Three years later, Rundgren covered Elvis Costello's "Two Little Hitlers."Partridge described the process as "two Hitlers in the same bunker."
Bill Nelson is best known for Flaming Desire-
That is one of my favorite things about these albums. SO many samples to try to figure out. I am terrible with lyrics, but I am good at recognizing songs I've heard from just short samples, so this is right up my alley. It is basically like the ending game from MTV's Remote Control when you have a wall of videos and samples to try to figure out.Even if I hate a song I usually listen to all of it unless it's also super long.Great catch - I'm surprised you made it to the end of the song. Also, sampled in the Girl Talk track Set It Off."Come On Eileen" is a song by the English group Dexys Midnight Runners (credited to Dexys Midnight Runners and the Emerald Express), released in the United Kingdom in June 1982 as a single from their second studio album Too-Rye-Ay. It reached number one in the United States and was their second number one hit in the UK, following 1980's "Geno". The song was produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley and was initially claimed to be written by Kevin Rowland, Jim Paterson and Billy Adams, although Rowland later stated that the essence of the tune should be attributed to Kevin Archer.
Am I the only one who expected Girl Talk to be actual girls?![]()
That part was an accident. Mostly just going with song title and Radiohead sample for the track.
Recognized the Aerosmith sample and another I haven't figured out yet
yeah- was going to post his outfit, but honestly couldn't think of a tune- so figured I'd stay with Flaming Desire.Bill Nelson is best known for Flaming Desire-
That and Be-Bop Deluxe
lol... oh damn- I nickelbacked only because I didn't think you'd be picking them... sorry! solid tune though!Probably the "biggest" international artist in my list and I probably wouldn't have included it as I tried to exclude the more well known artists, but think it's such a great rock song and perfect to start a playlist. I know Nickelback is, to say the least, a polarizing band but I don't care what you say this song rocks!
Also, my list is in no particular order, just tried to spread out the song styles throughout.
Knowing I had this song coming first I chuckled at the recent Nickelback comments by @El Floppo . I said to myself "hang tight, they're coming"

I thought the same thing!Anthrax follows Merle Haggard's train song, which might seem weird, except that the opening of "Time" sounds like ... a train on a track.
These Eyes was the other sample that I knew so thanks, was driving me crazy. That is one of my favorite things about these albums. SO many samples to try to figure out. IF you or anybody else cares or are interested enough, HERE is a link to all the samples that he used on the Feed the Animals album. I liked to listen a few times and then look. I think I had about 12-15 MAD artists I noticed from the album and still missed a few.
Why was this on In the City? Was there an early Who connection? As a matter of fact, there was! The Who recorded a cover for the rare 1966 EP Ready Steady Who (it was later released on the deluxe edition of A Quick One). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNldFQGtfoY I have The Jam's version ranked down here not because of the performance, which is blistering, but because it sticks out like a sore thumb on In the City and messes up its flow. This would have worked better as a B-side, as many of their covers were.
First thing that I thought of. Amazing how my first exposure to classical music was through cartoons.
Kill the wabbit! Kill the wabbit! Kill the WAB-bit!
(I can't be the only one for whom this pops into mind)
Same - lived in L.A. from 1982-1986 and basically listened only to KLOS, KMET and KROQ, Could do without Richard Blade, but KROQ was always top notch.Come on Eileen... initially claimed to be written by Kevin Rowland, Jim Paterson and Billy Adams, although Rowland later stated that the essence of the tune should be attributed to Kevin Archer.
80s New Wave Kroq... my wheelhouse.
Just like all of usFirst thing that I thought of. Amazing how my first exposure to classical music was through cartoons.

Kind of fun to try to guess the theme too, as still getting used to the everything and the order. Possum Kingdom came on and I was thinking, oh, that must be for the animal kingdom theme, and then looked at the post and realized for Texas songs.About 3/4 of the way through - this might be the most fun "opening" playlist of all the MAD threads.

Songs that have nine or more words in the titleSongs that reference a location in another country (Spain)Anonymous Mystery Theme Dictator - ???

Same, would never have connected it with the Texas theme without looking.Kind of fun to try to guess the theme too, as still getting used to the everything and the order. I forget are these your "best" 31 albums of 1984 or are you working off a list of the 31 best albums from somewhere?Ilov80s - One song from each of the 31 best albums of 1984
Girl Gone Bad- Van Halen
Same here. I really appreciate the post with songs and theme in one spot. I keep that open while listening so I can check if I was close or not.Kind of fun to try to guess the theme too, as still getting used to the everything and the order. Way too many songs to comment on individually. So lets do a select few
Did I pick Onyeabor for fixing Tims attempt at a 1977 list or the MAD World draft or both?
A Scottish woman pretending to be Japanese woman in full dress and everything.
Early Furs had a lot of saxophone. Which was odd in an alternative new wave band.
I will only say this once or 17 times, this is better than The Metro?
Produced by Todd Rundgren! With Todd on sax!
Wheres the Umlauts here?
Both. I suggested Heaven and Hell to you for one of the next 100 list to fix Tim’s list, and you included that one there. And then you included another Onyeabor song in your MAD world list.Did I pick Onyeabor for fixing Tims attempt at a 1977 list or the MAD World draft or both?

Exact song I’m listening to as I checked the thread. Same thought. Do you wanna die?Kind of fun to try to guess the theme too, as still getting used to the everything and the order. If the "Toggle BB Code" feature is disabled you won't have any toolbar functions. (It's the [ ] over beside the save and Preview on the function bar) Not sure how that affects Edit capability tho so maybe your situation is different.Sorry. I can't post lnks or use any of the functions in the top bar. This is on YouTube. I can see it. I just can't link it, or use Bold, or Italics, or anything. I can't even edit.

These are disparate takes but they both make sense. This is a tough playlist to listen to - there's some real harsh breaks and the music styles are all over the place. The "themes" are likely way better served with individual playlists.
There are some great songs in there - but it's just a bit jarring at times.

Among my favorites from the sweet sequence I mentioned earlier.- The Nickelback song was not nearly as bad as I'd been led to believe they would be.
- "Not Nineteen Forever," "Magenta Mountain" and especially "Auto Rock" (breathtaking!) rounded out my new-to-me favorites.
I will be explaining this for every selection, although it's obvious for some. For some of these songs, it's very obscure.Wheres the Umlauts here?
The Thin Lizzy was the one I was disappointed I didn't catch. I caught some on a later song from the album, but not this one.For those too lazy to click the link and migrate to the sample section,IF you or anybody else cares or are interested enough, HERE is a link to all the samples that he used on the Feed the Animals album. Nope, it's my own list. So there are a couple albums that people would probably expect to see that won't make it. Not that they are bad albums, they just aren't my jam or they just missed the cut. I have ordered them by calendar release, not any kind of ranking.I forget are these your "best" 31 albums of 1984 or are you working off a list of the 31 best albums from somewhere?Ilov80s - One song from each of the 31 best albums of 1984
