*Official 2015 Philadelphia Eagles* - Winning when it doesnt count (4 Viewers)

I'd like to think that you can be a fan without being hypercritical.
Don't tell that to the 6-0 Packer fans.
I'm watching in that thread. It isn't even CLOSE to the same level. They aren't freaking out about how bad the team is, how they are hopeless, how they've made this mistake or that mistake, saying how awful player X is over and over bitterly. The main negatives in there are along the lines of "wow we are getting killed. Can forget about this one and move on to carolina".
Pick another team
:fishing:

This is pretty much our season. On paper, we should bury this team. We're coming off a bye, they played a tough home game and lost. They have they're 3rd string QB in and a banged up Dez outside. Their running game is in shambles. Our defense has been playing lights out. Our offense should have been able to take the time off to get things straightened out and come out guns blazing for the 2nd half of the season. Plus out team was embarrassed week 2. This should be a big Revenge game.

Final Score: Eagles 34 Cowboys 12

Do or die. I don't want to even think about what life will be like if we lose this.
I agree with some of this, including your main point about this game being pretty much our season. Not really sure we should bury them. What is the opening line on the game? First off, it's in Dallas and they barely just lost to a very tough Seattle team. Secondly, since their bye, their running game has looked the best it has all year. Over 200 yards against the Giants and 120+ yesterday against a very good defense. And Dez looked healthy to me. Was in on just about every snap. Richard Sherman rendered him ineffective, but he does that to everyone.

Our biggest advantages are the bye and the absence of Romo. They still have a very good defense and Hardy is going to have Bradford jittery again. Peters will need to step up and really protect the blind side. Murray had to have been embarrassed in week 2 against his old teammates. Hopefully, he does much better.

I think this will be a low scoring game. Thinking 20-13, Eagles. Could come down to Sturgis or a key turnover.

Hopefully less miserable for you then it would be if we win (but don't look good enough doing so) :P

I'm glad you're back on the wagon for a week. We are going to torch Dallas and it will be nice to hear you happy again.

I'm sensing a SLP-esque reminder from 2008. 44-6.

Re: NFC East race, the Eagles are facing the easiest slate in terms on overall winning percentage. As it stands currently, just two of their remaining opponents (Arizona and New England) have winning records.

PHI opponents = 32-34 (.484)

NYG opponents = 34-21 (.618)

DAL opponents = 31-24 (.563)

WAS opponents = 31-26 (.543)

Opening line is Philly -3.

Their running game has for sure looked good. The only thing is, it's ONLY McFadden. And if he cools down, they'll have nothing going. Our Run D needs to play much better then it did against Carolina though, there's no way we can give up 200+ yards on the ground and expect to win the game.

I think Murray comes out alive in this game. The first "revenge game" was totally brutal. I think being back in that building is going to get something going for him though. Around 20 for 100 for him.

Yeah, I figured the line would be close. I think Seattle is the best team in the NFC right now. Them or Arizona. Green Bay hasn't impressed me much recently. Anyway, Seattle was lucky to get out of Dallas with a win. I'm just hoping Chip came up with some cures during the bye week. I'll take a 3-2 win next week. Just want to beat another divisional opponent.

I dont think so at all. Seattle has a lot of holes as well. If Romo was there, Seattle loses that game easy. If ilson isn't doing enough to win games but they're winning some. Had they lost that game, they'd have been 3-5 with Arizona at 6-2. They needed to gut out a win against a crippled Cowboy team with Cassell at QB.

They're not that good.

I think Seattle is better then advertised. I know their wins havent been vs good teams, but look at their losses. Their losses came to teams with a combined record of 23-4. Before yesterday, their only losses were to a divisional rival with a tough d and the best qb in the league, and THREE undefeated teams (18-0) That's pretty nuts. Can't really judge them until they start to play some middle of the row teams I guess, but I think Seattle is a tough team.

