Official 2019 FBG Subscriber Contest (2 Viewers)

any ways to rename an entry? did this a long time ago, so I dont know if they took that feature away and I'm stuck with the name I chose or what

I am really torturing myself over the Rams backfield for this contest.  I think Gurley gave us a prelude to 2019 at the end of 2018.  I don't trust a single word from the Rams staff, other than he ran fast one time in shorts and a t-shirt, in a straight line.  I also don't think any specific injury caused him to derail, rather it was a cumulative effect finally catching up to him.  He played 190 snaps from weeks 13-15, which were the most in a 3 game span in his entire career.  Does that sound like something a team would do to a star RB that was injured in his previous game?  I think Gurley will be a weekly game time decision, based on how bad his knee feels/flares up.

That being said, I think Brown's $4 is a better value than Henderson's $15.  It just comes down to simple math - when Gurley hits the wall, will Henderson get an 80/20 share of the fantasy points?  I don't think so.  In a redraft league, I will be targeting Henderson and Brown, but I hate cuffing for the contest.  That's the safe play, and safe doesn't get it done.  So, to answer your question in a long-winded post - Yes, I think Henderson will outscore Brown, but not by a 80/20 ratio.
I think you are looking at a best case of 60/40 carries and 80/20 receptions in Henderson's favor, and you're assuming Gurley is or will become definitively toast.

Then again its only $4.

But I'd rather spend $4 on Pollard or Uzama or maybe even Gore.  Jaron Brown was my secret sauce until he got cut lol.

I do like Olsen and Walker to start the season but I have doubts they last long into the season. Witten will be solid but unspectacular. And I just don't even understand how people are still drafting Eifert. I just don't get it. I would take any of the three bolded younger guys over any of the older ones. And it isn't close for me. All three are likely to explode this year (by TE standards).
I'd take Andrews ahead of Eifert, but at the moment I can't refuse Olsen because of the upside of Andrews.

And I'll taken boring Witten over the vague promise of Fant, Herndon and Waller and their respective offenses.

It may be a blind spot, but if Walker doesn't have a recurring or new injury he's still the best weapon for Tannehill / Mariota.

Having troubles with my most recent entry...

4 RBs and 5 wrs. The 5th is a wildcard in DJ Chark so really its 4 wrs.

My 3 TEs provide flex appeal, but still having difficulty trying to tease this out

- Yes, I am predicting Gurley's demise this year.  But alas, I have no nutsack and have chosen not to roster either Henderson or Brown on my most recent entry (which I will post very soon).

- Pollard becomes useless when Zeke signs.  Rod Smith was Zeke's backup and only $3 in last year's contest - he scored a whopping 17.3 points... in the entire 16 weeks.  Money better spent on an extra K or D, or to upgrade an existing player.

- Uzomah is a good call.  You ever watch that movie "Pure Luck" starring Martin Short?  Well, that is Eifert.

- Gore is cheap, but that backfield belongs to Singletary.  Gore will cede touches, until he is basically useless by midseason.  I will be rostering Devin for sure, and I don't want multiple RB's from the same team.  To me, that's playing not to lose, instead of to win.

- Me too on Jaron - that cut was shocking - I have to assume Donkey Kong Metcalf is healthier than I thought.

Trying to free up $6 for a 3rd defense. Have 3 QB with Stafford as the cheapest, could replace him with Jones to free up $6, or could just drop Mattison (RB #6, handcuffing Cook) for $6. I could always make a bunch of small changes, but these are the most obvious.

Currently have:

QB - 3x - $35

RB - 6x - $88

WR - 6x - $63

TE - 3x - $46

K - 3x - $10

D - 2x - $8

I think you're spending too much on your rb1. Hes an injury waiting to happen.

also your wr1 is so weak

I'm not sure about Hockenson. I want him to do well but history isnt on that side.

WRs are interesting. Makes me feel better about mine.

