NBA BTTF VI Draft - DONE! Regular Season OVAH. Commence trade talk and six month wait for WIS rosters (1 Viewer)

Any guess as to how many hours koya spends researching each pick? he knows next to nothing about basketball yet writes a 2 paragraph scouting report and does some sneaky humble bragging about how awesome the pick is

ps - we love you koya
It's less than you'd think.

There are a 2 or so main sources to check for basic rankings and I cut and paste a spreadsheet and then use my color coded crazy Koya spreadsheet (seriously its that silly tool developed literally a decade ago or longer for these things that makes it much much easier and for me, visual in a way that helps me quickly discern what I think value is in terms of what my team needs) From there it's what are my team needs stat wise and positionally.

once I'm short listed, a couple trips to the googles tells me what's up regarding injury and upside and boom - short list ready to go. It's usually a just in time next round inventory list, though.

Hell, I didn't know who Brogdon was a day before I picked him (and suddenly have less need as I was shocked Barton was still around, but I'll take that).

Most of my time is spent hashing about which of my top 3-5 choices I want to go with in terms of strategy - though during a football Sunday when no picks are being made is a good time to expand the list to ten or so names at the positions of need and play around with potential lineups while sitting on the couch.

Ps: love you too.

PG - Patrick Beverley

SG - JJ Redick

SF - Gordon Hayward

SF - Ryan Anderson

C - Nikola Jokic

BENCH

SG/SF - Kent Bazemore

SF/PF - Marcus Morris

This team can shoot at least. Redick, Hayward, Anderson are all 40% three point shooters. Beverley was at 38% last year.

Heading to Sox game in about an hour, will keep some semblance of a list on my phone, text me when I'm up.  :banned:

Jokic is a plus shooter as well. Bazemore and Morris are both moderate volume average efficiency shooters as well. In real life your team would be pretty fun to watch. Five out while Jokic and Hayward handle the ball. The games would all be shootouts.

I was hoping I could get a high usage backup PG for Irving after my last pick. I was really hoping Lou Williams would fall (didn't expect him to), but also had Evans, Wade, and Rose on my list. There is only one high usage PG eligible player left and he's terrible... Guess that plan is busted.

PG:   Jeff Teague / Malcolm Brogdon

SG:   Will Barton / Malcolm Brogdon

SF:   T.J. Warren

PF:   Skal Labissiere / Enes Kanter

:   KAT / Enes Kanter

Have some decent flexibility which helps - Skal is my big question mark, followed by Kanter in terms of their respective roles and minutes. That said, if Kanter is used as the big man scoring machine and little else he has been, he'd be a perfect backup for KAT due to both having high usage, and wanting to get them as many shots as possible.

If Skal is eligible at SF (was 99% last year), that REALLY opens up some interesting possibilities.  TRIPLE TOWERS? A Barton/Warren/Labs/Kanter/KAT scorefest?

He played well for me in the SIM last year.
Who did I trade him for (was it Hardaway, or a package deal to get Howard? Either way, his super solid minutes were big - and how can you not root for a near 7 footer that has the crafty game and jumpshot of some jewish guy at the Y... the ymHa (ok, JCC)

Walking to work.  Will pick when at my desk in 10
yesterday I made a pick while holding an infant in one hand, toking on a joint, mowing the lawn, and solving mutli step quadratic equations in my head.

me thinks you can walk and pick at the same time

Howard.  Min upgrade from the other two pieces let me field a squad too.  Randolph wasn't the issue with my squad, it was other guys.  :lol:   Good trade for both of us.

It was more the spelling of Biyombo and making sure he wasn't already picked that I was too distracted for.

This is the point of the draft where there is still value, and perhaps specific value depending on your need and team construct...

BUT NOT THAT MUCH.

It's like, a guard is taken.... DAMN, I knew I should have taken a guard.  Then boom, Center is taken - KNEW I should have taken a big man!

Those are the toughest choices, trying to determine what will be the better dregs left next round for the pick you don't take.

Not 100% sure because Trevor Ariza and Devin Booker are messing up my searches, and also I think my crappy kids deleted @Kraft...'s pick of Booker while I was searching (I replaced it, please confirm accuracy) but I think Trevor Booker is available?

If so I'll take Trevor Booker

Good to go.

All yours.  Was tops on my list if I didn't go guard. :thumbup:

Harrier shtick is at least 12 years old.
Yeah, but how about the I told you so after one of those guys inevitably gets hurt and my 18th rounder is logging 8 minutes of garbage time in blowouts and a bunch of DNP's coaches decision.

Then what?

it's potentially a reach by about 5 rounds, but I want him:

C BOBAN Marjanovic - DET

@Kev4029

BOBAN is a per 48 minute beast, and he's set up to get 12-15 minutes per game in Detroit this season. My centers should all be per minute studs:

C: Dirk - Noel - BOBAN
PF: Cousins
SF: Butler
SG: Lou Williams
PG: Lin

Im sure he's on many lists. Including mine.

What could possibly go wrong?

Seriously, if it goes even a little bit right, it's huge value per minute. If you hadn't the minutes at center already, far more risky, but nice upside play for you.

Now, as to that back court...

@hagmania - skipped, pick anytime

OTC:

@Kev4029

@JMon348

Chem - catch up skip

@Yo Mama

@msudaisy26

Scoob - catch up skip

THEN IT'S @Kraft... and the turn with everyone at 7 players.

Not super exited about my options here.

PG Patty Mills SAS

Hopefully he stays the starter when Parker returns. He's the better player and fits better with the starting lineup, in my opinion. He took 355 threes last year and hit them at 41.4% and plays some decent defense (not reflected in WIS).

plenty of quality guard/wing minutes available. Bigs...not so much.

I suppose that depends on your definition of quaity (fyi, wings I tend to agree, but true well rounded guards, especially if you need PG, nottasomooch)

I find it much harder to cobble good guard min, maybe that's just me

Decent SG/SF/PF minutes are always easy to come by, quality PG and C minutes go quick. There was a handful of SG/SF types that I liked better than Mills but one of them will be around when I pick again. There are only a couple centers left that I could guarantee could get 1500 minutes if they are healthy and none of them are significant net-positives in the sim.

I go back and forth each year between trying to balance out my team and just taking the best player available.

Also between going for the most available minutes and just the best per minute guys.
