The last couple of days there have been conflicting reports that Moreno was going to practice today (whcih sounds good) and that he wasn't close to returning. Anybody hear if he actually came back on the practice field today?

Thanks,

BB

Moreno Practices for First Time in 30 Days

By Andrew Mason

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — With some old-school L.L. Cool J providing the musical accompaniment during pre-practice stretching, Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno made his return — we won’t call it a comeback — to the practice field Tuesday afternoon.

Moreno wore an orange “no-contact” jersey and acknowledged at midday that he wasn’t yet back to 100 percent as he recovers from the hamstring injury suffered in the first seven-on-seven period of training camp Aug. 1.

“I feel good; 80-some percent,” Moreno said. “I’ve just got to get back out here.”

Moreno was able to work out in recent weeks.

“A lot of things with (strength and conditioning coach Rich) Tuten, pushing sleds, trying to jog, do this and that, work out, try to get bigger and stronger,” Moreno said. “It helps, but at the same time, you’ve got to be out here getting your wind.”

Added Broncos coach Josh McDaniels: “”I think he’s handled it the best that he could.”

Moreno said he was uncertain whether he would play in the preseason finale against Minnesota — or in the regular-season opener at Jacksonville, for that matter, although the 12-day timetable between now and then makes accurate predictions difficult.

“Who knows? I’m just going to try to get better. If I’m out there, I’m out there. Hopefully I am,” Moreno said.

The Broncos have been duly cautious with Moreno, given how summer and early-season hamstring injuries can often linger into the winter.

“I think I’ll be over it. At the same time, you never know with a hamstring,” Moreno said. “I didn’t know the first time it happened. I’ll just make sure I’m healthy enough, come out here and get better.”

Moreno also missed a chunk of preseason and training camp last year after spraining a medial collateral ligament in the 2009 preseason opener at San Francisco.

“He’s gone through this before, and he started the season off last year without playing much in the preseason,” McDaniels said. “We’re kind of in the same boat. Hopefully we can start faster with him this year once we start playing him in the regular season.”

Assuming he gets healthy himself, I think CBuck has some great value this year.

I can't see the situation changing any from the ~60-40 split in carries Moreno had with CBuck last year, and a bad hamstring injury is often reaggravated.

Going to be interesting to see how this pans out with the two lead backs struggling to get healthy, and some less than stellar options behind them.

I am guessing he is healthier than they are letting on, generally you dont come back and get cleared from a hamstring injury until it is healed because if you come back and its 80 percent healed then you reinjure it every time. Seems fishy to me and right in line with McDaniels, "Belichek like" head games on injuries...

So where does this leave us with Denver RBs at the moment for week 1?

Current statuses as best as I could figure out...

Moreno = 80%

Buckhalter = returned to practice today.....Are they really going to go with Buckhalter if Moreno isn't healthy?

Lendale White = Finally played first preseason game, didn't watch the game but 2.8 ypc doesn't sound good.

Fargas = released today

Ball = Haven't seen him play either, but preseason stats look decent

Going by these assumptions, I would think Week 1 will be similar to the general trend last year -- split time between Moreno and Buckhalter, with White to run some of the tough short yards and give both backs a breather. I don't think they'd cut Fargas if they were concerned about both Moreno and Buckhalter being ready to go.

Also keep in mind that Lendale is suspended for the first 4 games...that plus the Fargas release may lean toward both Moreno and Buck being healthier than they are letting on.

That is, mind you pure speculation.

I'm not sure Fargas being cut is a great sign about Moreno and Buck. Lance Ball outplayed Fargas and the coaching staff seemed okay enough with Ball to bring him in during passing downs, which may speak to his pass-blocking proficiency. I agree with the guy above who said this is a mess. Buck might be the best of the 3, but when's the last time he was completely healthy? Given the injuries and McDaniels' history of rotating backs (when he had healthy backs to rotate) in Denver and NE, I'm not sure this is a backfield I really want any part of for fantasy football purposes--unless you can get one of the guys real cheap/late in a draft.

:shrug: Keep in mind the actual quote from Moreno was "eighty some" - while many sources have interpretted this as "about 80%, it is more accurately "8X%" - implying somewhere in the mid 80's. Yes I realize this is WAY overanalyzing this. I also realize that McD is a Belly disciple - how hurt is Brady again?

I'm not convinced about any athlete that says they are less than 100% healthy. Moreno's been observed to walk "gingerly" and it's been a full month since his hammy popped. But whoever is healthy, this a good sign for Denver's running game:

Ryan Clady, who has started all 32 games at left tackle since the Broncos drafted him with the No. 12 overall pick in 2007, was not only practicing Tuesday without wearing an orange, non-contact jersey, but the plan is to play him in the preseason finale Thursday at Minnesota.
