Throwing the ball around the infield after a strikeout is kind of a weird thing when you think about it.
I've wondered why this is a thing my entire life. In little league I asked my coach why we did it and he said "just because."Thanks, skip.
Makes sense in little league. If the other team isn't putting the ball in play you need to keep the defense involved and alert.

Hummmm Baby

I kinda like the throwing the ball around. In a sport that hates showing the other guy up, I've always seen it as a mild form of showboating that nobody acknowledges. I like it. Baseball needs more showboating. In a mano y mano sport, these guys shouldn't have to supress the urge to show the other guy up from time to time. This is a seemingly respectful way for them to do it without having to call it showboating.

It's like the whole infield saying "Heyo!! Have a seat son" and "We're getting bored out here watching you sissies strike out"

I know nobody will agree, but that's how I see it.

I don't hate it at all, just wondered why they do it.

I guess keeping little leaguers sharp makes sense, doubt the pros need it though.

That's behind my showboating theory. They don't need to stay sharp. They are just dancing on the grave of a failed AB.

It also takes the next batter like 2 minutes to get up to the plate. Gives everyone something to do or look at while we wait

Not about staying "sharp" ... about staying loose. Nothing is worse for readiness than getting back on your heels. Professional or not, it's human nature.

Cubs / Reds game

Top of the 7th, 1-2-3 inning with each out being 3-1. Don't see that every day.

Then the descendants of Joe Tinker butchered the 7th inning stretch. Thankfully don't hear that every day.