They're not nearly as good as the previous two years, but they are still dangerous. The good thing is, they'll have trouble earning home playoff games. There's no team in the NFC that scares me. The Cowboys with Romo might be the best. That's why we need a good lead on them when he gets back.

Bringing up a point made on 97.5 and I think it's a good one: watching Ariens coach Arizona they had a really good point. Three guys on that team that are serious playmakers would never be on a Chip Kelly team. John Brown--too small. Christ they took Huff over him. Honey Badger--wrong culture and Chris Johnson who's making peanuts this year and eating Murray's lunch.

This is the part of Chip that scares me the most. Whenever he goes on about football players being like navy seals--give me a break. It's insulting to the military. I get it but seals actually will die for one another for the sake of a mission. It's just not corect to compare athletes (who are in essence entertainers) to actual service people that lose life and limb. Compounding that, you have just under 1700 people on the active rosters of the 32 teams. 1700 out of 7 BILLION gifted enough to play at the nfl level. Do you think that rare of a talent might sometimes have an ego with it? I'm sick of this guy wanting all honor students and Eagle Scouts. If I gotta hear one more time about Jordan Mathews showing up at 7 am to work out on the Juggs machine, I'm gonna vomit. This guy is a #3. Yeah, he brought his notebook to his interviews, he's a great guy and probably steps out of the shower to p!ss. He doesn't cut it as a number one!

This is on Chip the GM and because of it, I'm losing sight of wether Chip the coach is any good.
I strongly disagree with this. For every low character talented player that works out well, there's another that brings a team down. That's not to say you shouldn't research and be SURE that the guy with a sketchy background/history is really a low character guy, but after watching talented hotheads drag one team after another down I can't blame any coach for trying to avoid them. Some short memories here. I still cringe thinking about TO and situps in his driveway
At the time, I was totally against TO. Thought he was just another JO that was too big for his britches. But in hindsight, Banner totally screwed him in that deal with his previous agent. We probably should have adjusted his contract and kept him an Eagle. Could you imagine a happy TO and McNabb combo from 05-10?Hindsight of course but sometimes you have to adjust your coaching style to allow for some leeway.
TO was very rarely happy for long wherever he went, and I don't think he could have ever been happy with Donovan. For whatever reason, he just didn't like him.
According to a teammate that was close to McNabb, he was the most insecure player he had ever played with at any level. Like storm out of the locker room when other great NFL QB performances were discussed level insecurity. McNabb was terribly jealous of the adulation TO received upon arrival and success. The entire stadium was singing the TO song for crying out loud. Any wonder McNabb told him to shut the **** up when he came back to the huddle claiming he was open? Any wonder McNabb endorsed Westbrook when asked about TO absence in the wake of his injury? Great leadership 5. He didn't lead at all. A leader knows the strengths and weaknesses of the men under his charge and gets the best out of them. Was TO a petulant, immature man child? Absolutely. Did he need to be coddled? Most likely. But McNabb's insecurity and jealousy wouldn't allow it.As a fan, I feel robbed of the 05-10 experience you spoke of. 2004 was probably my favorite year as a fan. It was incredible in every way until Roy Williams broke TO's ankle. I find it ironic and sadistically pleasing, now that McNabb is retired and desires HOF adulation, that his induction would likely have been secured had he supported and played with a healthy TO as his career came to a close.
Let's say Donovan was a horse's ###. I can buy that. The fact remains that issues flocked around T.O. wherever he went. In S.F., in Philly, in Dallas. I don't think you should feel robbed about 2005 to 2010 because the Eagles were never going to be able to keep T.O. that long. Things probably would have blown up in 2006 when he had to play with Jeff Garcia again. T.O. was the ultimate man/child playing football: $1 million talent/Ten cent brain. He was his own worst enemy.

