*** Official 2019 Dolphins Thread *** That's a wrap...now what do we do with the #5 pick? (1 Viewer)

Is Rosen the backup QB of the future?

The time is right to find out. Maybe the Dolphins get lucky and he's much better than expected. The time was right.
Yes I believe he is.  He’ll know the system and he’ll be cheap enough.

Unless of course someone offers decent picks. If this is the true Patriots model they’ll trade him or get a compensatory pick for him.

I did see Howard mentioned in the Palm Beach Post as potentially being the next guy they try and trade. It's possible they end up with 4 1st round picks to wheel and deal, maybe even another 2nd. Also seems like Kenyan Drake is just a 4th round pick from being gone.

Being they just signed him, I don't see Howard being moved... It'd take the craziest deal yet.

I'm just saying that his face was on the front page, top right corner of a major news paper that has at least a couple prominent writers for the Phins...if it can be done they're doing it. They can eat the signing bonus this year. They are way under the cap.

I don't want to see Howard go but they've stripped this team down to an expansion franchise, maybe worse. I don't want anybody on this team that feels like they need to be somewhere else. I feel bad for almost everyone on this team except Jesse Davis, couldn't be happier for that guy getting $5M a season, he's not worth it but I like his story. Davis is probably the happiest guy on the team IMO.

Feel bad for the rookie Wilkins coming out of Clemson...he was leaping and hugging Goodell on Draft night, this cannot be fun for him.

Howard isn't going anywhere, nor should he be "out there" in a market where Jalen Ramsey is being shopped.  Dolphins, strangely, inquired about ramsey but Jax's ask was too high (multiple 1s).

As horrible as this team has played, I'm still not convinced they're gonna go winless...tooo many games against other bad teams.

I really feel like there'll be another Cleo Lemon to Greg Camarillo moment this year.

As horrible as it would be to go 0-16, we may have to do it to get the first pick.  The Redskins are a horror show too, and they are actually trying.

per @ckparrot  Here are the numbers of teams by win-count over the last 30 years and how many of them got the #1 pick with that record.

4-Win Teams: 1 of 70

3-Win Teams: 6 of 34

2-Win Teams: 12 of 21

1-Win Teams: 9 of 9

0-Win Teams: 2 of 2

2 wins and it's essentially a 50/50 shot to get the first pick.  it would really stink to be 2-14 and have someone worse.

We need WR’s.

Williams can’t catch. Parker is a bum (I could care less what he did today), Wilson is hurt....all the time now.

Also need a real deal multi purpose back. Ballage is terrible. Drake fumbles every week. Walton is ordinary.

So much to do here. It will take a few years.

I think the Dolphins will win that game, based on the first 4 games of the season. Redskins keep getting  worse and now are giving up, not by plan but by lack of hope.
I read a stat today that was something like this:

The Fins are 32 in total D, the Skins are 31.  However, the Skins are closer to the 10th best defense than they are to Miami.  That is how bad we are.  I dont think we can beat any NFL teams, and I honestly believe there are some college teams that would give us a solid run.

Dolphins' next game is against Washington. According to ESPN's FPI (which appears to have been updated Friday), they are the worst 2 teams in NFL. But the gap between Miami and Washington is the same as the gap between Washington and top 10 teams.

Tank done right.
... Also still not convinced they’ll go winless.

Realistically the Dolphins would’ve gone 0-4 before the sell off...

We are horrid. No question. But come on Chuck.

Miami is still scoreless in the 3rd and 4th Quarter of all 4 football games...they have been shutout for 8 quarters of football or 2 whole games.

81-0 in the 2nd half to date...that's gotta be a record for futility to start a season...think about it, not a FG, nothing!!!

You can't really explain it to folks who don't follow or root for the team...they think we're kidding.

Redskins, Broncos, and Bengals all look pretty hopeless.  Maybe should get some more picks for whomever (Drake/Jones?)

Trade deadline...Miami has been ahead of everyone all off season and leading up to it, have some faith they will be ransacked at the trade deadline.

Meanwhile the Redskins sit on Trent Williams and do nothing. He won't play for them (thanks Bruce Allen) and they won't trade him (thanks Bruce Allen). As long as Allen is there they'll never trade him, and the team will do without the draft pick(s) he could bring.

Alabama may not beat us, but they'd keep it close.  Tua, Ruggs and Jeudy would be the best 3 offensive players on the field and I am confident that they have a few OL that would be better than any we have.  Its not a high bar.

I don't believe they're tanking for Tua.  I think they trade the 1st if they get it.  Think about it, what would be more patriots than getting a huge multi - first round haul and someone like Herbert or Fromm. Or if Rosen looks like he might be salvageable, then they can grab the best oline and edge players available.

