Mike McCarthy will be a flop as Packers HC (1 Viewer)

This is yet another classic case of jumping to conclusions based on first impressions. Another example is everyone assuming Obama had the democratic nomination wrapped up after Iowa.
Don't get me started. Obama still has it wrapped up. Hillary was expected to at least finish 2nd if not win NH. Now we'll see what happens in the other states. Obama will crush her me thinks.
Way to :lmao: Back on topic, there were many questions surrounding the hiring, but obviously it has turned out quite well. Which seems to be the case with a lot of what Ted Thompson has done. There were many Packer fans here and elsewhere that lambasted each and every move Thompson did (or didn't do), but he has stuck to his plan and it has worked out marvelously. And because of his approach, mainly add through the draft, they aren't hamstrung by bad contracts. We'll see if that continues, but obviously the future (and present) looks bright in Green Bay.
Yeah totally my bad. MUCH rather talk about the Pack than politics. The future looks extremely bright for us Pack fans. Gotta enjoy it while it lasts.

Actually it wasn't cancelled, but it was over quick."They're still meeting. What are they doing? They're talking. I don't want to keep you guys here all night. We've postponed the meeting with the team until tomorrow morning. We'll try to reschedule with you guys after that. That's all."

He looks like he wants to vomit.
McCarthy's press conference was canceled and rescheduled for tomorrow.Early reports are that Favre is now threatening to protest McCarthy's training camp unless the Packers trade three first round picks and Ted Thompson for Randy Moss and allow Favre to call all his own plays during games.

Who said this?
random Packer PR guy came to the podium about 20 minutes after the scheduled start and made a very short statement

Who said this?
Some guy with dark hair at the podium. He said all that, then walked to his left (the viewers right) towards a door, reporters stood up and yelled questions, his responses were inaudible due to being away from the microphone. Then everyone laughed real loud and started moving chairs around and it was over.Maybe I was the only one in the US who caught it? I don't know what Ted Thompson looks like, so I don't know if it was him or not.

it was Jeff Blumb - one of the pr guys

We won't have to wait until tomorrow morning to get Favre's twisted version of the meeting as it will be leaked to someone at ESPN within the hour no doubt.

Fleischer and McCarthy are doing shots with Deanna while Favre arm wrestles Thompson for the right to play all Packer home games in his back yard in Hattiesburg.

I've never understood why so many ungrateful GB fans have insisted on ripping mccarthy and thompson.
Because some fans do not like them? Because they are in the Packer organization...are all Packer fans supposed to bow to them? Sorry...does not work that way. Thank you Ted Thompson for helping to bring a SB to Green Bay...but you are still a d'bag.

I don't really care who you bow to --- how about just quit crying, appreciate what you've got in an organization that's probably top 5 in how it's run and coached, and acknowledge the fact that thompson knows more about what he's doing right now than you would if we gave you another hundred years to figure it out?

Maybe that's asking too much.

 Except for the bringing a SB to GB part.

Some people complain if they have nothing to complain about. Fact is most Packer fans are appreciative to what Thompson and McCarthy have done for the Packer organzation.

Maybe it's because the Pack didn't win the division this year...

I don't think John was meaning anything bad...I think he was joking as to why someone else would call TT a d'bag.

Some that is leftover from years past when fans were choosing sides between Thompson/McCarthy and Favre.

What I never can understand, is why fans are loyal to Favre, don't we pull for the helmets? Rodgers is a Packer who won you as many Super Bowls as Favre, and has given less drama, I don't get it. McCarthy is a Packers coach who won your city a title, if you have any issues, your not a true Packers fan. IMHO.Signed an unbias person.

Thing is...Packer fans are wired a bit different. Not that there are not fans of other teams that are similar...but the use of we seems more acceptable given its publicly owned. We feel an attachment to this team...and that attachment runs deep even to the players. Especially one who did what Favre did for his career in GB.So when it ended in the messy way it did...it divided things. There were several camps. Those that hated Favre for doing it and still do.Those that did not like how either side handled it but chose to support the team and let Favre go on his way. Those that hated TT for doing it and chose to follow Favre. Now, those camps are not totally all inclusive of Packer fans...but IMO a majority would fit into those 3.Add in a GM who, other than 2007, had not had a great record...he tore apart the Oline (due to age/cap) and had struggled to rebuild it.He is not a big player in free agency. He is not a big talker and appears cold to fans at times.

On McCarthy...he is the coach that backed Rodgers and told Favre they had moved on.

He has his way of going about things that people don't like.

And he has struggled at times and deserved criticism. I pretty much had given up on him after the Detroit game (not the team, but McCarthy). But then the playoffs started and wow did he have this team ready.

His "we are nobody's underdogs" speech should go down in history.

Every team has those types. They blabber the loudest. The NY Giants have plenty of them that want to trade Eli Manning and fire Coughlin. They have no plan but they want those two to go. They also have no clue.

So funny.

McCarthy Won’t Gloat Over Favre Decision

Posted by Mike Vandermause February 10th, 2011, 6:33 pm

Packers coach Mike McCarthy took to the national radio airwaves Thursday on The Jim Rome Show. Not surprisingly, in light of the Packers’ Super Bowl championship, the topic of Brett Favre came up.

Rome asked McCarthy why no one in the Packers organization, including himself, GM Ted Thompson or QB Aaron Rodgers, have told the one-time naysayers “I told you so” or something to that effect, especially after all the grief the organization endured after trading Favre in 2008.

“It’s not part of our fiber,” said McCarthy. “We have to make tough decisions every single year as an organization. We just stayed true to the code of making the decisions we feel are in the best interest of the Green Bay Packers. With that being said there’s really nothing else to say.”

Rome followed up by asking McCarthy if he felt vindicated in any way by the decision to cut Favre loose in favor of Rodgers.

“No, I don’t view it that way,” said McCarthy. “If you feel people need to apologize, that’s fine. They can all send in their apologies to 1265 Lombardi Aveneue, Green Bay Wisconsin. We’d be fine with that.”

McCarthy laughed as he made that statement.

The head coach took the opportunity to praise Packers fans that packed Lambeau Field to honor the champions.

“That’s something I will never forget and no one in our organization will ever forget,” said McCarthy. “To have 60,000 of your fans enjoying the moment Tuesday was awesome. That’s something that will always be special.”

Rome asked McCarthy what it means for the Packers to bring home the Lombardi Trophy to Green Bay.

“It’s such a special place, for a small town to have a professional franchise and to be owned by the public is so unique, and everybody takes such pride in our success as a football team,” said McCarthy.

“The organization gives us all the resources we need to be successful so it’s great to deliver the championship back home. It’s very very personal with everybody involved in Green Bay, and really clear across the country and further than that as far as the support we have. But this town is very much interwined with the organization. I just can’t tell you how exciting it is, everybody is thrilled to death. It’s a very passionate time for us in Green Bay.”

Very poor clock management is one reason.

Most aren't making things up-there are genuine concerns that keep occurring. Fans in Green Bay remember what happened after the SB win and want to prevent it from happening again.

Sherman as GM was a disaster after Wolf retired and it took this long to re-stock the team after he ran it down.

In the interview it seems like Rodgers is losing respect for McCarthy already. I was VERY impressed with Rodgers coming out and calling out some of the teammates who don't give it their all when Favre isn't practicing. He said the veterans take those days as a day off, and don't give it 100%.
Interesting stuff from 5 years ago about Rodgers.