Not sure I'd buy into the KC backfield

Also- Gay and Seibert have the same bye

Thanks. Absolutely know I'm bucking history with Hockenson. I think, in my brief glimpses, that he's that good. Otherwise it's a wasted tenner. I fully am sold on Waller/Herndon as a combo. I welcome the KC backfield and am dumping Monty for Darwin for the five dollars. That way I've got 2/3 of the backfield of a juggernaut. DWill has soft tissue issue and even though I rostered him in another league, I don't think I'm quite the believer yet.

I’d think to free up $9-12 from K/D and upgrade Jacobs or McCoy. I’m just not excited about Oak Rb. Just thinking you could get a stud RB2 with less risk than those 2. Your low dollar RBs on there are good value, popular picks

I am probably going to do something similar at TE in terms of 3 players under 10. There is one out there that I haven’t seen on many rosters but I like a lot.

I like the WR picks. Ridley will be a bit hit or miss but I guess that’s good for bestball

Winston has been on every entry so far, but have swapped out backups a few times.  In the end, I went back to my original duo.  In a perfect world, the 7 bolded players will account for my weekly scores, so I spent quite a bit on them.  IMO Duke is a no-brainer for $9, and I am ecstatic they signed Hyde, who is not as much of a threat as other RB's they could've brought in.  With Shady headed to KC, Singletary will outdistance Gore as the season rolls on.  I chose him more for the end of the contest than the beginning.  Gordon is another must-own.  Too much upside to let a $6 WR pass by.  Can afford to wait on Herndon with Kelce - maybe a flex on a rare occasion.  I am fine with the bye week conflict at kicker, as I believe both would've been at least $5 if Dodds had known who the starter was going to be.  Could only afford 2 low-priced D's, but I am a firm believer that matchups are just as important as the D's you choose.  If I manage to make it to the end, the NYG/NYJ combo faces MIA, MIA, and WAS in weeks 14-16.  Overall, would love to have more depth, but I chose guys who I thought would be consistent weekly scorers.

ok after reading this thread for a month i will put my current roster. so many iterations.

19 players. I try to have my top 2 RB and top 2 WR have 4 separate byes.

i probably don't need a $13 backup to Mahomes and would be more comfortable freeing up some money for a 5th WR, particularly with Gordon as my 4th. i probably will find a way to even get just a $4 WR5, like reynolds or someone who is big if 1 of the 3 Rams WRs get hurt. Also I was trying for Evans instead of Cooper but above rule and also dollars has pushed me to this version

I am going cheap at TE and i think Dissly is good sleeper

Punted at K and D like i do every year (2 cheap ones for each), and though I have never done great in contest it has never been because of that.

appreciate any feedback

QB - Patrick Mahomes - KC/12 - $27
QB - Jameis Winston - TB/7 - $13
RB - Alvin Kamara - NO/9 - $33

RB - Duke Johnson - HOU/10 - $9
RB - Devin Singletary - BUF/6 - $8

WR - Davante Adams - GB/11 - $33
WR - Amari Cooper - DAL/8 - $24
WR - Sammy Watkins - KC/12 - $15
WR - Josh Gordon - NE/10 - $6
TE - Mark Andrews - BAL/8 - $9
TE - Will Dissly - SEA/11 - $7
TE - Ian Thomas - CAR/7 - $6
PK - Jason Sanders - MIA/5 - $3
PK - Austin Seibert - CLE/7 - $3
TD - Cincinnati Bengals - CIN/9 - $3

This is gonna be the pot calling the kettle black, because I just posted mine.  I think if you are gonna go so thin at WR, you need to choose more consistent performers.  Davante is a weekly stud, but Amari puts up duds too often.  It continued in Dallas, and his foot injury (strain) has me a little worried.  As for Watkins, he hasn't played a full season since his rookie year in 2014.  I also chose Gordon as my WR4, but realistically just hoping for a few great games.  Cooper, Watkins, and Gordon are the types of players that will win you this contest, but without the consistency, getting to the finals will be the hard part.

