Netflix Original: Stranger Things (1 Viewer)

The actor playing Lucas, Caleb McLaughlin, is actually 16 already.  This surprised me.
big brother love interest kid is 33. 16 yos playing 12-13 surprises?

I really want that fat kid with the curly hair to at least take a shovel to the face
for some reason I got it into my head last season that the kid had no previous acting experience and found myself rooting for him as an actor and character- was pleasantly surprised by how he did. see him recently get the verizon campaign and thought- good for you, ####ed up looking no experience kid...way to go. this season, he seems way over the top too much, which I mention to the wife. now she tells me the kid was starring on broadway as a 9 yo in les mis or something and has been killing it as an actor and singer ever since, including with stranger things. showed me a couple youtube clips of national anthems at MLB games and whatnot. I've stopped rooting for the over-acting brat.

This show is awesome sauce.  Haters back off imo.
my old mans brother used to make awesome barbecue sauce it had some jalapenos in it and just a hint of brown suger basically you just made me hungry take that to the bank bromigo

Meh, it's annoying because it targets younger audiences, but I'll probably finish watching in my spare spare time.

The curly haired lisp kid is the only one I like.

Token kid.

Apparently his kiss with Max onscreen was his first real kiss.
So if i recall when that event occurred in my life, there were some other, um...things that happened during said event :pickle: :oldunsure:

I wonder if he had the same reaction.

Nice job hiding the spoiler Orton

You want to know if Lucas spurted in his pants?
LOL, wasn't quite going THAT far, just curious how good of an actor he really is or if Max noticed a sudden roll of lifesavers in his pocket. that would be kind of an awkward way for an already awkward act to occur.

Younger audiences?  I'm 45.  I was the same age as these kids in 1984.

ah... yeah. I assumed it was targeting all the adults who were in that age-range in the 80s.

I talked to a millennial tv fan (used to work in the industry) in the office- she had no interest. "too nostalgic for stuff I have no nostalgia about"

I do remember one of the cool things about that Track and Field video game.

Once you qualified on the javelin toss and you had another javelin to throw, if you threw it straight up, you hit a bird and it fell to the ground, while gored by the javelin, and you got bonus points

The episode about Eleven finding her "sister" was about as bad as "The Fly" episode of breaking bad..

So, I get the comparison between shows.

Honestly, a watchable show... But far from memorable.
The Fly was a meh episode in a series of awesome episodes

Episode 7 of this show was a bad episode in a series of mostly good, but sometimes meh episodes

Just binge watched S1 the past couple of nights.  Will likely watch S2 this weekend.  Then I'll check in and make comments.

Does Season 2 get any better or is it just more of the same mindless crap?  I found Season 1 mildly entertaining but definitely not scary or even that suspenseful.  I haven't been able to make it past S2E2.

If you didn't like Season 1 why would you like Season 2?

It's not really supposed to be scary, any more than something like The Goonies was.

P.S. - You won't. S2 isn't as good as S1.

Last year it was nominated for best drama Emmy and was the odds on favorite to win. I think it even got up to -200 before losing.

I was shocked and don't see it as that kind of a show, but clearly people do.
Agreed. I really enjoy this show a lot. But it is popcorn TV for me. A joyride back through my childhood as a middle school kid in 1983 and this season 1984. It is great nostalgic fun. I also love the Carpenter and Spielberg feel to all of it.

But an Emmy? Lord no.

I enjoyed the nostalgia of it and was hoping they'd build the plot.  Just seems like more of the same.  I was only expecting scary and suspenseful b/c that's what everyone told me.

Some of you cats are out of your mind.  This show is fantastic and it will win Emmys.
If it does...wonderful.

I love the show. But I don't see an Emmy happening. Long shot IMO. But if it does. Cool. I just can't see it happening though. It would be like the Goonies winning an Oscar for best screenplay or picture.

LOL.

I could see one or two of those kids being nominated for acting.

I could see a nomination for directing as well.

I mean, season 1 was literally just the favorite to win Best Drama a few months ago.

I don't necessarily agree but it's not a lol propsoition.

I don't find it scary at all (maybe for younger kids).  I do think season 2 had more suspenseful moments than season one.  Overall, it is enjoyable.  The nostalgia is fun...there's Sci-Fi...there secret government programs/cover up...there's humor...  Its an entertaining blend IMO.  I will continue to watch season 3.

In terms of feel, Season 1 is Alien and Season 2 is Aliens.

They really do cram an amazing amount of 80s nostalgia into these shows. Of which I, of course, heartily approve. And not just the imagery and sounds but the structure of the story itself.

Makes me want to watch a VHS movie on a 19" tube TV.