They needed to gut out a win against a crippled Cowboy team with Cassell at QB.They're not that good.
They're not nearly as good as the previous two years, but they are still dangerous. The good thing is, they'll have trouble earning home playoff games. There's no team in the NFC that scares me. The Cowboys with Romo might be the best. That's why we need a good lead on them when he gets back.
Which is why its imperative that we bury them at 2-6. That way even Romo can't bring them back.
Yup, I agree. Can't lose this one.
DALLAS WEEK: When Eagles fans who love the eagles, and Eagles fans who hate the eagles, unite to hate the Cowboys together.
Yes you can suspend your hidden hate for a week.

Can Tampa beat the Giants?
They just won in the Georgia Dome. Any given Sunday, right? And, it's not like the NYG D is playing lights out

:cough: 52 points :cough:

ETA - The game is @TB. NYG is 1-3 on the road.

Line is NYG -1.

But seriously no. Giants win 38-17.
You are likely correct. NYG desperately needs the game. They are facing NE in week 10 and would be staring at a 3-game losing streak and a 4-6 record if they drop one to the Bucs. I do think they play well enough to win it.

Of course, ATL was a huge home favorite this last week, and the Bucs have shown some life (especially offensively).

I will be at this game. If that score happens I will prob get my ### kicked cause I will be the most obnoxious annoying fan the cowboyz have ever seen

It would be a nice acquisition. For starters, he has good hands. Secondly, he's tough as nails. Not really something I'd consider anyone currently in our receiver crew. But mostly, he's a solid veteran. Our young guys would benefit greatly from his experience.

Agreed. Consummate pro for Agholor/Matthews/Huff to learn from. Good hands, tough guy on a team that could use more toughness. Can't imagine his price tag is really high, either.

I think that boldin can be good for this year, but wouldn't Tate be more useful as a guy who can get deep?

I guess if agholor can't really go, then it would help to have the depth anyway.

Talk CLE willing to move C Alex Mack and T Joe Thomas. Curry's name coming up again, this time from Tim McManus:

"A couple thoughts on Vinny Curry: I believe the Eagles are open but not overly-motivated to trade him. They likely recognize that the odds of re-signing him after this season aren't tremendous, and wouldn't mind getting something for him rather than just allowing him to walk out the door at season's end. At the same time, he has value to the 2015 club -- particularly as a pass-rusher. I don't see a deal going down unless the Eagles find a suitor who is willing to hand over at quality player at a position of need (like offensive line, say) that is a system fit, or a relatively high pick. Given that Curry is not under contract beyond this season, would any team be willing to do that?"

Looks like Kap might be available now too for all those of you who want him
Serious question: when is the last time a QB played poorly (for more than a couple games as a 1st or 2nd year guy) for one team and then went on to play very well for another?

Probably Kurt Warner when he sucked for the Giants then played well with Arizona
Yea but he had Stl and a Super Bowl in his back pocket.

Kaepernick is in his 5th year and he has been a pretty decent player. I think he would fit like a glove in Chip's offense and open up the running game big time with the read option. But to answer your question, a guy like Steve Young comes to mind. Pretty awful in Tampa and then went to San Fran and became a HOFer.

True, But personally, when I saw how horrible he was with the Giants, I wrote him off as a product of the Mike Martz system in St Louis. His 'second career' in Arizona proved me wrong. It took me by surprise.

Man, I really can't stand the guy. The way he dresses and carries himself. Just comes off as a punk. But I'm not going to lie, his running ability in Chips offense is intriguing. But in the end, you still have to complete passes. He is such a horrible passer. Plus, mentally, I'm not sure he's up to the task. But again, it's intriguing.

Gannon comes to mind. Journeyman, demoted to 3rd string in MIN, washed out in DC, then NFL MVP in Gruden's WCO the year they went to the SB.

Rare, but it happens.

Hey, maybe we can wait until he gets demoted to 3rd string and get him at an even better price!

JFC, we can bash Foles, Bradford etc but talk ourselves into this bum. Unreal.
