MAD's ROUND 2!! # 1's have been posted!! (2 Viewers)

I probably should get THESE to go with the shirts though.

Damn. They're out of small. Oh well, KP. Maybe they'll restock.

eta* That is a really funny pair of shorts. And no surprise that they sold out of small. Had a girl in the family that loved booty shorts and the smaller, the better.
Very fitting with them. As I found digging through videos, they are an odd bunch of dudes that actually remind me of me minus the tattoos. I also think it's funny after listening to their music that so many of their shirts are all Satanic and demonic and **** - such as THIS one. Nothing that ties into the music really so it's probably mostly because it's metal and badass.

After reading a long interview/profile about them, I can see why regarding the demons. I'll leave it at that so that people can explore them without any previous opining from me.

I did get THIS shirt in the mail today, so I am rocking that. My daughter said it was scary and just stared at it though. I also have 3 more on the way as I felt I needed to up the Mastodon:Opeth metal t-shirt ratio. If I were less self-conscious I would have a wider variety of bands. Some can get a bit gnarly.

If I see you on the street, I'm crossing to the other side.
I think back in the day it was sort of the point with some of the shirts I chose. I got away from them for quite a while, but I'm now back to the normal KP uniform - jeans, metal shirt, Mariners cap.
Me the other night at that show—-jeans, Pavement shirt, Mariners cap. Pretty damn close 🤣

Nothing screams forty to fifty-five years-old like jeans, rock shirt, baseball cap.

I swear it's a running Gen Z joke about us.
Ironically, I saw a hundred + Gen Z’ers dressed similarly at the same show wearing Pixies shirts (no Mariners caps though—****ing Dodgers, Yankees and Angels).

Granted, this was in Salt Lake City.

How many Nirvana shirts did you catch?

And I'm guilty as the next for rock t-shirts, jeans, and that general look (I've sort of ditched the caps now that I get really nice haircuts).
Several Nirvana shirts.

I see them on many teens during office visits. I always casually ask them about their fandom and it usually morphs into other band discussions.

One of my exam rooms is decorated as my “rock n roll” room. I have a shadow box on the wall in which I display a vinyl “album cover of the month”. Often I get comments about the record and when I do it’s a lot of fun. Some of the parents and older kids really get into it. It gets me behind schedule but it’s well worth it.

Gotta say that the reason I asked is because Niravna, in my admittedly limited observation and experience with younger folk, is almost as much a brand or an idea as they are a rock band.

To wit, my brother's former stepdaughter had a Bad Brains shirt on once. She listens to Cardi B and Nicki Minaj and a host of R&B/modern rap stars and is a general poptimist (Nicki and Cardi being now passé but that's really the direction she was in when I knew her), and really had no idea what Bad Brains was or who they were. She just knew the iconic Capitol building shirt with the lightning and the reggae colors. That was a funny thing to explain to her, which her mother already had. She got it from the both of us.

So this round features two Top 5 artists for me: Petty and Bowie.

There’s an outside shot at a 3rd (especially if @shuke does a second round) - but the other two already have dedicated countdown threads (one by me).

I enjoy wearing band shirts to shows---usually sparks a few fun conversations over the night that likely would not occur otherwise.

I do, too. That's part of the fun of being at a gig and interacting with strangers that have now become this sort of unspoken community.
I wore a Rolling Stones shirt to the Trey Anastasio Band show - and some young hot blonde girl came up and said she also loved the Stones and showed me her socks (not prison lingo) with the Stones Tongue on them.

It was worth it.

Two thumbs up for that!

That's when I think of something like that and decide to express it verbally, only I remember Sacha Baron Cohen in Borat, so I say it Borat style. It's a joke the girl doesn't get (or my impersonation is bad) and she slowly strides away in the dream...

Wait, you didn't counter with "Speaking of socks, I'm also a Chili Peppers fan..... " ?

I’ve seen squillions of Millennials and Zoomers wearing Nirvana shirts. Almost none wearing shirts of any other Gen X band.

Same here. You might have heard me tell the story about being in a discount clothing store and seeing Nirvana booty shorts like the Mastodon ones KP was pushing in the other thread. It had the crooked smile and everything on the front and the logo on the back.

Yeah it’s kind of like a symbol now - reminds me of the 80s Doors revival when Rolling Stone Magazine had a cover story with Jim Morrison titled “He’s Hot. He’s Sexy. He’s Dead.” Because some walking around in Morrison shirts had no idea.

Pretty much, and if I had to guess, I think there are just a few standard stock 90s shirts they sell at places like Target that would beef up the % of Nirvana shirts. I think every one of those types of racks has to include Nirvana, GNR, one Metallica (I usually see And Justice shirts), and stuff like Floyd. The other is see once in a while is the PJ stick man shirt, but that is still probably 1 for every 40 Nirvana shirts.

I texted my friends one night about this, but I went to Target one Sunday morning to buy light bulbs. When I was there I saw this black Led Zeppelin T-Shirt with a white out line of the Angel (or is it Icarus?) and some text about a 70s concert in Amsterdam (?) - I swear to God walking the boardwalk that night, I saw six different people (of all ages and races) wearing that shirt. I was cracking up. They also sell that Nirvana shirt with the smiley face at Target now and then.

Sublime and Blink 182 are the next most common I see.

I was on call last weekend and rounding in the newborn nursery. I walked into a room to meet the parents of a healthy newborn I’d just evaluated.

The 25-ish year old father was wearing a Kiln T-shirt.

Kiln is an electronic band from the aughts. I’m a big fan. I’ve never encountered anyone else that has ever even heard of Kiln.

So after discussing their healthy baby and answering their questions, I acknowledged the Kiln shirt. We then had a 10 minute discussion about the band and the genre.

Band shirts are fantastic ice-breakers.

Okay, barring the unexpected, I should be able to PM the Google Sheet info to all during the game Monday night.
I asked myself "what game?" :bag:

Odd to think about how much I watched NFL and how many leagues I had. Couldn't name you a player on the Patriots with any confidence now.

BOOOOOOOOO! Go Jets X 20000000000000000!

Also, all football talk belongs in the Summerpalooza thread, even if you're not playing. That's an invite! (Not that you all need one, but hey, you never know what'll tip the scales in favor...)
