LOL at Kerry Collins being an MVP candidate. I'm not laughing because he doesn't deserve to be MVP, because he certainly should be on the radar, but who would have thought?

Kerry Collins. That team would not be 10-0 with Vince Young at QB.
ok. that just makes him the most valuable qb on his team. give chris johnson mvp because they wouldnt be 10-0 with lendale white as their only tailback.

Warner, Jacobs, Portis, TJones, Favre?
WarnerJacobsPortisJonesFavreI think if the Jets beat the Titans this coming week, those bottom two can move up a bit but they are long shots at this point, more of a long shot for Favre I think. But Warner looks to have a solid lead. Not sure if Jacobs would win based on how well that line blocks for all three of those RBs, and how effective they are. But he definitely gets a lot of consideration. Portis needs to get back into form to make a push, but he is up there as well.

No, but they would probable be no worse than 7-3. Where would the Cardinals be with Matt Leinart at QB? What Warner has done this year with no running game is remarkable (and their defense is pretty average, too). I'll give Collins props for the way he has played, especially over the last few weeks, but he isn't even the MVP of his own team, or his own offense.

 The Titans are most likely the best team in the league right now, but that doesn't mean that Collins is an MVP. They're a great TEAM. Guys like Chris Johnson, Cortland Finnegan, and Albert Haynesworth are tremendous players and contributing a ton towards their wins.On the Cardinals, Boldin and Fitz are great players and contributing a ton towards their wins, but Warner is making all the great throws. His timing and precision with those guys is unreal. And make no mistake, the Cardinals are winning based on their passing game. The defense is pretty decent, but not overwhelming. And the running game has been putrid. No, Warner is what makes that team tick. Take him out and the Cardinals would be lucky to be around .500.

I would love a dark horse guy like Leon Washignton to get some recognition......

This guy needs to be appreciated for his role and what he does for the Jets ....

As a RB:

Rushing Yards:51 attempts, 240 yards, 4.7 ypc, 2 TD's

Receiving Yards: 226 yards, 30 rec, 2 TD's

Kick Returns:

25 attempts, 739 yards, 29.6 yard average (number 1 in the league), with 1 TD

Punt Returns:

21 punt returns 270 yards, (5th most yards in the league for punt return yards)

I have been so impressed with this guy and what he does for the Jets. He has been amazing at putting his team in great field position and not only is he one of the best special team guys in the league he is very important on offense as well. He has ran for some tough 3rd down conversions and is a game changer when in the game.

Total yards: The guy has 1475 combined yards and 5 TD's

For those of you saying Thomas Jones, who would the Jets miss more due to injury. Thomas Jones or Leon?

Washington may be more "valuable," but he won't get a single vote as an MVP candidate. Just not enough workload ON OFFENSE (which is really only what will get considered).Much like Troy Brown doing well on offense, defense, and special teams never got any consideration either.

Agreed. Washington is a great football player - and may be a huge asset to the Jets now (and feature back in the future) - but he will not get any consideration in my opinion.

Troy Brown was not nearly as significant in that all around role though. I agree that he will not get any votes, but I am saying he should though. I fail to see how what he is doing is "less valuable" than an offensive player and in turn why he should not receive a single vote.

Pretty sure if it ended today it'd be Favre.
Nope, not even close. It's Warner, and unless they implode with that schedule down the stretch it WILL BE Warner. And I'm a Jets fan, and Favre was already my favorite player ever prior to the Jets bringing him in. And I think the Cards beat the Giants this week as well solidifying Warner as the MVP.

There's no question that the guy fills a great role on the team and is a tremendous asset, but the bottom line is that he's still really just a role player. And not to be unfair to him, but punt and kick return yards just don't count as much as other yards. Of course they do for field position and for wins and losses, but you can't just compare a kick return yard to a rushing/receiving/passing yard on an equal basis. If we did that, then Johnnie Lee Higgins should be in the running too I guess since he has 1334 total yards. The shame of it is that the Jets just don't use Washington enough. He should be getting a lot more carries IMO. He's clearly the most explosive player on the team.

