New Draft - Songs about Imperfect Relationships (1 Viewer)

Round 9: Wild card

Wicked Game - Chris Isaak

The world was on fire and no one could save me but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
I'd never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you
And I'd never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you

No, I don't want to fall in love (this girl is only gonna break your heart)
No, I don't want to fall in love (this girl is only gonna break your heart)
With you
With you (this girl is only gonna break your heart)

What a wicked game you played to make me feel this way
What a wicked thing to do to let me dream of you
What a wicked thing to say you never felt this way
What a wicked thing to do to make me dream of you

And I don't want to fall in love (this girl is only gonna break your heart)
No, I don't want to fall in love (this girl is only gonna break your heart)
With you

The world was on fire and no one could save me but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
I'd never dreamed that I'd love somebody like you
And I'd never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you

No, I don't want to fall in love (this girl is only gonna break your heart)
No, I don't want to fall in love (this girl is only gonna break your heart)
With you (this girl is only gonna break your heart)
With you (this girl is only gonna break your heart)

No, I (this girl is only gonna break your heart)
(This girl is only gonna break your heart)

sniped ...I knew I waited too long dammit

Round 9 - Cheating

At least it's based on a cheating fiancee...

Shellac - Prayer to God

To the one true God above
here is my prayer.
Not the first you've heard
but the first I wrote.
(not the first, but the others
were a long time ago...)
There are two people here
and I want you to kill them.

Do it based on songs that feature specific non-standard instruments? Sax, Horns, etc. I'm sure others can come up with other categories.
Could do that, too, although sax could be a draft on its own. Sax will have tons much more material than say, the triangle.

True, but you could have it be something like this where you have multiple picks per category, with more for categories like Sax.

Jackyl’s Greatest Hits
My friend used to really love that video for what he thought was its sheer stupidity. I liked metal (not Jackyl) and he was a hardcore kid. He would yell out, "Hey Rock," and make that damn chainsaw noise over and over. Rrrruuuh-ruuuuh-ruuuuh-ruuuh-ruh.

Ah, yes. Such was his categorization of metal. Too stupid for words. I had little argument in response to that particular charge.

Jackyl’s Greatest Hits
That lead guy from Jackyl was on a show called Full Throttle Saloon. Did you ever see that on TruTV?  The Jackyl guy, Jesse, was a partner with the Saloon owner Michael. The saloon (known as the world's largest biker bar) was on this huge piece of property with stages, cabins, etc. in Sturgis, SD. It was a week long bike rally that was filmed and ran for a few years until the place burned down. I think it has been rebuilt. Anyway, there was some colorful people there.

Round 10 - Leaving - The Dance, Garth Brooks

During the worst of my loadie days, i confess to getting behind the wheel in the worst kinds of condition but, for some reason, i'd walk the quarter-mile home from my corner bar more often than not. Reno's saloons are 24-hr operations and i made my living in casinos, so it was often dawn or later by the time i'd make that trek. Early light is a sacred thing in the high desert and would often bring out whatever song was in my heart or drunken soul on my way home.

Where i stepped off the main drag to my street, to my left was the playground of an elementary school. At dawn, that field was always crowded with crows. Their tricksteristic bickering & posturing appeared even more human than normal when i was drunk, maybe because their cackles seemed directed as much my way as intraspecially. Since i didn't speak the language, i chose song as my contribution to the intercourse. My inebrial memory no longer provides a key to my winnowing process 25 yrs on, but this song, popular on the jukebox then, appeared to be the one they liked the most. I valued that give & take and and so enjoyed my anthropomorphic view of Corvus-Americans that i named my roman a clef about the Scary Mary years Crows. So, there's that.

Looking back on the memory of

The dance we shared beneath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known you'd ever say goodbye
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd have to miss the dance
Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I the king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd of had to miss the dance

Round 10

Leaving

Please Don't Go - KC and the Sunshine Band

They were supposed to play a free concert to kick off the ACC tournament here this past March, but it was cancelled.  I was ready to put on my boogie shoes and shake my booty.

I need your love
I'm down on my knees
Beggin' please, please, please
Don't go
Don't you hear me, baby
Don't leave me now
Oh, no, no, no, no
Please don't go
I want you to know
That I, I, I love you sooooooo

Round 10  Cheating  -  Who's That Girl?  -  Eurythmics

Really love this album.

The language of love
Has left me stony gray
Tongue tied and twisted
At the price I've had to pay
Your careless notions
Have silenced these emotions
Look at all the foolishness
Your lover's talk has done
Beautiful imagery.

