Dallas v Denver should be fun. Probably the top 2 teams in the West so far.

@Instinctive are you still going to do some picks?
?

Did I miss a turn?
No, you’ve got a column with your name in the in season tourney google sheet but no picks. Curious if you still want to make your predictions there before I lock it down.
Oh i thought this was the draft lol.

I started, ranked the team sin every pod of how they would finish, realized I did it wrong, and decided it was too complex to try again.

Lots of people picked Boston to win this tourney. 8 out of the 13 entries.

Thanks everyone for joining this stupid fun thing.

As someone who hasn't watched basketball since 1998 ish....does this tournament count towards the 82 game season?

I was all excited for a second slate of group games tonight but forgot there are no NBA games today for Election Day.

Everyone go out to vote if your area has voting today.

Game Day Beaches!!!

Let the ugly red court games commence!

If knockout tournament started today (it doesn’t), here would be the matchups as far as I calculate it.

West
#1 Den vs #4 Sac (WC)
#2 Min vs #3 Uta

East
#1 Bos vs #4 Mia (WC)
#2 Phi vs #3 Cha

Just like we all predicted.

We have 4 games pitting 1-0 teams against each other:
Mia vs Cha
Ind vs Phi
Por vs Uta
Min vs GS

Fun with scheduling:
We’ll have 4 teams playing their third IST game tonight (Brk, OKC, Dal, Mem), while Toronto wont have its first game until Friday.

If the knockout round started today (it doesn’t):

West
#1 Lakers (2-0 +30) vs #4 WC Utah (2-0 +22)
#2 Denver (2-0 +14) vs #3 Minnesota (2-0 +10)

East
#1 Boston (1-0 +14) vs #4 WC Atlanta (1-0 +6)
#2 Miami (2-0 +13) vs #3 Indiana (2-0 +11)

It’s tough seeding the teams right now since not everyone has played the same amount of games. I put Boston ahead of Miami and Indiana because of point differential. I put Atlanta in the wildcard over Brooklyn (2-1 +8), but could have gone the other way.

Yo Mama Said They’re Knocked Out
Memphis (0-3 -35)
San Antonio (0-2 -43)

On Life Support
LA Clippers (0-2 -21)
Detroit (0-2 -14)
Washington (0-2 -14)

Needs Help
Dallas (1-2 -14)
OKC (1-2 +27) - although SA blowout helps a little

I was bored at work today, but I got my In Season Tournament file (my offline one, not the google sheet) set up to do some group by group breakdown after Friday’s big slate of games.

I’d do it now, but there’s way too much up in the air right now, but we’ll have a much clearer picture after Friday.

The group with the semi-clearest picture right now is West A. A couple interesting tidbits from that group:
- This Friday’s games (Phx at Uta and LAL at Por) won’t clinch anything. Regardless of those games, it will all come down to next Tuesday’s Uta at LAL game (head to head is the top tiebreaker).
- There’s a good chance for a three way tie at 3-1 if LAL beat Por and Phx beats Uta Friday. Would just need Uta to beat LAL Tuesday and Phx to win out vs Por and Mem.
- If Uta beats Phx and LAL beats Por Friday, it will knock out any team in the West with 2 losses since it will guarantee a 3-1 team from this group is in the wild card pool.

Friday, November 17, 20237:00 PMLA LakersPortlandWest A
Friday, November 17, 20237:30 PMHoustonLA ClippersWest B

Big slate of games today (the biggest of the tourney). No games between unbeaten teams, unless you count 1-0 Boston vs 0-0 Toronto.

OK, time to nerd out on all the IST standings. We’ll be more than half way done with group stage games after tonight.

I’ll start with the East since their games are all done tonight. I’ll do the West later if I’m sober enough (wife’s away for bunco night or something like that tonight).

East A

Standings

Indiana (2-0, +11)
Philadelphia (2-1, +12)
Cleveland (1-1, +3)
Atlanta (1-1, -4)
Detroit (0-3, -22) - ELIMINATED

Remaining Games
11/21 - Indiana vs Atlanta
11/21 - Cleveland vs Philadelphia
11/24 - Detroit vs Indiana
11/28 - Atlanta vs Cleveland

Lots still up for grabs in this group. Three of the four remaining games have major stakes. Big win by Philly on the road tonight. Indy has the tiebreak over Philly and Cleveland with their head to head win.

East B

Standings

Milwaukee (2-0, +36)
Miami (2-0, +13)
New York (1-1, +16)
Charlotte (1-2, -30)
Washington (0-3, -35) - ELIMINATED

Remaining Games
11/24 - Miami vs New York
11/24 - Washington vs Milwaukee
11/28 - Milwaukee vs Miami
11/28 - Charlotte vs New York

The blowout by the Bucks tonight is huge for their chances in the group and for the wild card. Two massive games remain in this group - Mia vs NY and Mil vs Mia.

East C

Standings

Boston (2-0, +17)
Brooklyn (2-1, +8)
Orlando (1-1, -14)
Toronto (0-1, -3)
Chicago (0-2, -8)

Remaining Games
11/21 - Toronto vs Orlando
11/24 - Boston vs Orlando
11/24 - Chicago vs Toronto
11/28 - Chicago vs Boston
11/28 - Toronto vs Brooklyn

Boston can clinch the group Tuesday with a win at Orlando since they already beat Brooklyn and Toronto. This group has the most games remaining.
