**Official 2014 MLB Regular Season-All over but the shouting (2 Viewers)

This is as good a time as any for someone to explain the logic of the outdoor stadium in Minnesota. They know they have to play outside in April and, Lord willing, late October... right?

ETA: I guess my real question is why no retractable roof? Your neighbors in Milwaukee seem to have gotten that one right.
Even the Yankees didnt wanna spend the extra money on a retractable roof.

How many home games per year are unbearably cold? I'd bet the under at ten. I don't think that justifies the extra $80-$100M expense of a retractable roof. An even bigger factor IMO is the ambiance of a dome for baseball. I've been to games at Miller Park on a nice summer night with the roof open. It still feels and sounds a bit enclosed. No matter how skillful the architect is, the structural requirements of the roof dictate a design that's more enclosed than a baseball-only stadium should be.
Yeah, I think this is the argument. Supposed to to be 70 again on Monday. It's been a weird winter/spring too, but maybe that's the norm now.

Plus, we're manly men. We eat sausages and drink beer in shorts in this ####.

Manly men or not, baseball isn't meant to be played on a frozen tundra. Maybe send another team down to Cappy in FLA?

Springer getting the call for the 'stors
I thought they were supposed to be waiting until June to keep an extra year of team control or something like that?
The June date is to prevent super two eligibility. I think this is becoming less of an issue with top young players because the trend is for teams to sign them earlier to deals that buy out their arb and initial FA seasons.

I actually think that the Twins did not know that they would have home games in April.

Was I stupid for not grabbing Springer immediately? I feel like just about everyone not named Pujols or Trout has some struggles in the beginning.

As long as Houston plays him it's tough seeing anything worse than Chris Young 2007-2011.

Seems like hes close to a lock to be a 20/20 with a low batting avg this year. Thats how Id value him.

Field is heated.
Is it really? This changes everything.
What advantages does the underground heating system at Target Field give you? And how does it compare to other Major League Baseball ballparks in cold-weather cities?

The technology is out there to get fields ready for Opening Day, it's just that every team doesn't have it, so we're fortunate to have a heating system. There's growth lights, there's translucent tarps that lets light and air through … the technology is there for extending the season on both ends, and we're fortunate that we have that. There's no reason that that couldn't be done in other cities as well, it's just changing the infrastructure in those stadiums. I would say Chicago and Detroit have the biggest challenges, more so than we did.
Suck it, Chicago and Detroit.

If the choice is diminished atmosphere in retractable roof stadium or a couple snow days/cold weather games in an open air stadium, I'd take the latter every single time.

I have a feeling that I, and many of the Latin American players, would disagree with you on it being "a couple" cold weather games. Pretty sure I'd be in a parka in Minnesota until early June. You silly people and your arctic living conditions.

Those plasmas above the urinals didn't pay for themselves...

I didn't realize Springer was relatively old for a prospect. He's six months older than Starlin Castro who already has over 2600 MLB PAs under his belt.

Yeah, he's a college kid. Makes some of the talk about whether or not this will count as a year of service moot. He'll either be 30 or 31 before he's a FA.

There hasn't been a star player named George since Georges Brett and Bell retired in 1993.
Posada?
My bad I read it as all star. As bug a yank homer

George ≠.Jorge ≠. Horrhay

Ken Griffey Jr.'s real first name is George but I'm not counting him either.
My bad I read that as all star. Even a huge yank homer would agree he's not a star
Posada was a much better player than George Bell was. Posada is probably top 20 all-time at his position. If we put our heads together, we could easily name 20 contemporaries of Bell who were better OF.

Safeco is a good example of a field that has a roof, but still feels perfectly like a baseball stadium when the roof is open.

However, it also isn't totally enclosed, so I have no idea how that would work in the cold weather of the Northeast or Minnesota in April/October.

Yeah, but what about Bell at 2B?

So hard to be a fan of this franchise sometimes. Can't imagine how hard it is for Felix. I saw this is like the 17th time in the last 4 years that Felix has gone 7 with 1 or 0 runs and the team ends up losing the game. Has any top tier pitcher ever have to endure such mediocrity from the rest of his team? If he had a halfway decent supporting cast he wins over 20 games a year easily, probably has one or two more cy youngs, is talked about as one of the best pitchers of his generation and it's only a formality of being inducted into the HOF. Just crazy.

most of those things are true anyway IMO

Some of these hitters should be sitting on that first pitch, get it over, slow curve that pitchers seem to be throwing more and more. If you're looking for that sucker you could do some damage.

:goodposting: Chris Sale maybe, but he's not quite in the same tier as Felix
