Kellen Winslow Motorcycle Accident (1 Viewer)

Cleveland radio reporting Kellen Winslow was in a motorcycle accident. Initial word is he should be OK. No link yet. Updates as they become available.
Will he ever play a game? ;) Been a pretty rought start to his career

Hey Chosen One - those helmets don't do a lot of good unless they are on your head when your head hits the ground.Actually, for his sake, I hope he landed on his head - God knows there is nothing up there to damage.

This is unbelievable. Winslow is rehabbing from a leg injury trying to get ready to play this. What is he doing on a motorcycle? Not smart if you ask me.

I used to think of these types of things happening to Cleveland sports teams/players as 'unbelievable'. I now consider everything bad thing that happens in Cleveland sports as 'believable'.

Man, the Browns can't buy a break. Anyone know how Sean Jones is doing? With the complete lack of production the Browns have gotten at the top of the draft (Jones + Winslow = zero games, Green, Warren, Brown) it is amazing they have been able to win any games.

Don't most professional contracts, particularly for high price signees have very explicit language that prohibits certain potentially dangerous actions? It would seem to me that riding a motorcycle when you're a highly paid professional athlete would be something that could warrant voiding his contract. If the Browns don't have the language in his and other players' contracts, they may want to re-think that. :wall:

Winslow was riding in a community college parking lot Sunday when he hit a curb at about 35 mph and was thrown from the motorcycle, police Lt. Ray Arcuri said.
Must have really wanted that parking space.

The article said that he was riding around in a parking lot with some other riders and hit a curb at 35. I highly doubt he was just "riding" the bike noramlly. Empty parking lots and several other riders=effing around doing tricks or racing. Smooth move soldier.

Any motorcycle accident is serious, tough luck for the Brownies.

:football: <-- Always wear your helmet

I'm a motorcycle rider have been for over 15 years.Hearing things like this is very frustrating. Now I don't know every details but my guess is he hasn't ever riden before. So ofcourse he goes out and buys the bigest bike he can find. Way to much power for him and he crashes. He is very lucky it was just a parking lot. People like him give motorcycles a bad name. I blame allot of this on the chopper hype that has been going on. All of the sudden having a bike is more of a status symbol. It's to bad cause riding motorcyle is a great hobby to have if used right.

Not only a biker but a great speach writer also. You must be a hard riding mini bke owner, let me tell ya. Lets wait and see what the info is BEFORE nailing him to the cross!

I sure he went down avoiding a unleashed poodle or maybe a mini bike rider..,

Being a little harsh on this guy aren't you? All he said is the truth. More and more people out there are getting bikes and less and less respect the danger of riding one. You tell him to wait for all the facts to come out and then you assume he rides a pocket bike? Lighted up Frances.

I said in my post I didn't know all the details. I do hold out some hope that maybe just maybe he was practicing riding in the parking lot. That is common thing done by new riders. Thanks Prime thats what I was trying to get across. Don't worry it freaks me out a little as well. :)

I understand the whole "soldier" thing, that I think we need to get over and move on from, but why does everybody hate this guy?

With rookie contracts, always. Veterans can work things into their contracts if they pass certain licsensing exams and so forth, they have the clout to do so. Jayson Williams of the Bulls almost had his leg ripped off in a bike accident and they could have voided his contract for it (if i recall correctly they worked something out). Its a pretty good bet the Browns could have totally voided Winslows contract if he badly messed himself up, possibly even getting the signing bonus back. Of course the lawyers would be all over it, but its still absolutely idiotic to risk your entire financial future over something so stupid.

 Didn't he call himself a warrior once?

He wasn't the ULTIMATE WARRIOR was he?

Sounds more and more like the "not so bright warrior".

Many NFL contracts include clauses that say the team can invalidate a contract if the player involves himself or is injured while performing certain activities, like sky divivng, motor cycle riding, etc. Interesting to see if his contract has that clause.

He already lost an opportunity to earn $11M of his contract due to the injury last year. Now he cracks his dome and god knows what else playing Evil Knievel in a Community College parking lot? This kid is not carrying on his father's legacy thus far. Pretty effin dumb with training camp just around the corner.

You mean Jay (formerly Jason) Williams.

You're correct, though, the Bulls bought-out his contract instead of voiding it. I think the buyout was for about $3 M.

from the tone of the accounts I would be seriously worried were I a Brown fan. Left in an ambulance, and injuries are not "life-threatening" - not exactly "nothing serious." I'd bet he at least has some broken bones, at worst, is now done forever in the NFL. As a Lions fan, all I can say is, thanks for the draft picks Cleveland! ;)

Earth to Lions fan: your team is as bad as my team.BTW...

Browns' officials said the tight end's injuries are minor, and he is expected to be OK.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Yeah...okay....we'll see this year.

FWIW: Some guy on some random message board (read: probably complete crap) who reported the KWII accident before it was made public, said this:

Well, obviously my source was right on, so I'll offer some more details....KWII suffered a collapsed lung and a lacerated liver, and was going into emergency surgery at Cleveland Clinic around 11:30 am.That's a lot more serious than the news releases are saying.

Now that's more believable.I won't be conviced the guy is alright until he's on the practice field and working out with the team. I hate that pud.

I think the Lions are 1 more WR away from being a playoff powerhouse. :excited:
As opposed to Cleveland, who only needs an offensive line, running back, another WR, quarterback, and a secondary. So close!!! :boxing: :P :boxing:

You know, I just noticed that this accident took place yesterday. Just an observation. The way nobody reported it till today made me think it had just happened. That's weird, makes me wonder if it is pretty serious since there's still no details.

Saw this on a Browns board. Sounds like it might only be broken ribs.

Kellen Winslow injured in motorcycle accident

Reported by Jim Donovan

POSTED: Monday, May 02, 2005 12:52:38 PM

UPDATED: Monday, May 02, 2005 3:13:36 PM

WESTLAKE -- Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Junior may have broken some ribs in a motorcycle accident Sunday night in Westlake.

Winslow was riding a motorcycle in the Tri-C Corporate College parking lot when he hit a curb at 35 m.p.h. and flew over the handlebars.

The helmet he was wearing came off.

Members of the Westlake Fire Department were the first responders. Winslow complained of chest pains when fire fighters arrived.

He was taken to Fairview Hospital and was transferred Monday to the Cleveland Clinic where the team’s medical staff will treat him.

It's believed Winslow has broken ribs.

Drugs and alcohol were not a factor.

The team says that Winslow’s injuries aren’t life-threatening. It's not known whether the Browns knew Winslow owned a motorcycle.

Winslow missed nearly all of his rookie year with the Browns after breaking his leg against Dallas in Week 2.
