How the heck are we posting gifs?

🧟‍♂️

Zombie come for brains, emojis, and gifs.

Back in the day when people thought the board was “better,” we didn’t have a like button at all.

Are people that addicted to the dopamine hit of a red number at the top of the page?
No. We are just too lazy to actually open up the emoticon thing and look for the laugh one.
Laugh it up. :lmao:

We used to just do these and if something was really funny you get progressively quoted with one more. Like reverse laugh pyramids.

Always felt like that process brought extra laughs.

Hi Folks,

Apologies for being late in replying on this.

We changed the available one click reaction emojis. We had the laughing and the smile and they're no longer an option.

We did that because people repeatedly would use them to mock and laugh at other posters. We asked over and over for people to stop and people refused.

Finally, we just got tired of asking.

I've no doubt the forum would be better if I had more patience. I just ran out of patience there. I'm sorry.

Posters would repeatedly use them to laugh AT another poster. And that's opposed to everything we've always tried to make the community about.

So while I'm sure this won't be popular. We're doing to try and make the community a place that's inclusive and where people are less likely to be mocked.

The emojis in the comments are still available. If you want to laugh with someone with :lmao: that's great. But please don't use that to laugh at or mock someone or to passive aggressively signal that's what they're saying is laughable.

For instant reactions emojis, we have
  • Thank You
  • Love
  • Thinking
  • Sad
  • Like
That will hopefully cover the instant reactions. And I'm sure this post will get some of those.

Bottom line, we did this because I've seen up close how a community can suffer when people are mocked or laughed at.

I could absolutley be totally wrong on this, but I think removing the instant reactions like we did helps a little bit with the mocking or excluding others.

I'm certain folks will disagree and you could well be right.

Like we've done for 25 years here, I don't know if what I'm doing is the right thing. But it's the thing I've tried to be thoughtful in considering and it's the thing I think is the right thing.

Thanks.

Punish the poster down?

Not sure I follow the logic of a handful of people people causing an issue so let’s take away a cool feature from *checks notes*

Oh, yeah, punish 12K bc one is being offensive.

handful = 5, 60K/5 = 12k if you’re scoring at home
Manage the masses for the small percentage Bobby. The way of the world now.

Thanks. We tried that repeatedly without success. We didn't feel mass suspensions was the right thing.

And for punishing the other people, I would hope only having 5 one click instant reaction emojis isn't seen that way.

I don't really care about the emoji per se, but the existence of this thread implies that we have some number of middle aged men hitting the report button because they got their feelings hurt by a digital smilie face. Perhaps the micro plastics are to blame.
This is exactly where I’m at too. I don’t care at all about the emoji itself. It’s about what the decision represents. I just can’t believe we live in a world where 40/50 year-old men need to be pandered too for slightest of possible offenses. I’ve become use to it for todays 20somethings. But man am I disappointed in my fellow Gen-Xers. I thought we were tougher then that.

What I find especially bizarre about this is that it takes place in the context of a forum that doesn't allow the discussion of what would cause 90% of this sort of "problem" in the first place
I assume, but do not know, that this is something from the Shark Pool. I haven't noticed anybody complaining about emojis in the FFA, but yeah it was a constant thing in the Subforum That Shall Not Be Named.

(Obviously not trying "blame" this on the Shark Pool, as that's part of Joe's main product as opposed to the FFA. Just trying to make sense of this.)

How do we know it is us Gen-Xers complaining, it is probably the weaker millennials or Gen-Zers who take everything literally and are offended by everything.

All 7 of them that visit this board?

I'm betting on the thinker to be the next to go. I don't trust that guy. I'd usually rather be straight up laughed at than have that know-it-all thinker passive aggressively questioning the validity of my comments.
More than a few people getting reported right now for their insensitive reactions.

I’m sorry @Joe Bryant but you are so wrong about this it isn’t even funny.

You have absolutely no grasp on your community here. You think you do.

But you don’t. You let the complainers control this board when your core group is begging you to let us be adults here. Because 98% of your base here is the core group that actually provides the love and support your community needs to thrive.

You are basically crapping on the same people that made this place in the first place. This happened at The Huddle and you are doing it here.

You are taking a stand because of a laugh emoji? That is sad, man.

And I’m sure you will ban me for this. And if so it’s a hill I’m willing to die on. And if this is it for me here, I love all you guys. Been a big part of my life for a lot of years. I’m in northern Wisconsin and there are a few here @gianmarco that know how to get a hold of me.

I will buy any of you a beer. And you can take that to the bank brochacho amigos……….
