Missed Flight - Need Help (1 Viewer)

My MIL missed her flight this morning, when we called to re-book a flight, we were charged for the round trip. They say that when you miss a flight, your itinerary is cancelled. That sounds like garbage to me, and I saw nothing like that in the fine print(very possible I missed it). Obviously understand paying for flight missed, but both flights is a scam.

Any course of action or suggestions?

I have already paid for the new itinerary, needed to get it taken care of quickly. Philippine Airlines if it matters.

I've never flown that airline, but I have found that usually if you ask to talk to a manager and explain the situation they will accommodate you. Just keep going up the chain until you get someone who will get you a refund.

That's the plan, checking in for possible previous experiences. I'll go through all the channels before I flip my lid.

If you miss your flight you should still go to the airport and they will put you on standby. If you miss your flight (or decide not to show up) then the airline has a right to charge you a ticket change fee and the difference in ticket price. Otherwise people would buy cheap tickets on one day, miss the flight, and demand to fly on a more expensive flight for no extra charge.

This is coming from someone who absolutely hate airlines, but there are millions of scammers out there who would do exactly what I described.

I have zero problem with any fee or penalty. I have no problem paying for a new flight. I have a huge problem being told the entire itinerary, including the return flight a month away, has been voided. I had to buy a round trip flight because of a missed flight. That is my problem.

It's called the flat tire rule - however you need to be there less than two hours after your flight and apparently only applies for domestic flights. Make sure to call the airline as soon as you know you're going to miss a flight so they don't cancel your entire itinerary.

So when you say she missed the flight, to me it means she was running late. The details seem to suggest she never even showed up, is that correct?

I've missed plenty of flights and usually pay for the flight I missed and the one to replace it. A few times they let me slide because I'm a frequent flyer but it's not the norm.

I've only missed 1 flight and Delta charged me $300 change fee and the difference in the ticket (was actually a cheaper flight so got a $25 credit or something)

This was an international flight as well

"missed flight"-late or didn't show? Late usually means you get a later flight without a lot of hassle.

International is a different story.

This is why I fly southwest almost exclusively now. As the others have posted though, if you miss your flight and don't call to cancel, you are hosed. Did the mil go to the airrport? Or just skip all together?
