*Official 2015 Philadelphia Eagles* - Winning when it doesnt count (2 Viewers)

Schefter: Pederson expected to be a leading candidate for Philadelphia HC job, per sources. Pederson coached in Philly from 2009-12.

Yeah, heard Doug Pedersen as well. From the Reid coaching tree as a QB/player and coach. The ONLY HC he's ever worked for is Reid (7 seasons). So, we would be familiar with the offensive scheme from day 1.Andy brought him over from GB when he was QB coach there. Favre's backup. Pederson started in Reid's first year here until McNabb was ready. Was a HS coach for 4 years after he retired until Andy brought him back to Philly first as Offensive Quality Control Coach and then as QB coach from '09-'12. Took him along with him to KC, where he's been the in KC under Andy the last three years. Done well with that unit.
I wouldn't do a cartwheel but I wouldn't be mad either.

Lurie, in his press conference discussing the new coach and what he was looking for, mentioned he wants someone who is familiar with Philadelphia and knows what an opportunity it is to represent a passionate fan base like ours. Also hinted directly/strongly at a return to the Reid era. Duce, McDermott, Shurmur, Pederson all fit that bill.

Anyways, interested to see what today brings. In a season with so much turmoil and squandered opportunities still could finish in 2nd place in the NFCE, one game out of first. Assuming we aren't tanking for the pick. Don't mind a higher pick and a 3rd place schedule to avoid SEA/GB but that means we have to go to London. Blah. I always want to beat NY truth be told.

Bradford (in 13.5 games) will finish with a top-5 season in team history in yards, attempts, and some other passing categories. Matthews needs 57 yards to hit 1000. No other WR going to sniff 400 yards. Crazy season.

Probably in the minority and a bit reactionary to Chip but I'd be fine taking a retread who knows how to handle a locker-room (or learn from their mistakes) than take another gamble.

Not really sure how I feel about Pederson. Not like KC has really lit the world on fire offensively in KC but tough to tell with Alex Smith as his QB.

Also, seems like defensive minded coaches seem to translate better than offensive coaches. And might as well try to build an elite defense at this point. 8 of the top 10 defenses (yardage wise) are in the playoffs.

Another point on possibly hiring Adam Gase...Alston Jeffery is a free agent. I have no idea what their relationship was like in Chicago, but there certainly is a familiarity. Would love to get him here.
He's already in contract talks. And he will 100% be franchised if he doesn't sign. It's not even possible we get him.

Draft Goff and you guys will be back in the playoffs. You're not that bad. You're just running an up-tempo offense when you need to be giving Murray the ball 20+ times a game.

Hand it to Chip, Murray will be a great cornerstone to a RUSHING offense.
Yes, would be nice if we could go back in time and lose 3 more games so we have ANY kind of shot at him. We would have been good with Mariota too, what a dumb move not to draft him at #20 last year.

Hey Mice, what do you not like about Gase?
Prefer we go with a defensive minded coach. Nothing against Gase per se, but not overly impressed with what he's done in Chicago this year. Has Cutler been that good? And I do wonder how much of his Denver success rests with personnel like Manning, Thomas, Sanders, etc.

Maybe it's me, but every year there is a 'hot offensive guy' and they seem hit and miss. Plus, as mentioned if our O does very well the OC is likely to be plucked.

That said those in the know seem to rave about his smarts and his youth doesn't scare me off.
I think you misunderstood this. It's actually the opposite. If we get a DEFENSIVE coach, and our offense does well, the OC is likely to be plucked.

If we get a guy like Gase, that means we can keep a guy like Shurmur at OC, and if our offense flourishes, it will be "Gase's offense" that did it, and the guy like Shurmur won't be coveted for a HC job. We get a D guy, and the O flourishes, it will be the OC getting every ounce of praise for our offense.

We need an offensive minded guy.
Disagree. If the offense flourishes, the OC will be in demand. Whoever it is.

Regardless, offense or defense, I just hope Lurie gets the RIGHT guy. I prefer building through defense.
I just don't get how that makes sense. OC's from offensive coaches rarely get respect for running the offense. Our offense looked great 2 years ago, Shurmurs door wasn't getting knocked down. Look at it this way.... if we get McDermott vs Gase, and our offense kicks ###, which scenario is more likely to have the league thinking that Shurmur was the key to our offense and drives his demand up? If it's Mcdermott, Shurmur is the ONLY one responsible for the offense.

