New Draft - Songs about Imperfect Relationships (1 Viewer)

one of my favorite songs of the last few years. I always thought it started "Baby's in ramaad right now"... creating a fictionalized united arab emirates city for debauchery.

11- Disagreeable behavior:

Tropical #### Storm- you let my tyres down

Bebe's in remand right now
And she'll be there for a while
For the wounding of a rent a cop
And a ram raid in Sunshine
She's right there on CCTV
Forgetting to take her medication
But Ruby says her lawyer will get
The best deal that they can make her
But then I grew up around her family
And they were such a bunch of losers
Anchored only to each other
On a sea of vodka cruisers
She could say anything
At anytime
So any mention of plea bargains
Is making everybody feel uptight

You let my tyres down
I'd give you anything at any time
But you let my tyres down

no, no joke.

I noticed a 4-5 days ago when I brushed my tongue it felt weirdly numb and i had a metallic taste - I couldn't place it right away, but it's like when you get numbing shots at the dentist.

since then, the taste has gotten slightly worse and my upper lip felt odd and kind of twitched

earlier today I noticed I couldn't blink just my right eye (can blink if I do both of them), significantly harder to drink without losing a bit of it, and the right side of my face felt numb

wife made me call the after hours number for my doctor - he recommended going to the ER as a precaution (only a precaution) ...after discussion I am going in Monday morning - no way do I want to hit the ER with all the Covid stuff and hassle - I am not having a stroke

had a couple of friends over the years get this - I don't have drooping face yet so fingers crossed ...
Hmnn.

Bell's palsy

Symptoms

Signs and symptoms of Bell's palsy come on suddenly and may include:

  • Rapid onset of mild weakness to total paralysis on one side of your face — occurring within hours to days
  • Facial droop and difficulty making facial expressions, such as closing your eye or smiling
  • Drooling
  • Pain around the jaw or in or behind your ear on the affected side
  • Increased sensitivity to sound on the affected side
  • Headache
  • A loss of taste
  • Changes in the amount of tears and saliva you produce
In rare cases, Bell's palsy can affect the nerves on both sides of your face.

When to see a doctor

Seek immediate medical help if you experience any type of paralysis because you may be having a stroke. Bell's palsy is not caused by a stroke, but it can cause similar symptoms.

See your doctor if you experience facial weakness or drooping to find out the underlying cause and severity of the illness.

@Binky The Doormat    How are you feeling this morning?
thanks!  same but a little more numbness, drinking is a treat ...just have to tilt my head back some and go for the left side of my mouth so it doesn't spill out

looked in the mirror today ...yeah, it's happening, it's definitely started ...dammit

I am just hoping it doesn't droop too far or last too long

and @Bracie Smathers - thanks, yeah the stroke symptoms can be similar, but they come on quickly - this has been a gradual thing over the last 5-6 days

T&P man, hope it gets better quick!

Round 13 - Wildcard (unrequited division) - You Don't Know Me, Ray Charles

My very favorite unrequited love song and one of the few songs i can break my own heart by singing. My one criticism - i've made this draft a loose collection of songs i like to sing or harmonize to and this one is in a key (C, i think) which is too high for my voice, too low to make going down a str8 octave fun and, Ray (like Aretha) is just not a performer one harmonizes with.

You give your hand to me
And then you say hello
And I can hardly speak
My heart is beating so
And anyone can tell
You think you know me well
But you don't know me (no you don't know me)

No you don't know the one
Who dreams of you at night
And longs to kiss your lips
Longs to hold you tight
Oh I am just a friend
That's all I've ever been
Cause you don't know me (no you don't know me)

I never knew the art of making love
No my heart aches with love for you
Afraid and shy I let my chance go by
The chance that you might love me too (love me too)

You give your hand to me
And then you say goodbye
I watch you walk away beside the lucky guy
Oh you will never know
The one who loves you so
Well you don't know me

I'm not a huge Blink fan but the double drum sound on this song when they had the high schooler play drums along simultaneously with Travis Barker is primo.
Yeah, I don’t particularly care for blink, but for me this song just achieves a naked honesty about the emotion

Round 13  Cheating  -  Oh Henry  -  The CIvil Wars

Oh Henry, have you got something to tell me?
'Cause everybody's been sayin'
You been runnin' around
Oh Henry, I know you wouldn't hurt me
Don't you know that we don't need
One more grave in this town

Boy if you're smart
You know you'll only have my heart
'Til death do us part

Oh you and I both know
That at the end of forbidden road
There's a six-foot hole

I've lived this song before.

18 Rounds / Three categories:

5 about Cheating

5 songs about Leaving

2 about being Cold/Distant,

2 about being Generally disagreeable or irritating behaviors

3 wild cards
I may have missed it but did we decide if we're going 17 or 18 rounds?

And if it's 18, which category gets an extra pick?

our spreadsheet has been left for dead ...
as long as that is the status quo, we can all just guess what categories we need and pick accordingly. If it gets updated before the draft ends, follow the categories as best you can until the end.

And lets unlock the spreadsheet. None of us have any traceable personal info in it do we? And I can handle inappropriate or abusive messaging, I'm married.

Love me some east coast country-hippie chicks.

Not sure how to categorize this song, so I'll burn my first wildcard.

ROUND 11Keep the Home Fires Burnin', Sarah Shook and The Disarmers.

I can't love this song enough:  Good As Gold
REALLY nice to hear evolved, gimmick-free songwriting in country. Kind of a alt-c Elvis Costello vibe

attn: @Mr.Pack's daughter - top-notch songwriter here with the  personality of a tree stump. my A&R heart screams "jackpot!"

i was stunned that you made a Garth Brooks selection. I don't know the song, but imo that period was country at its nadir, but getting hugely popular ( was in Dallas at the time).

I remember a conversation with my wife at that time

wife- I've been thinking I might start listening to country music.

me - (after a pregnant pause) Fine. I've been thinking about starting heroin

Corporate Country is music's tailing pond....

A barroom earworm i'd sing in a coke&cognac blaze to crows thru a morning haze, is all

I'll abide, but no way will I avoid Southern Rock.

I'll kick off Round 14 - This is my morning pick.

A quintessential leaving song. Can't You See
great song.

I grew with a lot of fairly hard-core country at no choice of my own and did not like it.

But thinking back, so much of "rock" had a gigantic country influence ...or were downright country.

R14  Leaving

Jellyfish - That Is Why

And when I say I trust in you

I promise you the truth

And when you say I bet you won't

You know I will

And it'll be better in the end

So when you think you got it figured out

Then you know you don't

Like all the rest you'd like to sit and pout

But of course you won't

And that is why

I'll confide in you the truth this time

That is why

I just can't go on and live this lie

Round Twelve

Leaving

Grateful Dead - Brokedown Palace

Fare you well, fare you well
I love you more than words can tell
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
To rock my soul

and if some real punk/emo kid doesn't make me throw it back

Round Thirteen

Cheating

Dashboard Confessional - Screaming Infidelities

But as for me I wish that I was anyone, anywhere
Making Out...
Your hair, it's everywhere
Screaming infidelities
And taking its wear