I was going to say we posted at the exact same time and have some similarities though I went high dollar at QB, you did at  TE.

My strategy this year is to spend ~ 80% on ‘starting lineup’ so is similar to what you say above.

My thought exactly.  I ended up spending $198 on my 10 "projected" starters = 79.2% of budget.  I really should try to scrap together a few bucks for a WR5 though.  I guess I could change from Herndon to Uzomah at TE - that would free up $4 for a flier.

Here's some strange(?) logic...Zeke, if signed, has demonstrated that he will get all the snaps, but Singletary has not, and may hit the proverbial rookie wall, so if I spend $12 rather than $8 I lock up Buffalo's run game (minus of course the vulturing effect that Allen has on TDs).

The case for Pollard comes down to whether or not Kellen Moore is incrementally more intelligent than Jason Garrett and his offensive coordinators before him and realizes it makes sense to design some plays for Pollard and get him 6-10 touches per game.  The jury is out but I'd like to think Moore can pass this very low bar.

All the players listed are in the group of players that others have hyped but that I have no particular reason to roster on my squad.  I'm supposed to be interested in them, but I'm not.

Cool. I'll take it as fair criticism. I happen to acutally like these guys. The only groupthink going on here is Waller. The rest are just pretty darn good players for fantasy, IMO.

I probably shouldn't have included Jacobs in my "turned off by the hype" list...he has a ridiculous opportunity to get ALL the touches in a Gruden led attack (see Cadillac Williams)...I just haven't been able to hold my nose and keep his name on my roster.

I've been back and forth on the percentage issue.  Currently running 67%, reasoning that with two flex starters I want more depth than popular opinion.  Rostering 22 at the moment.

To your first point, I liken my thought process to the FBG playoff contest.  You had to choose players you thought would start the playoffs strong to get you through week 1.  If you had taken all NE/KC/NO/LAR players, you would not have made it to week 2.  You had to try to squeak by week 1 to get to your studs.  Gore qualifies as a week 1 squeaker, as I think he will be worth it when the season begins, but will lose value.  Singletary may not be worth his $8 from the onset, but will increase in value as the season moves forward.  I will trust my other 4 RB's to carry me until Singletary starts putting up usable games, which makes Gore unneeded.

Speaking of Pollard, I consider a small handful of RB's in the league to be true workhorses (Barkley, Zeke, Gurley, CMC, DJ, and Mixon), and their backups are useless (barring injury) as far as this contest is concerned.  Wayne Gallman ($4) and Rod Smith ($3) were the backups to Saquon and Zeke, and neither topped 5 points.  I an ironic twist, CJ Anderson ($12), who started as CMC's backup, became extinct before anyone could use his good games as Gurley's backup.  Gurley's backup before his wheels fell off (Brown - $3) only managed a high of 8, and also became extinct.  Chase Edmonds ($3) had a high of 6, until his 19 point game in week 13, of which only 13 out of 437 entries got to use.  Even Bernard ($12), a very good backup to Mixon, only managed 2 usable scores.  A total of 3 double digit games between 6 backup RB's who cost a combined $37 = a waste of bucks.

Maaaaybe my final entry.

I hate to show everyone the winning team, but ..... Actually, these are the players that will bomb as I put my curse on any player I pick.

QB: 2 old, 1 young - it feels like Jones will take over this year and hopefully put up some points   Brady and Rivers are so consistent and I like their prices. I hate the late bye weeks. Other QB I looked at: Drew Brees and Lamar Jackson.

