Did you not read the multiple posts about teams adjusting to an offense and coach they have never seen before?

If it was a one year only comparison after he made those moves then yes he would fail. If you give him an option to build his own roster and he goes with younger players then usually they start slow as rookies and trend up. Older players you let go eventually trend down. Jackson. Has already started, McCoy has some juice left but not quite what he was.

I'm not following on the Jackson mistake, Maclin came back from an ACL and took over his position and put up better numbers than Jackson's 2013 season and much better than his 2014 in Washington?

That seems crazy high to pay him, but when you consider guys like Cutler and Tannehill are making that, it makes more sense.

He gets paid a lot but only for a year. No long term lock in. Then you can franchise him one more time after that. Guards against the injury worry and doesn't commit to him long term. There's no worry about destroying future cap. Just fit it in now and be done with it. This way if he doesn't show progress next year, no big deal. Move on.

A 3 year deal would be the sweet spot, with a reasonable out after 2 years. With his injury history you have to bring in a good backup or draft a developmental option.

Every year for the last 15, Redskin fans have to hear the fans of the cowboys, goants, and Eagles talking about the playoffs and division titles. For once, the division is so horrible that a .500 redskins team is going to sneak in for a first round ### whooping. So of course they're running their mouths. Skins fans do whatever they can to justify him as some stud they stole from the Eagles but the reality is they are way better this year when he missed most the year than last year when he played. He's flashy and fun to watch every 3rd game but not the game changer they want him to be.

The Skins offense was lousy this year without Reed and without Jackson. Reed coming back opened up the middle of the field for the offense. Jackson coming back took the lid off the field. Defenses could no longer defend the Skins by playing against only short passes and runs. I believe Jackson leads the league is plays of 20 yards or more, and he hasn't played a whole season. I don't like or dislike him as a person. I just see what he did for the Skins offense this year. The whole field opens up when he's playing, and you can see it in the increased offensive output.

edited to add: Whether the Eagles should or should not have dropped Jackson is something I don't care about. That's the Eagles' mess. I'm just glad he was available, because he's been quite a help to the Skins and to Cousins in particular.

I think I just get fatigued by the biased efforts to make a 600 yard receiver this year sound amazing and that he is a reason for Chip's "downfall". While he clearly fills a role on the Skins Reed is the beast not him. Also just the fact that Skins/Eagles will finish a couple games apart and it's some amazing season for the Skins and the Eagles are considered a disaster. That speaks to the state of both franchises in recent decades that a game or 2 apart is viewed so differently. I guess I just don't get all the Chip doom and gloom when his worst season is one the Skins would have been excited about after last year.

- McCoy for Alonso - I think this we can mark up as a mistake, but we'll see if Alonso can improve next year. He was horrific this year, but no one saw that coming. I would still be ok with this move if we had used the cap space we saved from McCoy on WR or OL - the fact that makes it so bad is we used it on Murray, which was obviously a mistake.

- The Murray pickup - obviously this was a bad one. No question about that.

- Bradford - gotta mark this up as a good one. Foles has been absolute rubbish for St Louis - which sucks, I was rooting for him to do well, unlike McCoy, he handled being traded with grace and professionalism. I take no personal joy in his failure, but reality is that getting Bradford for a 2nd was a good move. We need to resign him.

- Assorted aging vets let go - almost all of these have proven to be wise moves. Every single again vet, with the possible exception of Trent Cole (32 tackles and 3 sacks is not worth was he was making), has performed poorly.

- Draft picks - this remains to be seen. Agholar has not been good, but we'll see if he can improve - rookie WR's often struggle. No one was slamming the pick when it was made - it wasn't a reach. Hicks was obviously very good. Rowe showed a lot of promise.

Chip as a GM - I'd probably give a C too. Average, and if we chalk this up as rebuilding year, next year is where we'll see if we have improvement or not. Some mistakes, some good moves, some TBD.

Chip as a coach - this honestly is what scares me. Billy Davis needs to be fired, and a competent DC brought in. Can Chip fix this offense? He's supposed to be a football genius junkie - can he sit down this offseason, look at what/why we struggled, and improve? I have no idea.

I think our biggest mistake re: Maclin was not applying the franchise tag. He bet on himself with a one-year deal the previous season, and it paid off. I don't think he would have rolled those dice again - he probably would have worked out a long-term deal at a more reasonable number.

psst they were 4-12 the season before Chip took over. Then won 10 games two years in a row. This year sucked. Overall, going 26-21 in three years,after inheriting a 4-12 team isn't bad. Next year is a big year for Kelly's future here and legacy. It'll be year two of his GM tenure. It'll be interesting to see if he can recognize his bad moves and adapt. But feel free to explain how going from 4-12 to 26-21 is an 'amazingly' bad job. It's always funny to see you actually try to talk about football. Lol

I agree with this. I'm actually leaning more on the side with I don't think Chip will end up as a good coach. However, the jury is still out on that. Yes Chip has regressed each year that he's been in the NFL but Chip the GM has given Chip the coach a complete overhaul this year. I think it would be unfair to only give Chip one year with a new team to make an assessment of whether he's a success or failure. He's at least shown the ability to win. Hopefully there is no more regression next year because that would be a very bad sign.

He's had a rough year but I don't think he's a bad coach. He made some moves he thought would improve the team and they obviously didn't pan out.
