing: Two guys are more than enough. Plus Korny talks way too much..he is always trying to get a stupid story in while the ball is being snapped.

I don't mind him either. He clearly patterns his schtick after Cosell -- the cranky, literate New York Jew's vision of football. I live in NYC, and actually have a few friends with whom watching football provides a very similar experience to listening to Korny on MNF. This is not a bad thing -- it just takes some getting used to.

However, all things being equal, I'd trade Korny and Jaws for Lammey and Bloom in a New York minute.

I would like to have the option of not hearing the announcers at all, but just hear the live feed. I predict that some time in the near future, you will have that option via technology. It will be similar to the online gaming industry, with headsets that you can talk with you buddy about the game with.

In this scenario, you could choose the feed you would want to hear -- home team, away team, national broadcast.

Often I watch the games with the sound down, as to not let my thoughts about what I am seeing be controlled by the announcers. But you miss the crowd noise.22

In the end, most of us complain about announcers because we are diehards, and likely spend more time thinking, eating and drinking this stuff that they (at least the color commentators) do. The average Joe takes what he hears and accepts it as truth. We hear something and it jumps out at us that what we are hearing is garbage.

Korny always comes off as someone who hasn't done homework and bases his comments on something that happened two years ago.

Somebody put Pat Kirwan in the booth- you'd have good commentary and unintended comedy from him flirting with Jessica Simpson and the like when they come up to the booth.

Richard Jeni (RIP) had a great line about sports commentators that I'm gonna butcher.

Why do they even have sports commentators anyway? They are telling me what I am already looking at. It should be more like, "See that? Good. So did I."

Sunday > Monday but it is the lesser of evils as both are bad.

For imporoving Monday night, agree that 2 announcers is fine. But if going with a 3rd would try Michael Wilbon ... slap in the face to Korny and would make for some interesting PTI conversation.

[PK]Oh I don't know about UNintended there m-Daddy! Jessica SIMPson T-Rock!

I like Kornheiser on PTI and I liked him on his radio show. I am not a fan of him in the booth. I still think Steve Young is grossly underused by ESPN. I don't see ESPN using two qb's, but I think Young would be good.

John Riggins is a better commentator than people think. He has a gritty earthiness to which people can relate and he conveys information in a very direct, entertaining, narrative way. I don't know why he doesn't get more gigs, but he'd be far better in a booth than some of these linguistic palookas. I loathe the 'Skins, but I enjoy listening to John Riggins. Tony Kornheiser's style columns in the Post were really terrific. He writes humor well, which is difficult. The problem with Tony's presence on the football show is that he lacks essential knowledge of sports generally and football in particular. Tony is also a complete star#^$%er, which I hate. I feel compelled to say something nice. I enjoy listening to Tony on the radio and think he is an above average writer. I own two of his books, which are entertaining.

Im not a hater, i actually think he can be entertaining at times. I was playing off of all the other threads that bash the guy mercilessly. Just having some fun :lmao:

Some of these are funny, but in all seriousness I think Brian Billick has been outstanding. Maybe he would be weird as the third guy, but I think he could become a great career color analyst, and having some football knowledge combined with a coach's attitude would be entertaining. It's not like he's such a good coach teams are pounding on his door.

Tim Ryan

watched a Carolina game he did a few weeks ago and thought he did an outstanding job. Would give some good insight other than the constant QB point of view we get from Jaws.

I don't know how he'd do as an in-game announcer, but Rod Woodson is by far the best player-turned media commentator.

By a long, long ways. I'd love to see what he'd do a on broadcast.

The Blue Man Group.

1. They never talk, which should satisfy a lot of people that just want to turn the sound down anyway.

2. After a big play, they can re-interpret it via performance art.

Joel Robinson

Tom Servo

Crow T. Robot

In the year 3000, an evil scientist has trapped Joel in an NFL films library and is forced to watch old football games recorded in the 21st century until they find a game so awful that it drives him insane. The scientist will then release the tape on an unsuspecting public and thereby take over the world.

I would love to see this combo

Pat Summerall

Keith Jackson

**** Butkus

But if they really wanted ratings...

Brook Burke

Penn from Penn and Teller

Frank Caliendo (Who would do Madden about 75% of the time.)

Leslie Neilsen

LLoyd Bridges

William Shatner (Burgess Meredith is dead or he would have been the pick)

Weeman (jackass) on the field

Rosie O' Donnell.

Reason being that like the rest, she doesnt know #### about football, and since I already hate her I don't have to go into next season wondering if I'll like the new THREE MAN TEAM.

Especially since it will now be two men and one...er, one...ahhh...ummm.

well, you know. whatever it is.

Good pick, IMHO.

I enjoyed his Falcon broadcast. A little rough, but good analysis. I like Jaws, but his voice gets too excitable, like everything he says is the most important thing he EVER said. Billick was much more laid back.

Chris Spielman was pretty good in Detroit too.