I think we need Gase.

Would be awesome if they ran the offense under center this week, stick murray 8 yards back and pound him up the middle for 150 yards lol.
Were on our way fellas!
Still a few minutes behind watching the game so avoiding the game thread for a few minutes. Just saw this... hilarious and incredible. Probably the most satisfying run of DM's career. A big F U to Chip.

yeah, lol. Pederson and Bradford would be the least inspiring combo i could think of
I'd actually prefer Peterson to Gase. Peterson is an offensive guy, who has played and coached in the league and here for a while. He's also familiar with upper management and is pretty young as well. He's not going to be the big splash but he could do well depending on who else he brings in.

Agree that being the OC for the Bears doesn't get me all giddy.
Chicago is 20th in yards per game and 22nd in points per game. And I worry Denver was a top-5 offense based on personnel as much as coaching. In 2013/2014 Peyton was really good, the WRs were outstanding, and the line better than average.
If you're saying Denver was a top 5 offense based on personnel, then Chicago should have been a bottom 5 offense based on personnel. Alshon barely played this year and Forte missed a ton of time too. That offense had very few weapons and he still got cutler to have arguably his best season of his career. Best TD-INT ratio (by a huge margin), and best QB rating of his 10 year career). Would love to see what he could do with Sam.
Agree here. Chicago isn't scaring anyone with personel

Maybe if Sam has a good game though, he'll see that he can still do well outside of "chip's offense". It's still pretty much the same, but it might give him more reason to stay anyways.

perfect pass. But yes, Sam is totally the same as vick/foles and can easily be replaced this offseason :lmao:
I'm OK with the franchise tag. Clearly the best option available going into '16.
Yep. Otherwise it's Sanchez, Major reach in 1st round, or Drew Stanton as your starting QB next year.
I'm curious if the franchise tag will give the team more leverage to reach a longer term deal. If you are Bradford and have been hurt your whole career do you really want to get franchised and only have 1 year security? The odds aren't great the guy is going to play 16 games next year.

It likely would give us some leverage. I'm actually so happy we have the chance to franchise him, because otherwise he would have an insane amount of negotiating power. He's got to know that he's MILES ahead of our next best option. Or if he just doesn't want to be here, he has no choice. I think you have to go into that first meeting telling him he's going to be franchised if he doesn't seem into signing long term.

Lots of Chip to Cleveland talk out there. Wonder if we can franchise Sam and trade him to Cleve for 2 1sts.

In terms of next year, its a good thing we didn't win the division. On the 2 matchup games:

Wash vs Arizona and Carolina
Phi/NYG vs Seattle and Atlanta
NYG/Phi vs St. Louis (london) and TB/NO
Dallas vs San Fran and NO/TB

Kelly and Manziel. Love to see it.
Can't imagine Chip will want to go to such a losing franchise. If he has a couple losing seasons, that might be it for him in the NFL. But if he wants power, that may be a good place to go. Could see him being much more attracted to a place like Miami or Tennessee (only because of MM)

Ok Billy D and the boys, let's keep the second half hijinx going.
Ya this can turn into a WIN WIN now if we lose this game. We saw enough of Sam playing great in the first half, and Murray running well from out of center.... now get the easier schedule and higher pick.

That was the other team that almost hired him initially. ....wouldn't be surprised at all.

If I remember correctly, he was going to likely sign there until we came along and pushed hard for him. If it was his first NFL gig, sure. But this might be his last shot.... like others have said, when they're losing, his personality issues will come out. He probably will be smart and sign somewhere he thinks he can win.

Do you guys think Chip would have drafted Nelson if we had lost to the giants last year and had the #16 pick? Wonder how much of a difference if any it would have made last year.

Didn't realize that last year we lost to Washington Week 16 on a Saturday night, then beat NYG 34-26 in week 17. Could be almost identical this year.

Listening to radio broadcast, saying already begun contract talks with Cox, Curry. Looking to switch to a 4-3. D should be much better next year with a new DC, new scheme. Not to mention the TOP/rest factor.