QB - Philip Rivers - LAC/12 - $12
QB - Tom Brady - NE/10 - $11
QB - Daniel Jones - NYG/11 - $4

RB: Conner is in for a big year. Not a big fan of Carson or Johnson, but the group has talked them up and I don’t want to be the dummy that passed on the guys we all talked about. I don’t want anyone from Buffalo, but a starting RB at $8 seems hard to pass up. I gave up on a few RB such as Pollard and Gallman as it doesn’t feel like they will score much unless their starters get hurt. Other RB I looked at: Had Ingram as my first player and still feel he will have a great year. I really like his price and felt he could be my top RB. Really like  Kamara, Coleman and S. Michelle.
RB - James Conner - PIT/7 - $29
RB - David Montgomery - CHI/6 - $18
RB - Chris Carson - SEA/11 - $18
RB - Duke Johnson - HOU/10 - $9
RB - Devin Singletary - BUF/6 - $8

WR: Cooks should have another big year, but worried about Woods getting too many of those TDs. Feel like I need a true stud such as Hopkins, Adams or Thomas. Smith-Schuster was my first WR and feel like he will be a top 5 WR. Can’t decide if Robinson will be limited by his QB and the low scoring Bears. Goodwin was my first pick last year and he burnt me. May as well try it again. J.J. should have a few good games and I hate to pass up on Gordon.  I am pulling for him to get his life straight, but I don’t have a good feeling. I have had T. Boyd in most of my teams, but cannot convince myself to stick with him.
WR - Brandin Cooks - LAR/9 - $22
WR - Kenny Golladay - DET/5 - $21
WR - Allen Robinson - CHI/6 - $17
WR - Marquise Goodwin - SF/4 - $8
WR - J.J. Arcega-Whiteside - PHI/10 - $6
WR - Josh Gordon - NE/10 - $6

TE: I was going to avoid the Colts, but Doyle should be Brissett’s favorite target. Ertz should have a huge year and Uzomah is a bit of a cheap option for Dalton who seems to like TE.
TE - Zach Ertz - PHI/10 - $24
TE - Jack Doyle - IND/6 - $10
TE - C.J. Uzomah - CIN/9 - $4

K: i like having three kickers and was rock solid on Atlanta’s kicker until I saw he was fighting for his job. Succop should get sone opportunities when Tennessee stalls, but don’t they will score often. Chicago should see a good bit of scoring and Gay seems to be a great option at $3.
PK - Ryan Succop - TEN/11 - $4
PK - Eddy Pineiro - CHI/6 - $4
PK - Matt Gay - TB/7 - $3

DEF: the Patriots May be better than last year and the Seahawks are getting the former Gamecock so I like that potential.
TD - New England Patriots - NE/10 - $6
TD - Seattle Seahawks - SEA/11 - $5

i am sure I will make changes until late Wednesday, but this is what I have for now. Good luck everyone.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I am interested to see how the Winz does this year.  He seems like an encyclopedia and extremely knowledgeable.

PK - Brett Maher - DAL/8 - $5
PK - Matt Prater - DET/5 - $4
PK - Brandon McManus - DEN/10 - $4
TD - Dallas Cowboys - DAL/8 - $5
TD - Carolina Panthers - CAR/7 - $4
TD - San Francisco 49ers - SF/4 - $3
TD - New York Jets - NYJ/4 - $3

Total value: 250

Latest iteration - went with a stud ad RB, WR, TE with this iteration.  Looked closer at bye weeks (week 7 and week 10 only real issues) and looked at strength of schedule (I know it's not perfect).

QB - Jameis Winston - TB/7 - $13
QB - Nick Foles - JAX/10 - $8
QB - Daniel Jones - NYG/11 - $4

I keep coming back to J. Winston with B. Arians in TB.  Foles pairs well with Winston in terms of QBBC.  Jones is $4 insurance policy against injury.

