MAD's ROUND 2!! # 1's have been posted!! (2 Viewers)

Gave a listen to El-P's solo endeavors again last night. This is going to be a harder list to winnow down than I thought. i really enjoy this stuff. It still likely won't be the FFA's cup of tea. Oft-staccato electronica meets rap. To most, that's an oof. Apologies in advance.

Similar. I listened to three of Queens of the Stone Age's albums at work this morning and it made me think this might get complicated

Been debating between a couple of choices (somewhere between 2 and 7 >.>). Overthinking which direction to go. Time for me to pick a lane.

Roger Clyne

Primarily his work with the Peacemakers, though I'll definitely want a few songs from The Refreshments. The US band, that is. The Swedish band with that name remains unpicked.

Drive-By Truckers this round for me. I’m a little nervous about the issues I’m sure some will have with one of the band’s three lead vocalists and heck some may also have issues with the more country leanings of one of the other songwriters/singers - but will discuss more on that when I do my initial band introduction.
Those that had trouble getting past the vocal with Modest Mouse are probably going to really have issues with my choice this round. David Berman's voice in the Silver Jews and Purple Mountains wouldn't be considered standardly good, but I love it and it fits his lyrics perfectly.
I’m not sure if it was you but some one took a Purple Mountains song in a past draft that I fell in love with and couldn’t stop listening to despite some amazingly depressing lyrics. I did dive a little deeper after that and enjoyed but really looking forward to your list to get back into him.
I had the same experience very recently. Knew of Purple Mountains as I'd like a song or two by them, but never pulled up the album. I've listened to it many times now (assume we are talking about the same song) and it's kind of haunting given the context of his death.

All of the constant avatar changes must be confusing for people who never set foot in these threads. Mine is very... pink.
If only we could get JML to change his. It still gives me nightmares.
Says the guy with an eyeball for a head as his avatar lol.
And no, i wont do avatar changes unless i can find a prettier picture
Your avatar was an Internet acheivement back in the day.

I had Against Me!/Laura Jane Grace, Jason Isbell (solo instead of DBT), and John Prine on my short list...so now I'm down to a comedy band, an Irishman, or a favorite from my college years.

I think I will go with an underrated group from the late 80s and 90s who made a surprise comeback in 2015.

Faith No More
Love it. I was listening to some FNM as a possibility. Late 90s albums are underrated. Great choice.

It feels like more of us are apologizing in advance this time around.

Hey, we made it through Rush- we are all fully battle-tested. ;)

Ok, I did the PM thing but I guess this makes it official. Let's keep it Midwest and go with a fellow Wayne County native. Michigan's own Sufjan Stevens.

Maybe the most best songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist of the 2000s.
Another I know zip about, but am looking forward to exploring.
A little folk, a little baroque pop, a little classical, a little electronic, a little avant garde, a little Phillip Glass, very religious, OC soundtrack circa 2005, banjo, story teller. He covers a lot so I appreciate you giving it a chance.

Very eccentric, talented and ambitious.

He set out to write an album about all 50 states. He has released two (MI and IL) and they’re both great albums.

I love all his formal albums. This will be an epic playlist.

If this is also playlist order, there will some amazing transitions.

i will roll with Suzy & the Band Cheez

:coffee:
Awesome. Just had their greatest hits album on yesterday.
Are you a snob for their late 80s/90s stuff?

Sioux were always so ahead of every trend, she were a table setter ... i really hate to bring up *Madonna*, but she stole so much from Sioux's look/style and bastardized it to the lameness of suburban mall culture ... not to mention mining a ton of Sioux's musical explorations in the late 80s/into the 90s, which the Madge watered down and tossed out as "edgy"

so, no ... i am not averse to Sioux's later forays - she are the most underrated & underappreciated musical female presence over the past 45 years - it's a sin she's so marginalized.
