NFL Preseason 2018 Game Observations Thread (1 Viewer)

Henry 3 carries Lewis one. Lewis darted straight up the gut for 7. Henry 3 for 11.

Stocker has been the TE, just one. He lined up on both sides, in the backfield, and kind of a good yard or yard and a half behind the typical TE spot. He hit the DE and turned for the ball on pass plays. On run plays, he kind of got in Henry's way like a bad fullback. Didn't like it.

Tiny Nick Williams' catch was 38 yards. He and Jennings made their catches with Taylor drawing their man in addition to his. Taylor had one catch.

I won’t disagree about Hue but sitting Mayfield is the right call. No harm will be done letting him sit and observe.
Yeah, probably so. Sitting him will get Hue fired and hopefully get a better coach in there. Cleveland deserves better than that turd.

Mariota looking good I take it?
He looks calm like most first drives. Fine throws, one roll out. They're doing a lot of play action and he's pretty smooth at it. Interesting that after the rollout, the D expected another run so Lewis could dart quickly.

Hundley with 48 or 58 yard bomb to Adams. Butler was there but not turning his head or playing CB properly...however ya word it.

Titans have lined up in 5-2 most snaps, Byard near LOS. Kind of inviting the bomb. The five include two OLBs on the LOS with hand down.

Williams catch and score. He didn't catch the ball smoothly and Jayon Brown got smoked badly. Ugly play for Brown. GB Announcers loved Williams run calling the move a slice. I wasn't that impressed. He ran diagonally away from a stumbling defender. IMO he should have done that and maybe catch the ball cleaner.

I never saw the deep safety. Camera was meh

Previous, should have said, Packers LBs look smallish. I'd totally predict success for Henry against this group.

Brian Daboll's offense in Buffalo is going to be a breath of fresh air compared to Rick Dennison. They don't have a ton of talent, but don't be surprised if they are better than you may expect.

D Adams looking mid-season form.
Top  5-wr potential. He was knocked out of 2 games with vicious hits in 2017. He left another game in 2016 in concussion protocol. I'm not sure if he's concussion-prone given the viciousness of the hits - he has recovered quickly.

Christ, someone get a gun and take Davis Webb out back. It’s like they have Chuck Knoblauch with a howitzer at QB.

Packer led with helmet, not called which is weird for preseason when they emphasize new rules and enforce penalties a bit extra usually. Delanie (not on offense) got a holding penalty on the KO.

Gabbert in

One short pass to Firkser and he does look pretty good. Williams dropped one and Lewis only got one yard.

Pack punt return man Hollins was hit, well-timed, and fumbled. Pack recovered. I couldn't see who hit him. I thought Sims. Didn't show replay. Byard was the other gunner which is oh so odd for an All pro

They need to get rid of that rule. It’s impossible for the refs to identify and they damn well know it.

The ugly guy's prom date is punting for the packers. Wait that's a guy?

Nick Williams with a fair catch

This is what sucks about the Browns. Mayfield is a billion percent better than Taylor, and should be the starter day one.

Too bad Hue Jackson and his arrogant dumb-### will continue to start Taylor because Jackson is the one driving the bus.

If I was Dorsey I would have fired that idiot the moment those words came out of his mouth last night.
Did you see Taylor go 5/5 at 20ypc against the first teamers?

Everyone I've heard from Browns camp say Taylor is clearly ahead of Mayfield. Which he obviously should be. But the point is even if it were open competition, Taylor would be winning.

5 for 5? What an awful night? :-)

Guice was injured on the long run that was called back.  Was tackled by two guys and seemed hurt but the camera went away and the announcers didn't say anything.

Tajae first down

Taylor short catch, doubled all game thus far

Fluellen with a nice run but Pamphile holding

Fluellen another good run. 6? yards

Bad WR screen call to Sharpe. Lucky Packers CB gets called for holding on press to start. Why call a screen when the corners are pressing

Filo holding, Burks had a big hit on the play

Titans timeout just before delay of game. UGLY drive for a second unit that's been getting tons of reps in camp and spring even.

Gabbert very deep drop, overthrew Sharpe. Facemask on 58 Packers

3 WRs or 4 WRs on passing plays, a TE playing FB on running plays this drive.

Encroachment pack. NFL or not, make these units run at practice tomorrow. This is so ugly.

The FB is awfully predictable, so Fluellen cuts back nicely and makes something out of nothing.

End of first Q

Lamar Miller looks more spry. Seems he's lost weight too.
I have to see this, I'm moving over to that game soon.

I've been watching every team's first couple of drives on gamepass and honestly every offense player I'd normally be watching looks good - which I suppose means no one actually looks good and that it's just preseason.

Ok, just got home from work and started watching CLE @ NYG.  Umm, yeah, so this Barkley fella is gonna be good.  I own him in 1/2 dynasty leagues and have avoided him so far in re-drafts but I may have to rethink this one.  I know it's only 1 play (talking about his 1st carry), but man, that was a great run.

As a Raider fan:  KC Chiefs meet David Amerson, back to back pass interference penalties.  Dude never looks back for the ball.

Gabbert overthrows Sharpe again. Fluellen shifted out of backfield to make it 4 WR set.

Fluellen earned four there

Screen to Fluellen, very fast Burks right there. Only 3 yards

4th down, Wadley in. Simple one cut route then burst for a first down catch at sideline. Burks covered. Geesh put the rook in for a fourth down conversion. Nice test

Wadley with absolutely nowhere to go by LG. Pack had 400 players there.

Gabbert throws it away

BTW Gilbert doing pretty well for Pack

Whitehead chasing Gabbert, again thrown away

Succup to kick

James Lofton is announcing Pack game (color guy) I've always liked him. Good for Pack fans this year

I don’t want to jump the gun but Nick Chubb doesn’t look good. Little power, little vision, panic bouncing to the outside and his speed that I thought he had in college hasn’t flashed tonight. Could be line play but it also hasn’t looked great on his end.

Mayfield scrambles and hits Callaway on the sideline. Callaway with a toe drag. Called incomplete on the field, under review. Looks like a catch to me.
