When we do the countdown, I'm going to list where they ranked in 2019 and now.   Starting to notice some stunning changes in both directions.   Please do NOT respond to this post and spotlight songs.  Thanks!

Although I added 8 more songs, I am making really good progress. Reasonably certain I’ve eliminated 150 songs…well def at least 144.

I don’t feel like I’m being totally consistent, but “mostly John” or “mostly Paul” is being counted as authorship. Except when it’s not. Is there an authoritative source to help here? I’ve been looking at the Wikipedia, Beatlesbible.com and Beatlesarchive.net - a rather tedious methodology. Also fun, as I'm learning a lot along the way.

ETA: first two are in the narrative of each song; the latter lists the principle composer and main lead singer.

Looked at my old list and did some listening yesterday and I don't think mine will change much. A couple slight adjustments on order and maybe 2 of my backend songs will be replaced but I still feel good about my list.

Came out with three new entries in my top 10 (at #4, #8 and #10) and six new entries in the top 25 (ranging between #16-25).  :oldunsure:

there were a couple covers fm the Beatlemania era I thought about for my Top 60; one banger really stands out bc it was one take & the singer nailed it. but moot pt as it won’t sniff the Top 25 list just an old sentimental fav.

this is super fun. I did not do one the first around as my life was a bit upside down back then. glad @Getzlaf15 decided to do another post- Get Back.

the more evident it becomes that we need to land somewhere a little of 40 songs to really make this thing work like it should.

So there was a song in the top 25 composite last time that has not been ranked yet by the 14 processed.  Two more just came in.

 I sent in a list today. I like the Beatles a lot, but I'm NOWHERE NEAR the expert many of y'all are. So not a lot of deep cuts on my Top 25.

Also - it wasn't asked, but if I had ranked every Beatles song ever, Michelle would come in last.

First pass... Have 41 songs.  I'll have my list done tomorrow afternoon, unlike some other clowns in here.

 
20 lists have been processed.

Only 9 songs appear on 10 or more of those lists.

130 songs have been listed at least once.

32 (of 143) from 2019 have yet to be listed once in 2022.

I feel this way about a song to be named later - don’t want to spotlight, but TriviaTime I think it has the record for most times covered. Auto skip for me.

I adore The Beatles but I’m def a casual in this cohort. @krista4 talks about being late to the party. Well, I would say her original thread, watching Get Back, and this exercise have taken me deeper and deeper into the black hole. I am loving the process, discovering something that’s always been there but I neglected.

I have 3 older siblings, but all of us were under 10 when Beatlemania peaked. Yellow Submarine was an excuse for us to go to the movies unaccompanied for the first time (Big sis would have been 11…odd detail, but I distinctly remember having spaghetti & meatballs for dinner before we went.)

I had a huge stack of ill-cared for 45s in the 60s which were played on a plastic player with a built-in speaker. By the time I started album buying, 8-tracks were in vogue - American Pie and Led Zeppelin IV were two early purchases.

A few years later, around the time I transitioned from the family console stereo to a stereo rack with separate components, I started buying LPs. The Red Album 1962-66 and The Blue Album 1967-70 were among the first albums I bought. The details I remember are always so random - those double albums cost $9.98, which was a pretty big jump from the normal $5.98 (& double LPs were $7.98.) So I guess you could say George Martin predetermined what songs would become most familiar to me. I have never purchased the original albums in any format.

Anyway, I never knew The White Album Super Deluxe (103 tracks) existed until I listened to it on Christmas Day evening. I didn’t listen to the 13 original UK albums until 3 years ago. I have repeated listening to all of them (several times each) in just the last few months. Such a delight!

My very chalky list probably reflects how I was informed back in 1973. Those 54 tracks still have a special place in my memory.

I recently learned The Beatles had 20 number one songs. Although I didn’t take charts into account in compiling my list, I checked this morning. 19 of the 20 were in my Top 60 (altogether I considered 91 songs for inclusion.) 9 of my 25 songs were chart toppers. I don’t think I have a single song which could be considered a deep cut - though there are several non-hits which have given me immense pleasure in recent weeks. The catalog is wellspring - new favorites keep bubbling up.

tl;dr - I’m not a very complicated man.

Good luck. My initial list of 46 grew to 91 before I started going in the other direction.

It is so hard to exclude anything. If I made a list every week until YE I’m sure I would end up with 50 discrete rankings.

 
It is terribly difficult to complete this list.

On a sidenote, the 4K version of A Hard Day's Night was released today. I pre-ordered it in October and had completely forgotten about it. That was a nice surprise in the mailbox.