Pretty sure if it ended today it'd be Favre.
Why do you think that?I know some will just think I hate Favre....if he plays like he did last week for the rest of the season and they take that division, maybe. But Warner is killing him right now and does not have as many bad mistakes.

i love favre and I agree that warner has been better. The only trouble I have with Warner getting it is the fact that he is throwing to the greatest WR tandem in the league today and it isnt even remotely close. I kind of feel like we will see somebody emerge down the stretch.

True...though, most MVPs are throwing to some nice WRs.Like Warner before with Bruce and HoltBrady with Welker and MossManning with Harrison and WayneFavre probably won it with less than most at WR.I agree that someone may jump out down the stretch...but unless they slow down, Warner looks to be putting up just unreal numbers that I don't think voters can ignore even with the studs at WR.

What do you mean killing him? In terms of what? Reasons I think Favre would win MVP right now:-Warner has what could be 2 of the best 5 WRs in the NFL right now, with a couple of other very talented WRs on the roster.-What tough games have the Cards won?-The difference in the Jets before/after Farve on offense is remarkable. I know there are potentially many reasons for this, but Favre is going to get credit here. The next few weeks could change everything, of course (and bring up new names).

I still don't get this - even though I agree with the fact that Washington is very explosive and a great football player. Thomas Jones has played as well as almost any RB this year and has 854 yards/4.5/10 and is on pace for 1300+/14. That is great production, why would the Jets mess with the recipe right now? This actually would make the case that TJ should get some consideration as a 4th/5th place finish in the MVP and Washington, while a great all around player, should not. Just my two cents.

Yards, rating...leading in TDs, fewer INTs (though more fumbles lost), -Favre has the AFC's leading rusher-Miami, Buffalo, Dallas-they added more than just Favre...and yes, he is better than Pennington and Clemens were last year. And lets not act as if Favre has been lighting up tough competition. He played against the NFC West too...and the AFC West. And I agree, the next few weeks could change alot. If Favre keeps playing like he did against NE...he could easily get back into it and take the award.

The difference is Johnnie Lee Higgins is only a special teams star. I realize yards from scrimmage are harder to come by on offense but Leon is contributing on offense. If he ends up with 800-900 yards and 6-8 td's on offense to go along with his special team stats that is really significant. I mean he is on pace for 750 yards and 8 TD's at this stage.I just think he needs recognition as being an elite talent that is helping his team win and sit in first place in their division.

With more game like last night, and that type of play calling, I could see M. Barber sneak into this conversation, but I think Warner is the clear cut favorite as of now.

Collins, Portis, and A. Peterson will probably be mentioned too.

I'd argue that the ARI WRs have as much to do with Warner's success as the NYG O-line has to do with Jacobs'. All the NYG RBs have excelled given the opportunity. Not saying Warner isn't playing at a high level but I'd vote for Boldin before Warner on his team and I think Brees has done as much as Warner with less as a QB.

ARI won without Boldin in the lineup. Maybe we should give it to Breaston?

The Giants' O-line and the Steelers' front 7 should split the award 12 ways.
MVG? Most Valuable Group.Nah, Warner is beginning to pull ahead with this one. Portis is failing off but still in the top 3. Eli will also be in the top 3 as default last year SB MVP on a team that is 9-1 and looking SB bound again.Amazingly Collins should start to get his name in the discussion. Along with Peterson, Favre, Cutler and Haynesworth. Also, don't look now but the other Manning is making a move! That's right Payton is now the "other" Manning.

Warner. Period.
Would your opinion change if the Cardinals end up 9-7? They could easily lose to the Giants, Eagles, Vikings, and Patriots (while beating the Rams and Seahawks).
Warner. Period.
Look at the history of the MVP Award and get back to me then. Unless your name is Barry Sanders, you don't win MVP on a 9-7 team.
I agree and I think the same can be said for Peterson and Brees. I doubt either one of those guys gets it unless their teams really get things going.

Kerry Collins. That team would not be 10-0 with Vince Young at QB.
Probably not, but they'd still be 8-2 or 7-3.Arizona with Leinart would be horrible.I haven't seen anyone play as well or as consistant as Kurt Warner has this season.
I'm not sure why you guys think VY is any better than Leinart. Tennessee could possibly lost all of the following games with VY at QB: IND, GB, CHI, BAL, and possibly both games against JAX. That reasoning is pretty terrible.
