"Mass Casualty Event" in Las Vegas (1 Viewer)

I heard earlier that the shooter may have video recorded the attack and that he had a camera in the hallway to see if anyone was coming.

I've been arguing with conspiracy whackos on /r/Conspiracy for over an hour. I should really just back away, but it is so hard. I just don't get these people. I enjoy conspiracy theories myself, but how do you leap past the loads of obvious flaws to some of the things they believe?

I'm currently trying to explain to someone that, no, Mandalay Bay does not have floor to ceiling windows on the 10th floor that fully open and close with no balcony, and that it is unlikely that someone removed/replaced/fixed a window pane in the middle of the night with thousands of police, first responders, civilians, reporters, and cameras nearby.  :loco:

They're also pretty focused on the fact that a security guard was shot in the leg on the 32nd floor and that this implies there were more shooters who got away. I'll admit that this is the weirdest part of the event so far, but the "official" story is that the guard was shot through the door of the suite and I just saw a picture on The Daily Mail that shows like 20+ exit bullet holes in one of the suite doors, so I'm going to say that story checks out for me.
I think it's natural human curiosity to piece together what and why it happened.

Although, if one of these attacks was done solely so some person could profit that really wouldn't surprise me.

this might be the one time i can recall that a 64 yr old man went nuts and killed a bunch of people.  usually its younger men.   I find this entire thing bizarre.

The biggest mistake these conspiracy people make is believing every single event is a conspiracy.  Would think they would pick and choose so they wouldn't come across as complete nuts jobs.

My brother in law's ex-girlfriend was there with some friends. One was an attorney from San Diego. Killed. Had just posted pictures in Facebook earlier that day all of them together.

Wow, this is one sick MF.

Damn. My condolences. Stories like this are not only sad- but also sickening. I'm still in shock that anybody could have such a complete disregard for human life.

They all take the coward's way out... Mainly because they're cowards that need soft easy targets.

I'd love to understand the psychology behind James Holmes, being he is one of the only ones that didn't take his own life. He's obviously still a coward, but maybe there is something there that can be used to help the mental health aspect in the future in terms of prevention... IDK.

I'm skeptical of the millionaire claim. I almost think broke degenerate gambler scumbag is more likely. I'd bet that $100k he wired his girlfriend was loaned money. Guy is a world class POS.

How is it that he was given that exact room overlooking the concert venue? Did he request it well before check in? Who set him up in it?

I agree something is up here, from my experience the casino always wins and the amounts he gambled can go quick. Also the slip on the floor and sue for $100k trick doesn't seem like that of a multi millionaire.

he was at the highest level of comped gambler in Vegas.    He could get any room he wanted.

Then why the mystery about the guy - should be pretty well know to a casino host. Isn't that the casino hosts job to know all about you and your family, likes desires, etc to make your stay work. And for 4 days no check in by a casino host? Reports I've seen show no on knew about him or any previous stays at Mandalay.

I know we always want the story to end and be tied up with a nice neat bow. The guy was in debt, he had a history of mental problems, he was prepper that thought the day had come, he was married w/children, whatever but this one seems really strange right now.

Patience for the full story to come out is tough but I agree there is more to this than what we are seeing right now. The truth will come out sooner or later.

or he asked for a room on a high floor with a view of the show.

I find this kind of thinking- wanting there to be a conspiracy- maddening.

I, too, wondered if he selected that room specifically, or just a corner room on a floor near that one, for what he deemed to be an optimal vantage point for his plan.

If you're a big player at Caesars, and you call up an MGM property like Mandalay, they are going to scramble to kiss your ### in exact accordance with your wishes.
And they should have interactions with him on the gaming floor - you'd think a host would set him up. Tip off the dealers/pit and make sure wait service is set up and tell everyone to kiss your butt. All that and more - help with his luggage, cleaning his room, food - Host to stop by his room. Bring champagne or hookers and blow or all 3. So he gets a major comp and never shows on the floor- and no stories of anyone following up with him. Maybe those stories are coming.

Where are you getting this from?

Man has a foreign girlfriend and is wiring her money out of the country  before the act?  Yeah there’s something to that.

No, if you don't need your host you don't interact.  Most times I do is by phone, email or text.