RB - James Conner - PIT/7 - $29
RB - Chris Carson - SEA/11 - $18
RB - Jaylen Samuels - PIT/7 - $11
RB - Duke Johnson - HOU/10 - $9
RB - Devin Singletary - BUF/6 - $8

Pittsburgh has a good strength of schedule for RBs and I love J. Samuels so why not add J. Conner as well?  I'm sure most will not like the handcuff but I'm probably rolling with it (but rosters don't lock for 3 days    )  C. Carson is going to be highly owned and I like him as long as he can stay healthy.  D. Johnson and D. Singletary are sub $10 "starting" RBs so they make the squd.

WR - Julio Jones - ATL/9 - $32
WR - Chris Godwin - TB/7 - $22
WR - Dede Westbrook - JAX/10 - $13
WR - Josh Gordon - NE/10 - $6
WR - Taylor Gabriel - CHI/6 - $5

J. Jones - stud with a good WR schedule.  Godwin and Westbrook are supposed to get tons of targets from the slot and they pair with Winston/Foles respectively.
Not sure if I like Gordon but for $6 I have to roster him.  Gabriel is a good $5 best ball WR and got ~90 targets last year.

TE - Travis Kelce - KC/12 - $29
TE - Delanie Walker - TEN/11 - $12
TE - Mark Andrews - BAL/8 - $9

Kelce - duh.  Walker and Andrews have good strength of schedules for TE and are arguably the best receiving options on their teams.

PK - Brandon McManus - DEN/10 - $4
PK - Steve Hauschka - BUF/6 - $3
PK - Austin Seibert - CLE/7 - $3

McManus in Mile High, Hauschka costs $3 and just signed an extension so he should be able to keep the job. CLE kicker for $3 seems good to me.

TD - Pittsburgh Steelers - PIT/7 - $6
TD - San Francisco 49ers - SF/4 - $3
TD - New York Jets - NYJ/4 - $3

The Steelers have been near the top of the league in sacks for several years.  LB and secondary improvements have me believing (hoping as a fan) that they will get some way overdue positive regression in the turnover department.  $6 is a bit steep but I'm going with them.  Jets should be improved, SF has an early bye week and costs only $3.

shhhhh let people make the big mistake of rostering him
Here's how I see popular concensus in the contest thread versus my beliefs....

Overrated Offensive Output

Browns, Cardinals, Ravens, Bucs, Vikings, Raiders, Panthers, Lions, Niners

Underrated Offensive Output

Steelers, Falcons, Cowboys, Seahawks

Sleepers / TBD (selective players only)

Bengals, Broncos, Jaguars, Bears, Jets  (at the end of the year some of this will be proven to be too optimistic)

About what you would expect (good or bad)

Saints, Pats, Eagles, Chiefs, Texans, Brissett Colts, Chargers, Packers, Rams, Giants, Redskins

Put a fork in them

Dolphins, Bills, Titans

Robby Anderson still recovering from a calf injury, and the Jets just signed Hines Ward.  I just looked and Dodds left him off the list.  Bummer

There I was, admiring my current submission and eating a bowl of cheerios.  Then someone came in and peed all over them.
I'm pretty much set.

The only thing I'm considering is I may be investing more than I need to at qb. I think I've got 2 difference makers at qb, but do I need to spend that much money? It's a tough call. For now I am at $37, but I think it sets me apart from the pack

Final rooster for my players I want to watch team:

QB - Lamar Jackson - BAL/8 - $12
QB - Tom Brady - NE/10 - $11
QB - Daniel Jones - NYG/11 - $4
RB - Saquon Barkley - NYG/11 - $36
RB - Christian McCaffrey - CAR/7 - $35
RB - Miles Sanders - PHI/10 - $15
RB - Devin Singletary - BUF/6 - $8
WR - Adam Thielen - MIN/12 - $24
WR - Chris Godwin - TB/7 - $22
WR - Marquez Valdes-Scantling - GB/11 - $11
WR - Cole Beasley - BUF/6 - $6
WR - Josh Gordon - NE/10 - $6
TE - Hunter Henry - LAC/12 - $17
TE - Mark Andrews - BAL/8 - $9
TE - Mike Gesicki - MIA/5 - $8
TE - C.J. Uzomah - CIN/9 - $4
PK - Aldrick Rosas - NYG/11 - $4
PK - Steve Hauschka - BUF/6 - $3
PK - Austin Seibert - CLE/7 - $3
TD - Seattle Seahawks - SEA/11 - $5
TD - Carolina Panthers - CAR/7 - $4
TD - New York Jets - NYJ/4 - $3

