Music Draft - Rolling Stone Greatest 500 Songs Garbage List - Now with unhealthy regional pork-stuffs! (2 Viewers)

12.23

There's one obvious pick in this rack for me, but I've taken it in about 600 previous drafts so I'll let someone else have the pleasure. Plus, I need some more white people in my playlist.

There are two songs I immediately think of when this singer's name is mentioned. One, I think, has been taken already. The other is this torqued-up piece of faux-mysticism. I have no idea what she's singing about if it's not puberty and I don't care. Nor do I care that it sounds as if, instead on vinyl, they used cocaine to etch it into. That ####### guitar and Stevie's space cadet vocals get me every time.

#217: "Edge Of Seventeen" - Stevie Nicks

@Ilov80s - go!
Stevie "the GOAT" Nicks

Round 13

91 International Players Anthem by UGK w/ Andre 3000, Big Boi

So, I typed a text to a girl I used to see
Sayin that I chose this cutie pie with whom I wanna be
And I apologize if this message gets you down
Then I CC'd every girl that I'd see see round town

As @Pip's Invitation said earlier in this thread, the middle groupings in this ranking are loaded. At least, they are for me. There are 6 other songs I love here but, as I bemoaned the lack of doo *** by Wenner's merry band of idiots a few pages ago, I feel I must go there with this pick.

Doo *** was at least as subversive as punk rock was. These folks took classic standards and stood them on their heads. My choice here is as out-there as anything that will be picked in this draft. There's some kind of weird bubbling going on in the background, the back-up singers are singing a different song than the lead is, and it has "Slasher Movie 1982" written all over it.

#175: "I Only Have Eyes For You" - The Flamingoes

@Pip's Invitation, back to you brother

I'm not a huge doo-*** fan, but I've always been fascinated by this one, and it was on my No Hesitation list.

Did you intend to skip 176-200?

It's a Flash Flood of picks from me today!

13.04 Jumpin' Jack Flash -- The Rolling Stones (#144, bloc 126-150)

This bloc was down to 6 No Hesitation picks, only two of which I felt strongly about.

So it's a good time to get the Stones on my roster. This is one of the most iconic riffs ever.

@Eephusup.

Can't believe it lasted this long - good on you.

I had this as one of my "1a" picks - but I had already taken the remaining Zepplin song I wanted in that tier.

Funny I was debating between that and International Players Anthem

As if anyone is interested in my process ... :D

I copied and pasted the list of 500 - thank you eephus, then divided them into their respective tiers

then add colums for grading

graded them as a 1, 2, or 3 - with plenty remaining unmarked

All the "1's" then get graded "a" or "b" and then color coded to call attention to what I want with a quick scan

but I'm not anal

While we're waiting on 80s to ruin my life, is it just a regional thing or do you guys have to deal with stink bugs invading everything you own?
just my tomatoes.

every year. And they don't even eat them. THey stick their evil snouts into the fruit, poison the, and move on to the next tomato

THey have no natural predators, are immune to most poison, and bury deep in the ground each winter and avoid dying off even if its below zero.

Al Green - Love and Happiness

@The Dreaded Marco

13.5 - Al Green - Love and Happiness (#274)

The Lord gave Al Green one of the greatest voices ever so the Reverend could sing his praises for most of his career. But not before he'd sung  this more worldly and carnal love song set over a typically greasy Willie Mitchell groove. The track has a couple of well sampled instrumental hooks: the guitar and organ bit than starts the song and the rising horn line in the outro.

@Eephusup.
I was torn between Tumblin Dice and JJF......it's a great song....one of their best for sure.  Apparently it was inspired by Keith Richards' gardener.

I'm going to be gone for about an hour.  Pip, you are in charge of making sure nothing breaks in my absence.  ;)
Uh, I'm about to log off and won't be around much for the next 3 hours or so.

Everyone, just DON"T TOUCH THE ####### SPREADSHEET until krista gets back.

I’m visiting my daughter in LA for a few days. We’ve spent the morning at LACMA—beautiful museum.

There’s currently a fantastic exhibit from Yo####omo Nara. Apparently one of his earliest influences was album cover art. Here’s one of his pieces we just came across. Great collection!

Anyway, since I had just missed out on the song I had cued up, I decided that if any of the 4 or 5 songs remaining on my current short list were represented in that piece I’d draft the first one I saw while viewing it.

This was the first.

This was the one I'd figured would naturally fall to me late.  Glad I got that Al Green song.  Nice pick here.
