Mike Tyson Vs Jake Paul? (3 Viewers)

The rules sound even worse than we expected

16oz gloves
2 minute rounds
no judges will score fight (winner can only come by knock out, which is unlikely fighting with pillows for gloves)
both fighters must pass EKG and EEG tests (this is mostly to make sure Tyson is fit)

So it is pretty much a pure exhibition like the Roy Jones Jr Tyson fight was.
So no drug testing? Let them juice!

Tyson smoked before the Roy Jones fight, which mellowed him. They may be going that angle again so nobody dies.

No mention of drug testing?

Its an "exhibition"

Former world champion Mike Tyson says his boxing match against YouTuber Jake Paul on 20 July will be an exhibition bout and not an official fight.
Tyson, whose professional career ended in 2005, will turn 58 three weeks before facing Paul in Texas.
Paul, 27, beat Ryan Bourland in his 10th professional fight last month.

"This is called an exhibition, but if you look up 'exhibition' you will not see any of the rules will be fighting under. This is a fight," Tyson said.

The contest - which will not count to their professional records if it is an exhibition - will broadcast live on streaming platform Netflix.

It will take place at Arlington's AT&T Stadium, home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, which has a seating capacity of 80,000.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), the body that approve boxing events in the state, told BBC Sport that while a request to hold an event on the day by the promoter had been received; no proposed fights or further details were given.

"Under TDLR rules, in an exhibition fight the combatants wear bigger gloves (16oz), have two-minute rounds and fight in fewer rounds than a sanctioned professional bout," the TDLR said.

"In an exhibition, there is a referee but no judges and no winner is declared."

well, I hope they both get participation trophies.

Well no professional sanctioning body would approve a fight at this age disparity. Also probably means no drug testing.

Exactly. They were never going to get this sanctioned. They threw that around just to increase interest. Get people talking like it was going to be a real fight and not the joke it was clearly going to be.

Tearing Paul to pieces and then recreating the Ali-over-Liston shot has to be worth giving back his share of the money, right?

I am a huge Tyson fan. And I love how he transformed himself these last few years.

And I want him to destroy this guy.

But Tyson lost his last 2 real fights and didn’t look great against Roy Jones either. Unfortunately.

$20 on Tyson +170
🔒
Just checked my app and I can bet on it now. Threw down on Tyson +150. Might come back for more.

Once the props are available, I will likely be throwing down a couple dollars for a knockout in a specific round.
Yea same. Anything can obviously happen but I’ll be very very surprised if Tyson isn’t standing over this guy at the end. He just doesn’t have the reps.

Experienced boxer vs internet loudmouth.

Easy call.

Which app? Not seeing it on mine.
I’ve got that “I know a guy who knows a guy. Fogeddaboudit” app.
Hard rock absolutely sucks. Only app you can use in Florida on the up and up so they offer the worst lines. I hate it.
Yeah, I like +180 a lot more than +150

IIRC that Super Bowl prop I hit of “any non-QB throws a TD pass” (+2200) only paid like +800 on that app.

Not saying Paul is gonna win, but he's a much better boxer than you guys are giving him credit for. Good luck on your bets!

So now that this is a "sanctioned" boxing match, any idea what rules they're using? Above is Texas rules for exhibition matches.

FWIW, at my age I gotta pull for Tyson as he was a monster champ back in the day and I'd never heard of Paul until now.

"While Paul vs. Tyson is a sanctioned fight, it won't be contested under standard rules.

Rather than the standard three-minute rounds for men's boxing matches, Paul vs. Tyson will be contested over eight, two-minute rounds. The gloves used by the fighters will also be larger than normal, weighing 14 ounces"

I’m rooting soooooo hard for a KO.

Paul acting like McGregor with the low stance , and the gun point, the throat slash, what a jerk.
He may be awakening a sleeping giant . Teddy Atlas is on his podcast saying if this is a real fight that Paul may have made a huge mistake .
Also acting like reach is an advantage with that schtick early in the clip.

Clearly he has never watched a Tyson match. Tyson has always been the “smaller” boxer - if he gets inside and lands one to the ribs or an upper cut to the jaw, it’s over.

This bugs me. Might not make a huge difference, but it would seem to favor Paul.
Mike Tyson has knocked out so many sparring partners over decades using 16 oz sparring gloves , the gloves wont matter , the boxing gloves are to protect the hands , not someone's head, its all about blunt force trauma . Depends on whether the gloves have padding or horse hair , horse hair is called a punchers glove.
