You don't enjoy vids like those?

I think they show why sports a great. Look at the KC crowd, that is awesome.
I think it's honestly kind of odd the fascination soccer folks seem to have taking video of themselves watching games.

Sure, it's nice to see a bunch of happy people. But no where near "chills" or "tearing up".

People are serious about tearing up for these?

ETA -- Here's your 2014 NFC Championship Gamel. You can find this for every year for every sport if you want.

How do you muster the energy to get out of bed every day knowing you're dead inside Joe??? ;)

Love the insight from the longtime footy guys in here. Meant to ask this before the game started.. whats the story behind the shirtless soccer avatar shtick?

For Joe, this is the kind of game that puts the lie to possession statistics. The Algerian strategy is akin to a boxer doing the rope-a-dope. Belgium will carry the play but Algeria will look to make the most of the breakaways that they get. It may look bad statistically but it's basically a strategy of holding your positioning and forcing Belgium to be very precise in order to break them down.

These videos exist for all sports.

It is kind of sad in a way that you think it is odd people are enjoying themselves.

This Belgian team has the potential to be very good for a very long time:

Courtois -- 22 yo

De Bruyne -- 22 yo

Fellaini -- 26 yo

Dembele -- 26 yo

Hazard -- 23 yo

Lukaku -- 21 yo

Januzaj -- 19 yo

Witsel -- 25 yo

Chadli -- 24 yo

Alderweireld -- 25 yo

Even Kompany and Vertonghen are only 28 and 27 yo, respectively. In fact, other than Van Buyten at 36 yo, Kompany is the oldest at 28. And their oldest/most experienced players are all in the defensive unit, which is how I'd like my team to be composed.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a very, very deep run in this year's tournament and they should be a huge force in 2018.
Van der wiel is the goods, also.

Maybe they do. I've just never seen them referred to like soccer folks do. Seems like the futbolguys are more interested in taking video of fans watching fans than other sports are. Just an observation.

Common in everything. It is just the technology we have now that everything can be recorded and posted instantly.

How anyone can think this is soccer only is very strange to me.

Joe hates America.

Oh boy, Belgium in big big trouble as Algeria is like the Switzerland of Africa - they'll really park the bus I bet.

-QG
They were pretty much parking the bus even before they scored. Now it will only get worse.
 - totally disagree with the ESPN announcers saying this will open things up.

Very much see a USA-Ghana scenario. The question is will Belgium have more patience than the Ghanaians.

This.

Odd to me to think it's odd.

Very unlikely but I'll take +120 odds thanks.

No takers. Care to step up or counter it?

Apparently everyone agrees with me.
Sure. You said "Very unlikely". That's probably 10:1. But I'll go with Rude and offer $20 at 5:1.

J
You're not even in the ballpark. You're asking me to pay $100 for something that's worth $16-18.

You're mixing up opinion with price. My opinion is subjective; anyone can look up price.

In the possession stat, does it include time out of bounds?

Like yesterday, every time Howard killed 30 seconds taking a free kick, did that effect our possession stat?

Next time look up the price before spouting off? ;)

Don't have that one - but this one is ALWAYS handy - if you have second you should watch it.

Exists in everything, but broadcasted WAY more often here than in any other sport I've seen before.

Not that I see why you guys are being so defensive about it, as it doesn't seem like a bad thing so much as just an observation.

Calling it odd that people are enjoying themselves hardly seems positive to me but YMMV.

The college football threads have posted a ton of vids like this. I have seen them for other sports in other threads as well.

The US Ghana game broke the WatchESPN record. 1.4 million viewers made it the most watched event ever on WatchESPN.
I think this says more about the technology and the time of the game than anything about soccer. People don't watch online if they can just watch it on TV.
Of course. But the TV numbers look fantastic as well so it is really a combination we need to look at.