Round 10: Cheating

Strangers When We Meet - The Smithereens

She told me Sunday
Baby its over
We cant go on this way
I really love you
But I must live too
She said take care okay?

Please don't look my way
When you see me on the street
We will still be strangers
When we meet

I never really
Thought that you'd give up
Your home and Family
I've got my own life
You've still got your wife
She whispered tenderly

Please don't look my way
When you see me on the street
We will still be strangers when we meet

All throughout this troubled time
Times I wish that you were mine
Spend my nights and days thinking of you
Sometimes lie awake at night
Think of you and its all right
Spend my days and nights
Dreaming of you

She told me Sunday,
Baby its over
We cant go on this way
I really love you
But I must live too
She said take care okay?

Cold Distant

Bob Marley - Waiting in Vain

It's been three years since I'm knocking on your door
And still I can knock some more
Ooh boy, ooh boy, is it crazy look, I want to know now
For I to knock some more, you see

In life I know
That there is lots of grief
But your love is my relief
Tears in my eyes burn
Tears in my eyes burn
While I'm waitin'
While I'm waitin' for my turn, you see

I thought you meant this song

A lot of the words are the same, but I think its different song.

Could have gone with a more obvious tune by these guys, but I like this one more.

Round 10 (cheating): “My Wife” - The Who

Gonna buy a tank and an AE-RO-PLANE

When she catches up with me won't be no time to explain

She thinks I've been with another woman and that's enough to send her half insane

Round 10 - Leaving

Your dog - soccer mommy

'Cause I don't wanna be your baby girl
That you show off to the world and
When you decide you wanna feel
Like you're living something real

I'm not a prop for you to use
When you're lonely or confused
I want a love that lets me breathe
I've been choking on your leash

Round Nine

Leaving

Train In Vain - The Clash

You say you stand by your man
Tell me something I don't understand
You said you love me and that's a fact
And then you left me, said you felt trapped

Well some things you can explain away
But the heartache's in me 'til this day

You didn't stand by me
No, not at all
You didn't stand by me
No way

Round 11 - Cheating - I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You), Aretha

Church

You're a no good heartbreaker
You're a liar and you're a cheat
And I don't know why
I let you do these things to me
My friends keep telling me
That you ain't no good
But oh, they don't know
That I'd leave you if I could
I guess I'm uptight
And I'm stuck like glue

'Cause I ain't never
I ain't never, I ain't never, no, no
Loved a man, the way that I, I love you

Some time ago I thought
You had run out of fools
But I was so wrong
You got one that you'll never lose
The way you treat me is a shame
How could you hurt me so bad?
Baby, you know that I'm the best thing
That you ever had

Kiss me once again
Don't you never, never say that we we're through

'Cause I ain't never
Never, Never, no, no
Loved a man, the way that I, I love you

I can't sleep at night
And I can't eat a bite
I guess I'll never be free
Since you got, your hooks, in me
Oh, oh, oh, yeah, yeah

I ain't never loved a man
I ain't never loved a man, baby
Ain't never had a man hurt me so bad, no
Well, this is what I'm going to do about it
I tell you, I'm gonna...

R10 - cheating

Let's keep it going with the all time greats.

I feel like I may have taken this in a previous draft but it's perfect here, basically fits the feel of my list (even if the genres are slightly different) and it's been a while.

Solitary Man - Neil Diamond

Melinda was mine 'til the time
That I found her
Holding Jim
And loving him
Then Sue came along, loved me strong
That's what I thought
Ya, me and Sue
But that died too

Don't know that I will
But until I can find me
The girl who'll stay
And won't play games behind me
I'll be what I am
A solitary man
Solitary man

Round 11: Cold/Distant

From another woman whose voice does it for me: Frank and Ava - Suzanne Vega

On the way to the bidet
Is when the trouble used to start
It didn't mean she wasn't queen
Of the tinderbox that was his heart

Her fire his desire meant that
Everything must come undone
And so now we know it's not enough to be in love

He's so true, she is too
She says, "I love you Frank, " and then they drank
All night, what a fight
He says it isn't me you're thinking of

She's cool, it makes him cruel
And they needle till the jewels
Go raining down upon the ground
She says it's not enough to be in love

Not enough to be in love
Not enough to be in love

They woke up, and they broke up
They were so volatile, and all the while
Life passed, and it went fast
And yet they never could forget

Their chemistry, like you and me
It proved to keep them both apart for life
And so, now we know
That it's not enough to be in love

Not enough to be in love
To be in love
To be in love
To be in love