Human beings are flawed, they do messed up things.  This will always be true.  No matter how civilized a society is, there will be people that lose it.  You can have a world will everyone has everything but people will still will want to harm people.  There is no other possible outcome at this point.

his gf was/is a high roller hostess?  in the philippines now, aren't they riddled with ISIL?

the gf knows the story here, when she gets back in the states we'll know it all too.

maybe lost a pile of money at the mandalay and this is his twisted way of screwing the hotel?

But they do know what you are up to - and if you aren't on the casino floor the host would know. Especially if he was a "new" customer. I've only heard he used his girlfriends players card or had it. So perhaps they just didn't care because of her play. He was a guy who had no problem telling others he was a "gambler" and enjoyed showing his big wins. I would like to hear more about his 4 day weekend stay during a football weekend and big country concert that gets comped. And how he was rolling in the casino to be undetected.

What is the point of this line? Are you really going to give some credence to a "maybe the baby boomer white guy was an ISIS terrorist" angle?

I would think it's more IF than WHEN.

ABC reporter: “Authorities say multiple hotel employees were in the room prior to the shooting”.

ABC anchor: “and yet somehow no one noticed anything”.

Unless he asked for them to leave him alone. My understanding is that the high rollers aren't expected to play 24/7. He probably mixed in gambling with hauling his guns up to his room. With the size of his room, he could easily have hidden that many guns. Under couch cushions, between mattresses, in closets, or even in suitcases or golf bags.

And for people asking how someone could carry guns into a hotel without being noticed, I think they still have the SHOT show in Vegas every year. I'm sure there are guns moving through hotels/casinos during that time.

Easily. Yet this choad of an anchor feels the need to insinuate that the people that were in the room should shoulder blame for allowing this to happen.
I'm glad you posted this because I find it completely mind boggling that some of the media is actually trying to blame the Mandalay Bay or their housekeeping for not being psychic enough to know what is in a guests luggage.   As a Vegas veteran--I can tell you that it is absolutely common to find people bring an entire bell mans cart worth of luggage and golf bags to Vegas--even if they are only staying for a few days.  It is not the job of bell men or housekeeping to go through a guests bags to see what is inside of them.   Just as 9-11 changed the security rules/laws for airline travel--I wouldn't be surprised if this event sparks security protocols to be changed for hotels in densely populated areas (strip hotels, hotels in time square..etc).  Maybe the hotels will now have x-ray machines or something to that effect in the future--but I find it intellectually insulting that people are trying to perpetuate that the Mandalay Bay should have somehow forecasted this.

Also--just commenting on vip host/player relationships.  Generally speaking--players that gamble lots get comps at hotels because of points on their players cards.  They generally need to get a certain number of points per year in order to maintain their status.   If a player has tons of points and is eligible for a free suite at a complimentary rate--this doesn't mean that he is "forced" to play during that particular stay.  A VIP host might call or text that player about events (slot tournaments, blackjack tournaments, shows) during their stay--but thats about it.

Does Trump keep on harping on how fast the police responded because he wants us to point out that they weren't?  Therefore it's him and the police vs "liberals."  Like it was him and the anthem vs "liberals."

The wiring of funds and the girlfriend in the Philippines is pretty concerning, how long until you think they release the note that was on the table? Can we force the girlfriend to come back or is she safe if she never wants to return?

Apparently the girlfriend is again a "person of interest." Not a lot of details as to why, though. Presumably not cooperating enough?

I haven't read through the thread, cause it is too long. I'm just going to express my opinion as a gun owner. I own a handgun. I believe in the right to own one. I believe in background checks. Extensive ones. I do not believe in the right to own assault rifles. There is just too much carnage that can be done with one. If someone breaks into your house, unless it is an army, you shouldn't need an assault rifle. If you are a hunter, you shouldn't need an assault rifle. So many of these mass shootings have happened with assault rifles, and so many gang banging attacks have been done with assault rifles. I am aware that if someone wants to kill people they will find a way, but do we have to make it so easy to massacre so many so fast? There will be more mass shootings in the future, but can't we at least put a dent in the number of casualties by banning assault rifles?  We have to make a change to something, and we can make a change to that. If you want to handle and shoot an assault rifle, the military is always accepting applications.
It's possible someone might ask you to define an assault rifle down to the last inch.
