Dave is awful now. Since he's no longer "30-year old Karate Kick Diamond Dave", and his voice is prettywell shot, he almost seems uncomfortable up there. Like he doesn't know what to do with himself.

He almost did another faceplant on one of those moves.Looks like he belongs in a lounge act or something,very hard to watch this :tfp: he has become even though the indian holler was a nice touch.

:lmao: See, now that's Van Halen. Part performance art. The Sammy years were ok pop music and all, but let's not confuse that with anything remarkable. Needed more Motorhead, less Celine Dion.

I couldn't tell how bad Dave's voice was until I watched it at home. Thought Runnin' With the Devil sounded good live but this = :X :

EVH has still good it - after Dave cut his nose Eddie did a solo for about 5-10 minutes that was better than the rest of the show.

 
The Kimmel performance was disappointing.Everyone named Van Halen sounded great. Eddie seemed relaxed and having fun, Alex was Alex and I am really impressed with Wolfgang. His Michael Anthony is spot on. From playing to his background vocals.

Everyone named Roth, not so much. Just horrible. Anyone have Gary Cherone on speed dial?

 
DLR has always sounded awful live. Not sure what the big surprise is. His timing is off in the Kimmel performance however it reminded me of many past drunk performances. Sounded like vintage live VH to me.

His performance does seem a bit forced though vocals aside. If he just pulled up a stool and sat there people would be complaining they want Diamond Dave. We should all be so lucky to look that good in our 60's though.

The new disc is pretty awesome. Listening to it in the car, volume cranked, windows down, the live Van Halen experience is so great. Dave is Dave. The band is as tight as ever, and Wolf's harmonies are very good. It's amazing how Eddie is at the top of his game at 60, especially given the long road he has traveled. Live VH is an awesome concert experience, and the new disc is a pretty good representation of that. If someone wants to get hung up on Dave being weird and his voice being a shell of it once was, that's fine. VH to me has always been about the party.

 
Picked up the new live disc and the band sounds really good but DLR is just horrible,no other way to say it.

He did alright on a few tracks but the rest were almost painful to listen to,it almost kills the buzz of the band sounding so good.

 
Big VH fan, but the DLR experiment has run it's course.

He's always been bad live, but now he is horrible sounding, cant remember lyrics (ok, he never could) and he looks awkward (creepy?) on stage.

Dave has looked and acted creepy for the past 25 years. I shudder to think of what you might find in his browser history.
 
DLR needs to retire. At this point I wouldn't mind if VH went the Journey route and found a singer that sounds like DLR from the first run of the band.

 
My VH enjoyment diminished severely when someone pointed out how much Alex's cymbal usage overpowers most of their catalog. Now it's all I hear.

I've always noticed that during certain songs. Don't Tell Me What Love Can Do is a glaring example. All of those cymbal crashes during the choruses are so distracting, which is a shame considering the snare work there is very nice.

Sure, but it's like a party where one guy is running around yelling and acting like a ##### the whole time. That is what Roth's live voice is akin to. Just awful.

 
I think the back half of that record is pretty solid. Outta Space, The Trouble With Never, Big River and Beats Workin' are all good tunes. But the front half is pretty forgettable. Tattoo is atrocious, She's the Woman defines generic, and China Town is mediocre, yet those are the three songs they elected to play from it?? :lol:

 
Van Halen might actually be worse than Radiohead, although Hot For Teacher far eclipses anything Radiohead has (or ever will) put out

I'm not the biggest Sammy Hagar fan in the world, but God bless him for defending Mike like that.

Not a big VH fan but :thumbup: to Sammy Hagar. Really have to believe that both Eddie and Dave are psychotic narcissists.

 
Hagar is drunk if he really thinks that Anthony is a top rock bass player, but he is sticking up for his buddy, and he deserves mad props for that.

A few years ago Dave hired the guitarist from a Van Halen tribute band. Maybe Eddie should return the favor and hire their singer?

I'd be OK with that, but I'm one of 7 maybe 8 people who liked that album.

At least Gary can still sing really well. I'm not sure he fits the band though.
