*Official 2015 Philadelphia Eagles* - Winning when it doesnt count (2 Viewers)

No one should bring up the Oline when talking about QB play. There are only two QBs that have had better protection than Sam so far this season, so strike that excuse from any argument you make.
Thats not quite right. The Oline is ranked 8th in pass pro currently. They are ranked #32 in run blocking. I bring them up in arguments because when Foles was here they were ranked #1 in pass pro and #2 in run blocking. That makes an enormous difference and totally affects QB play.

Also, those are based on measurables like sacks. That doesn't take into account the amount of drive-crushing penalties this line has produced. Use your eyes-are you really gonna say that this line has been performing at a high rate?

Kaepernick/V. Davis for Sanchez/Bradford/V. Curry/2nd rd

Who says no? Why so?
If muppet face is the QB of the Eagles next year I'll be fully on board with The Union.
I don't like him as a pocket passer at all. Kelly made it obvious he wanted Mariota. That didn't happen. Kaep is the closest thing. Even though every QB not named Foles has flamed out under Kelly in the NFL, I can see Kaep working perfectly.

Is Kaep even a good passer outside of the pocket? It seems all he can really do is run. He's very inaccurate and a terrible decision maker. How would that be a good fit for Kelly?

ummm, I thought they traded the second rounder in the Bradford deal.

ETA Aren't both Sanchez and Bradford in final year of contract?

Sounds perfect  I'm kidding. Kaep in an uptempo/ read-option offense?? You don't see the fit? This offense is boring without those elements.

Vinny Curry is also a UFA next year.

Kapernick's contract is structured in that his base salary is guaranteed as of 4/1 every year. IMO, if SF trades him, it will be between February and April next year to lessen cap hit. (And to maximize number of suitors)

I agree with Fred, I don't see his read option ability that great and SF has had to put some other designed runs in for him.

I don't think either are a great fit but if I had to pick a retread "name" QB to fit into his system, I'd go with RG3 over Kapernick.

You're not resigning Bradford. Sanchez isn't the answer. What's the play?
Identify a QB in the draft and attempt to make it happen. That's truly the ONLY answer if we want this fixed.

Bringing up a point made on 97.5 and I think it's a good one: watching Ariens coach Arizona they had a really good point. Three guys on that team that are serious playmakers would never be on a Chip Kelly team. John Brown--too small. Christ they took Huff over him. Honey Badger--wrong culture and Chris Johnson who's making peanuts this year and eating Murray's lunch.

This is the part of Chip that scares me the most. Whenever he goes on about football players being like navy seals--give me a break. It's insulting to the military. I get it but seals actually will die for one another for the sake of a mission. It's just not corect to compare athletes (who are in essence entertainers) to actual service people that lose life and limb. Compounding that, you have just under 1700 people on the active rosters of the 32 teams. 1700 out of 7 BILLION gifted enough to play at the nfl level. Do you think that rare of a talent might sometimes have an ego with it? I'm sick of this guy wanting all honor students and Eagle Scouts. If I gotta hear one more time about Jordan Mathews showing up at 7 am to work out on the Juggs machine, I'm gonna vomit. This guy is a #3. Yeah, he brought his notebook to his interviews, he's a great guy and probably steps out of the shower to p!ss. He doesn't cut it as a number one!

This is on Chip the GM and because of it, I'm losing sight of wether Chip the coach is any good.

The idea that he's a #1 is laughable anyway. A #1 that only runs slot routes is not a #1. Unless he's Welker or Edelman and he ain't that.

Kaep is intriguing because of the run option that defenses would have to worry about. But his passing is the worst in the league. Maybe even counting backups. Plus he has an expensive contract.

As for RG3, no way. He's made of glass. Wouldn't last a game.

Yep. We all know this--Good QB's aren't available. Sanchez, Bradford, Kaep, RG3 etc. These guys all have something wrong, and that's why you can get them

The only way to truly fix the QB spot is to get one and never let him leave.