Also on wrs - Wilson will be back after the bye.  They threw to him on four of the six plays he was on before he reinjured his leg and he had to come off.  If he's on your ww in a ppr league and you need someone he's going to catch a few balls.

Hey old friend, I feel like the Skins sorta missed the chance to trade him. Don't get me wrong, teams can always use a Trent Williams and if I were New England I would make the move. The Skins are not going to get a Tunsil like trade deal IMO, they should have taken his threats seriously. Teams would have traded something decent in Aug going into training camps...right now I'm not sure they would get a 1st although I think the Patriots have the biggest need on OL with the best record so that usually means teams will do things they might not normally try.

I'm guessing you don't live in South Florida or read the Miami Herald, Sun Sentinel, or Palm Beach Post...none of the beat writers or anyone that covers the team has thought anything other than "Tank for Tua" and you can just call it trying to go 0-16, doesn't matter the player you think they might take. They are not doing all this to grab a LT at No 1 and then a RG with Pitt's pick at No 5, that's not happening IMO.

Miami Starting OL this past Sunday for reference...

RT Prince (first NFL start)

RG Boehm (First Dolphins start)

C Kilgore (Vet)

LG Deiter (rookie)

LT Webb (signed month ago)

Winning Recipe for sure

It's weird how both of these are written by the same publisher. I can speak for myself and a good chunk of the fan base...while we have reservations that this could blow up, the aternative of the past 20+ years since basically Marino left have largely sucked donkey weed, so the reality is $125M to spend in the off season, 14 picks in 2020 alone including 3 1st, 2 2nd and plenty of time to figure out how to wheel and deal all those selections. Then they have 2 more 1st and 2 more 2nd round picks in 2021. I agree entirely with the 2nd article, it's going to take 3-5 years to see the fruits of all this but it's likely to end up with a playoff run at some point IMO and this place is starving for recognition. You never see Miami in most of the NFL talk shows which is all First Take and the like run except Basketball when the Super Bowl ends. Entire generations are growing up and never seeing the home town EVER win a playoff game, that's just ridiculous. This was a proud franchise when Shula was running the show and it's mostly languished. The JJ years were mostly smoke screens and hot air minus Taylor and Thomas, a few other bright spots but it's mostly been a dark depressing road with no new chapters.

It hurts to see them so bad but this doesn't feel like the Miami Dolphins, it feels like imposters which the front office wanted. I'm shocked Rashad Jones is still here but he gets paid handsomely to do whatever they tell him if no other team will take on his salary...I think they could just swap players no picks with him right now and Miami would say "OK!" and not because he isn't worth the money but I hate to see a guy who has played hard from the minute he got here have to go thru this towards the end of his career. I'd like him to go anywhere where he could lead a team to the playoffs. The NFC West seems a little top heavy and a guy like Jones could tip the scales, you know the cities. The Chiefs should really think about getting him, even if they had to cut him in the off season, that's a potential Super Bowl team but they need some help on defense.

they've replaced my stress from getting into the playoffs -to- getting the first pick.
Last i saw, the oddsmakers had their 1st pick probability at 70+%. The Bengal game on 12/22 could be decisive.

I'm also a big fan of opponents of the Steelers and Texans.

Biggest game of the season to date coming up. A skins team in total disarray versus the tanking fish. Don’t blow it now Dolphins! we get through this, that late season Cincy game looms large.

next 4 games WAS - at buf - at pit -NYJ  ... combined record 5-14

like murderers row for the tank.
Buffalo is 4-1 and will be coming off a bye when they play Miami.  The Steelers have problems, but they just gave Baltimore all they could handle.  The Jets should presumably have Darnold back.

But yeah, the Washington game is big.  The team's a train wreck, and they figure to be giving a rookie QB his first NFL start.  You guys are looking down the barrel of a W here.

Noooooooooo!!!!!!

Tough game today but Miami got it done by going for 2 late in the game vs extending it into overtime. Worst 2-pt play call in history of the NFL.

Good For Fitzpatrick to get them back into the game. He's dangerous, they need to release him or trade him for nothing.

Miami will play Cincinnati on Dec 22, I don't expect Miami to have to lose that game but CInci is starting to look like a team incapable of winning a football game.

I would like to see almost all teams scrape 2-3 wins by Week 12, it would be nice to see Miami comfortably be able to win one and not jeopardize #1 overall pick.

2 Pt Play

Shouldn't Miami have kicked the XP? I know occasionally teams will go for 2 points but Miami had momentum and closed it in the 4th down 17-3...Overtime wasn't an option?

I know they're 0-4 but how are you ever going to win a game making decisions like this at crucial times?

Go Bolts!
