Music Draft - Rolling Stone Greatest 500 Songs Garbage List - Now with unhealthy regional pork-stuffs! (3 Viewers)

I think the singles just came out gradually over a very long period of time because if covid. But Years in the Making feels like it's been around forever to me.

I'm not really a fan of releasing 1/3 of the songs from an album in the months preceding the album dropping. It diminishes  some of the surprise for me.  But I'm a codger when it comes to albums.

I felt the same way about the second to last Hold Steady release, the first five songs were all released as singles. Luckily they corrected that on this year's album that feels like it came out ages ago because time is meaningless

We Are the Normal would have been a great Replacements song
Honestly, they're not that bad.  I can't stress enough how beloved they are here.

You don't see Johnny around too often, which is why it was such a big deal when he had his out-of-nowhere duet with Billy Joel a few weeks ago.  I'm pretty sure I texted 3/4 of the people I know, including @Northern Voice.

Robby is a big proponent of the Buffalo music scene.  He runs Music Is Art, a local nonprofit that supports children's music education and local artsy venues.  It's a great org.  Johnny gets all the publicity, but Robby's maybe the biggest behind-the-scenes player in our music scene here.  Their success has been immeasurable for our measly music scene.

Ani DiFranco weeps.

(Okay now we've really covered all the Buffalo artists)

Oh don't get me started on Ani.  I went to the Big Thief show at her venue the other day.  She bought a ####### church, named it Babeville, and it houses 2 of the absolute best venues we have.

The acoustics in the church are incredible, and it's got this awesome intimate maybe 100-200-person basement venue, Ninth Ward.

There's an art gallery in the back.  Just a great spot right on the fringe of the theater district downtown, about a 2 minute walk from where we saw Arkells.

8.07 - Summer Babe (Winter Version) (#247) - Pavement - 1992

Every time this song hits its denouement, resolution, climax, whatever you call it, I bounce a little. I'm sure they didn't try to write a pure pop song, but they did.

Every time I sit around I find I'm shot

Alright, clearly I'm going pop heavy here. This song makes me think of my best friend from my aforementioned karaoke/Walmart/University days. Her and I were pretty inseparable, from work to the pre drink to the pub, to the club, to the after party to the hangover breakfast and movies the next day.

No, nothing ever happened between us, and in fact I met Mrs. NV through her and was good friends with her now-husband before they got together. We have stayed friends but they live near Ottawa (3 hours or so away) and have young kids, so it's been dinner here or a drink there for the past ten years.

Until two weekends ago when the 4 of us went to Gatineau and spent the day visiting breweries and pubs. We stayed out til midnight, then went back to our hotel, the others went to bed and her and I stayed up til 4 AM, having another beer, reminiscing and ordering a pizza.

One of those friends you can go so long without seeing, then instantly fall back into things like nothing has changed. Anyway... It's actually that this song was big at the time that makes me think of her but the lyrics fit too.

When the sun shines, we shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be your friend
Took an oath, I'ma stick it out 'til the end
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we'll still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella

I absolutely love this song and remember a female friend every time it comes on, too. A friend's former girlfriend. He kept me in the split, I guess, though I'm very cordial and still keep in touch and remember her well, for sure.

😐😪🤮💔😡🤬

I'm now remembering that part of the reason I associate her with Rihanna is that she used some lyrics from "S.O.S." as her MSN status at some point because that was what you did in that era...

I'll double-check all the spreadsheet stuff because I'd like someone to do that for me, too.  And of course update my cheat sheet.  Thank you to rock and others (I'm suspecting Pip and/or Eephus) for keeping it all going.

Off to do The NY Times crossword buzzed. 💪
12:32. I should do these drunk more often.
I'm just catching up, but jesus, a Thursday NYT crossword in that time?  I'd need to look at my stats but don't think I've ever done that.

OK, I looked at my stats.  My best Thursday was 9:12 (what was I on?) but average is 17:20.  I repeat, jesus.

Is this song the PERFECT FIT for my playlist despite being the 21st selection in the group?  Oh hell yeah!!

Am I using WAY TOO MANY CAPS due to too much caffeine to get me through the day?  Meh, probably.

Yo Mama selects:

With pick 7.20, k4 selects

Kris Kristofferson - Sunday Morning Coming Down (476) - 1970

I personally used to listen to the Johnny Cash version of this one. I support and endorse this pick.
🤨  I should add this  :topcat:  to go with that bump on her head.
I was telling OH how embarrassed I was to go over and see a bunch of friends tonight with this big colorful welt above my right eye, and he told me this joke:

What do you tell a woman with two black eyes?

Nothing, you already told her twice!

(One might need to know his gentle nature to understand that this is indeed funny.)