I know how you feel about Sam but I really want to see how he looks after the bye before I write him off.

Honey badger, Johnson and Brown weren't good enough to be picked by any team besides Arizona...you need to keep that in mind. Every team had a shot at those guys numerous times and saw the same as Chip possible.

Double that down for Chris Johnson

Youre reading way to much into the military aspect as well but you seem to get it toward the end of paragraph 2. NFL talents are elite athletes much like Navy Seals are elite as far as military goes.

The boyscouts comment makes me laugh a little--Its so typical Philly. You cant win in this city. If he has boyscouts or Greg Hardy's it doesn't matter, Philly will find a way to hate ANY type of player there is.

For sure

Mariota is the 'Andrew Luck' of this system. Bradford is trying to emulate what Mariota is doing in Tenn, but it just 'looks' completely off. Kaep was another that was born and bread in this style of offense. He has to be then next to perfect match for Chip's system.

I'm not sure if Wash makes that trade with us being in the division.

SF should be trying to get something out of Kaep right? We're not resigning Bradford. We've already sold our souls to this system. Why not shake it up and see what running threat could actually do? We run 4 plays, it shouldn't be too hard to make the adjustments during a bye.

In what way?

Kapernick is a horrible QB. I don't care if he can run or not.

For all Bradford's flaws, he is still better than Kaepernick.

This. As I said earlier, they're better off putting Ryan Mathews at QB if they just want a guy who can run, but can't read defenses or throw the ball. Kaep is absolutely horrible. And he's getting worse each year.

Throw short- intermediate all game

But he's not better than Bradford. According to that link, Bradford has more completions, more yards, more TDs per game. And its funny, as much of a great runner as Kaep is, he's averaging 3 more carries, 28 yards and .1 TD's per game more than Bradford. meh

On a per attempt basis, Kaep is better. And he's played better teams at a glance.

The run threat is not meh to me. It would open up a lot more options for the offense.

He has 46 more completions on 72 more attempts. Not seeing the issue with the comparison. One throws less and runs more. They have a similar td-int ratio despite two different systems. Kaep takes more sacks though by far. Don't know if that's him running around keeping it alive or bad oline. Seems pretty similar though passing wise adjusted for volume.

Kaep's current regression rate is enough for me to not even consider him if he was cut and only wanted a little bit of money. You have to throw the ball with your QB to sustain success in this league and he is terrible at it and getting worse. The league has figured him out and he will only get slower. If we were to make a deal for him it could be a Bradford trade all over again.

Our team (to me) just looks like it needs a week off. If our D gets 100% healthy after the bye and Sam improves even slightly we can do some damage IMO. The rhythm of this team is being KILLED by so many things that look correctible

I'm sure Chip would just love Kaep and his straight brimmed cap and Dr Dre earphones hanging around his neck 24/7. I hope the Eagles keep striving to find the answer at quarterback, I just hope they don't go backwards with that bum.

I'll take the sacks over the picks. Déjà Vu

Like I said, its a long season and you guys are in o.k. shape. Honestly, you have a back up that is probably better than your starter. How many teams can say that?

Yes, it was stupid to offer Kelly the GM job as that almost never works out well, but you guys have a good team. There is a lot of talent to work with there.
It was a dumb signing and a waste of money.
It was dumb to backup an injury prone starter with a competent backup?
Never should have signed Murray. The offered Mathews before Murray.
Now with Mathews hurt, would hate to only have Sproles as our only RB.
Never said Philly shouldn't have signed another back. I've always felt Mathews was the better fit and they could have spent the money elsewhere. When it was announced Murray was going to Philly many people in this thread thought they would not sign Mathews.
What "other back" do you suggest? Murray was there, we had the money, we thought it would work, and went for it. Also took him away from where he likely would have signed if we didn't take him.... Dallas.
RB is the easiest skilled position to replace. How about drafting a RB or picking up a FA over paying Murray and Mathews?