4 Penn State alums, 3 Bills, 3 Giants, 2 Panthers. Done and done. Good luck everyone.

Only 32 hours left to deadline.  Can't wait to start using this year's contest querier.  Time to guess which player at each position will be the most owned...

QB - Lamar Jackson

RB - Duke Johnson

WR - Josh Gordon

TE - Mark Andrews

K - Austin Seibert

D - Jets

You probably nailed it. Maybe a cheap QB like jones will be popular as people seem to like a cheap 3rd QB. Thompson will be up there with Duke. I will include a few mid price guys:

QB: Jackson, Jones, Winston

RB: Duke, Carson, Thompson

WR: Gordon, MVS, Lockett

TE: Andrews, Waller, Njoku? (actually I have no clue after Andrews)

K/D: the low dollar ones

Jets secondary is still bloody awful, but they are cheap and host the Raiders in Week 12.

Final team. I'm heavily invested in the Arizona offense. Hope the garage time points come through for me.

QB - Baker Mayfield - CLE/7 - $19
QB - Kyler Murray - ARI/12 - $16

I think Mayfield/Murray are the two highest scoring players in FF this year. Mayfield should throw 35 plus TDs. Murray is the best duel threat QB prospect I've ever seen in a wide open offense.

RB - David Johnson - ARI/12 - $30
RB - Leonard Fournette - JAX/10 - $24
RB - LeSean McCoy - KC/12 - $16
RB - Damien Harris - NE/10 - $10
RB - Justin Jackson - LAC/12 - $9
RB - Devin Singletary - BUF/6 - $8
RB - Tony Pollard - DAL/8 - $4

I will monitor Zekes contract up until our deadline. McCoy will be the #1 RB in KC. DJ is the #1 RB in fantasy if the Arizona offense does what I'm thinking it will. Fournette could be a league winner if he stays healthy. Look for him to catch more passes this year than he ever has. I need my big guys to stay healthy here.

WR - Allen Robinson - CHI/6 - $17
WR - Courtland Sutton - DEN/10 - $14
WR - Curtis Samuel - CAR/7 - $12
WR - Andy Isabella - ARI/12 - $6
WR - Josh Gordon - NE/10 - $6
WR - Quincy Enunwa - NYJ/4 - $6
WR - Terry McLaurin - WAS/10 - $4

A-Rod and Samuel are both top 12 WR this year for me. Sutton should be top 20ish. Isabella is me investing in the Arizona offense more. Banking on Gordon being heavily involved in NE offense and staying clean. Meh.....

TE - Evan Engram - NYG/11 - $18
TE - Darren Waller - OAK/6 - $8

Two top 6 TE. I see where it might be better to just invest in Kelce here but I'm going the cheaper route. Waller is an insane value if he's used like I'm hearing he will be.

PK - Greg Zuerlein - LAR/9 - $7
PK - Harrison Butker - KC/12 - $6

Went with two K on elite offeses.

TD - New England Patriots - NE/10 - $6
TD - Carolina Panthers - CAR/7 - $4

NE is my #1 D this year.

I am proud to say I only have the bottom 3 rostered. I have a better qb, Much better rb and wr in those same price ranges

I'm intrigued.  Does better mean higher ceiling, higher floor, both?
My expected ceiling for Gordon isnt very high, and depending who you talk to Gordon's ceiling is so high it's unreasonable, so I'll just say theres a wr I think just does better overall than Gordon

As far as Duke, higher ceiling but lower floor.
