Maybe he’s lying about the pecking order.PistolPete started Carson in the final preseason game ? That alone is a fireable offense.
This may be a "point of emphasis" they are driving home to teams, to send a message for the regular season. They always call certain things they're trying to change very heavily in the preseason that year, to get teams used to it and force attention to it.Insane amount of roughing the qb calls all exhibition season. How long until rushing the passer is outlawed?
Robert Turbin.I didn't watch any of the 4th preseason games because I'm not a masochist but I'm going to list off some #### that I found sort of interesting when looking at the play-by-play of each game. This will probably mostly be about RBs.
GB vs. KC - Aaron Jones got the nod for GB, I'm not sure if him seeing any work here is odd. Devante Mays didn't get a single touch either, which I know some people were expecting. It doesn't look like Spencer Ware played at all, KC already knows what they have with him/plan to use him. Damien Williams got the nod for KC.
MIN vs. TEN - Michael Boone got the nod over Roc Thomas. David Fluellen got the nod over Akrum Wadley. I don't believe either is surprising. I'll try to stop using the word nod.
LAR vs. NO - LAR has been playing back-ups all preseason so the water boys got the nod (####) tonight. Interestingly enough, Boston Scott started ahead of Jonathan Williams. Meredith went 2/72/1 on 4 targets. This is good news because it proves he can still catch footballs.
DAL vs. HOU - Darius Jackson started over Bo Scarborough who I guess is over his hip injury. Alfred Blue started for HOU. I suppose Gallup was pretty heavily involved for a 4th preseason game (6 targets).
BUF vs. CHI - Travaris Cadet started for BUF (no Ivory) but more interestingly no Marcus Murphy who has been getting a little bit of buzz. Taquan Mizzel got the nod for CHI, I don't know who that is (forgive me homers)
JAC vs. TB - I don't recognize a single name.
PIT vs. CAR - Jaylen Samuels started for PIT, Cameron Artis-Payne for CAR. I was half expecting to see C.J. Anderson play with the way the preseason has gone. Curtis Samuel and D.J. Moore looked to have played to some extent but not Torrey Smith.
WAS vs. BAL - Kenneth Dixon got the nod for BAL, he still has #### to prove. Perine, who I guess is over the ankle injury, got the nod over Kelley who also played. Mark Andrews (3/61/0) is a guy I'm keeping my eye on given the fact that Hayden Hurst is out for a month with a foot injury and Mornhinweg's likes him some TE.
NYJ vs. PHI - Josh Adams started for PHI. I suppose it's a good thing that Shelton Gibson didn't play. NYJ is irrelevant to my interests.
NE vs. NYG - Wayne Gallman started for NYG, the ghost of Jonathan Stewart didn't suit up. I don't know the name of NE's 7th string running back.
CLE vs. DET - Nick Chubb started for CLE, Dwayne Washington for DET. No Ameer Abdullah.
IND vs. CIN - Mark Turbin (is his first name Mark, I forget) started followed by Christine "shot out of cannon" Michael. Jordan Wilkins didn't play. Mark Walton started for CIN.
MIA vs. ATL - Kalen Ballage got the nod for MIA, Malik Williams for ATL. Ito Smith didn't play.
OAK vs. SEA - Chris Warren III started for OAK, and somehow Chris Carson started for SEA. Pete must be out of his ####### mind to risk Carson in the 4th game of the preseason.
This very much surprised me, and I'm not sure what to make of it. Does that mean they view him as their actual starter and didn't want him hurt (No Blount or Kerryon Johnson either), or if they have no plans for him at all and are going to cut him by tomorrow. I thought they were going to give him a lot of playing time last night to showcase him for other teams.CLE vs. DET - Nick Chubb started for CLE, Dwayne Washington for DET. No Ameer Abdullah.
Weebs210 said:@SameSongNDance wow Carson playing fourth preseason game. Seems Penny is going to be the guy sooner then later. Jones playing is big for Williams truthers like myself.
They just paid Lockett $1 billion and he was out there with Carson on that first series. I think it's more likely that Pete is just stupid.Bojang0301 said:Maybe he’s lying about the pecking order.
Haha it was late and I knew it was wrong but I just went with it. I'll be calling him Mark from now on.Dr. Octopus said:Robert Turbin.
Yea, I do believe not one of the nyg defensive players on that play will make the 53 (or even practice squad)The Frankman said:Holy crap the Patriots just ran a naked bootleg play where I'm pretty sure it's going to result in at least 5 Giants getting cut on Monday.
EDIT: The Giants DC James Bechter is PISSED,
I’m watching the GB WR situation very closely. Part of that related to preseason games. MVS is the horse I’ve bet on across my leagues as a result of preseason games and practice reports. He’s played ahead of Moore (who’s had a lot of drops in games and in practice). St. Brown has played a lot of slot, which is also interesting, but MVS looks to be in the lead among the rookies. So did the preseason move the needle on anyone for you guys?
I was a little intrigued by Ebron's 5 catch performance with Luck so I moved him up a bit and Doyle down a bit.
Royce made me feel good about him in redraft.
Rojo scared me quite a bit, but I'll still take a shot at him in redraft because he scared everyone or so it seems. Sometimes he's just too cheap to ignore.
John Brown looks to be worth a flyer, especially in best ball.
I probably should take note of Hyde, but Chubb still scares me away from him.
Shepard doesn't look like he wants to cede the #2 target role to stone hands Engram.
Other than that, I didn't see much of note. Let me know if I missed something.
I know this is like 3 weeks old but I am just catching up after a draft weekend of massive debauchery. Lots of times teams don't want to reveal (or don't have enough reps in) their most strategic new plays. NFL teams scout the crap out of everything and if they put a wrinkle in during PSW4 then their week 1 opponent may pick up on it and be able to prepare. Also, unlike regular season, they need to be able to evaluate their defense also so they kind of WANT to give them more reps. Lastly, the RB needs chances too, and that's a great opportunity for them - break a couple tackles, convert that 3rd-and-7, make an impression that lasts. Why do teams play so conservatively in the preseason?
ETA: by that I mean why are they afraid to throw just because they are backed up by their end zone and just run and then punt? Who cares if they turn the ball over?