I could see Kaep playing better in a system that fits his skill set. Bradford has done nothing in the league for me to defend or suggest he could play better. Lemons don't usually turn into lemonade in this league. A week off isn't going to have us looking like we can hang with GB, Ari, Sea, a healthy Dallas.... or Stl in a playoff setting.

Chip clearly doesn't mind getting rid of players. Why not now?

If bradford doesn't pick it up he will be gone. I'm pretty sure chip won't sign him long term with what we have seen so far

I'm sure Chip would just love Kaep and his straight brimmed cap and Dr Dre earphones hanging around his neck 24/7. I hope the Eagles keep striving to find the answer at quarterback, I just hope they don't go backwards with that bum.
Believe me I don't want Kaep at all. I think the stats just show how bad Bradford has really been. We "know" Kaep is terrible and can't play QB but Bradfords numbers are about even with his minus the rushing. So why are we hoping for a drastic change? I guess because what choice do we have. I'm losing faith in Chip altogether. His GM skills have been poor despite the few bright spots (Hicks, Mathews, Barwin, Jenkins). So I don't have much faith with him learning on the fly.

Personally, I'm hoping the line continues to improve, Bradford eliminates his terrible red zone decisions/throws, and the receivers stop dropping balls at a historic pace. I'm curious to see how the offense does after the bye. Chip is supposed to be an offensive genius. I want to see what he comes up with. Obviously he can't do much about the drops or Sam's bad red zone play, but I think(hope) he can make adjustments to sharpen how they look in general.

Yea but drops happen. The Pats had 10 drops on Sunday and 16 rushing yards. They still won 30-23. Now Brady is the GOAT but still everyone deals with drops. Demaryius, Julio and Edelman all are top 5 in drops on the year. I'd say it's the lack of Yac that's as much of a detriment as the drops.

We'll they also get thrown at 20 times a game. Mathews gets what 6-7 targets a game and drops 2. That sucks

drops happen, but the Eagles have more drops this year than any team since 2007. Stop blowing it off like it's typical and isn't having a huge impact on Bradford's stats and in killing Philly's drives. I know that it doesn't play in well with your anti-Bradford agenda, but a record setting drop rate is killing this team.

Yea but drops happen. The Pats had 10 drops on Sunday and 16 rushing yards. They still won 30-23. Now Brady is the GOAT but still everyone deals with drops. Demaryius, Julio and Edelman all are top 5 in drops on the year. I'd say it's the lack of Yac that's as much of a detriment as the drops.
drops happen, but the Eagles have more drops this year than any team since 2007. Stop blowing it off like it's typical and isn't having a huge impact on Bradford's stats and in killing Philly's drives. I know that it doesn't play in well with your anti-Bradford agenda, but a record setting drop rate is killing this team.
Oh well then poor Nick Foles needs a hug since the Rams are 2nd in dropped pass rate and Eagles are 3rd by the official numbers.

So hey lets have a pity party.

Seriously, lets go grab a wanna be thug that gets worse every season because he can run fast. Brilliant.

So he should acquire a crappy QB to prove he's not racist? The draft is the only option to find a potential upgrade to Bradford. OL in the early rounds and hope to get a mid round QB to develop.

Not to be a cynic but isn't that what we've said the last 2 drafts? Will Chip adjust his haphazard draft style?

Oh I'm sorry if your delicate little psyche is weaker than our Qb's where someone who's a lifelong Eagles fan can't criticize an underachieving 3-4 squad when they're playing like ####.

I think they're playing like crap too. But I can see all the areas where they're lacking. You have such a hard on for Bradford that you're blind to everything else. You sound like he stole your girlfriend.

lifelong horrible Eagles fan.I didn't see anything positive from you when they won 3 out of 4. Still whining the whole time. You're just a bitter miserable dolt who logs on each day to share your misery with each everyone. Never a positive thing to say. Worst type of fan there is.

No buy he stole my team's offense. Where did it go?
it slipped through the receivers' hands at a record setting pace.

So then Atlanta and St Louis on an even more record setting pace then?
