Official Dallas Cowboys 2012 Thread (2 Viewers)

I didnt get a chance to see the game other than a few cut ins on RedZone. But it sure seemed like we got real lucky. I said this earlier in the year, they don't ask how, just how many.

Skins got tough OT win too. CHicago lost. NYG and Seattle both playing now.

Dallas is still alive. They suck. But they sucked today and won. Sometimes its better to be lucky than good. Not generally a recipt for long term success. But in the short term, it can work.

Incidently, I saw a couple cut ins where Parnell was in at RT. Was that because Free was sucking or ostensibly injured?

Yeah not sure if he was injured or not,but it was only a couple of plays that I noticed.

Was I the only one screaming at Garrett for running just one play with 1:00 remaining, leaving a 40 yard FG attempt and nothing closer?

Thankfully, Bailey made it. Again, outcome won over process, but...the mentality and clock management issues seem to still be so confusing to this coaching staff, it's bound to rear its ugly head again.

Cowboys eek out another close win over a sub-par team. Fantastic.

Free was benched........BankerGuy I realize now that your fake......Ii always thought you were one us.
OK good to know. When I am optimistic I am the official Cowboys apologist and when I don't see a good football team, I'm not one of Widow's people.Glad we won, it was gutsy, but we had no business winning this game. I feel that Cincy bailed us out with sloppy play and terrible play calling at the end.Feel free to share your insights as oppossed to quick one liner attacks.

Nope, I was shaking my head as well. Could not understand the logic of just letting the clock go and not try for a few extra yards. Yes, I understand the fear of a holding penalty, but I hate playing scared.

x2. I commented on it in the game thread. It bothered me. 40 yards is no chip shot.

I was praying that we wouldn't run a play. Its amazing to say this, but with this team I am scarred to death of running simple plays when even a make able game winning FG is within reach for fear they will find a way to botch it.

What if Murray would have gotten stuffed and lost more yards? That said I would have run another play and kicked on say 3rd down myself. We had no business winning that one and I actually turned it off for awhile to watch my fantasy teams on RedZone. With a running game this team CAN beat anyone ... it really is ashame about all these defensive injuries this team COULD have been special. Even if we get in I really doubt we get that far but you never know. Obviously winning the division would make the path easier with a home game.

The WC path got easier though with RG3 hurt and TB and CHI both losing. In theory we should root for DET over GB tonight I think athough at this point we're better off if SOMEONE beats the Giants and we somehow win out (unlikely).

Im still not sure how Romo pulled that off. He really played well considering the duress he was under. That TD pass to Dez was sweet!

Banged up defense (understatement), horrible O-line play (BIG understatement), a punter who forgot how to punt, which is pretty much the definition of useless. But, a gritty, ugly, win. Albright played pretty good. Spencer made plays. Hey, this team is showing signs of life. As long as we have Romo, Murray, Witten, and Dez on the field theres a chance each week.

I also realize that bengals receivers and/or defenders catch a couple of those balls and this is a loss.........but its a win. On to next week....

Give the Boys some credit. This is a game we had no business winning after the nonsense that went on the past 24 hours. We're basically running a DIII defense out there, on the road against a team fighting for its playoff life. Sure, it was ugly, but that's an amazing win. Maybe even the kind of win that sets them up for an emotional run. The announcers gave them a hack job all day. I think they deserve a lot of credit.

With Dez out for the year ... our chances go WAY down ... and now we won't have a high draft pick either. Wow injuries really crushed us this season.

For our Seahawks friend let's compare. Take out both your starting CB's plus maybe 5 of your other best defensive starters ... now play without both Lynch and Turbin. Looking great huh?

Not sure what will be more annoying over the next few weeks, an immature seahawks fan trolling a cowboys thread or cowboys fans blaming our inability to make the playoffs solely on the dez injury.

Either way, I think it's guaranteed to be an insufferable place that was otherwise fun, interesting, and helpful to visit and commiserate with knowledgeable fans.

I'm with you.Not happy with things in this thread and the SP in general, I am debating taking a break.

BG, the season is almost over. A natural break comes then. But I'm with you that the trolls are getting more and more common.

I don't consider it anything. If you are going to be as involved as Jerry is you have to expect a confrontation every once in a while.
I agree. This type of thing happens all the time. Owners, Coaches, and GM's all put pressure on high priced injured players to get back as soon as possible, especially a team in position to possibly go after a playoff spot.

Im more irritated that the story came out a week later after the fact just to stir non sense up.

I did not mind the 40 yard FG.

I have to say this, I have been pretty hard o Garrett, but from all indications he did a wonderful job handling a weekend that no coach is prepared to handle.

I see why Jerry thinks this kid could be a winner at head coach, I am still not sure he is there yet though. I do think he showed REAL leadership in guiding his team through the weekend though, and that's something not everybody has.

He deserves praise for his handling of the team and winning that gamed.

During the game I was a bit pissed, I thought Dallas was not playing up to par and Cincy was working them at will. I was SUPER pissed at Ryan's screaming and penalty. But I do think you need to, or I need to, remember what this team was dealing with (and that includes Ryan and the coaching staff). With all the emotions and all the things making it hard to focus I think staying in that game was a huge accomplishment, and what they did at the end was great.

Hats off to all of them.

Today is the memorial, I believe. A very sad day, my heart goes out to everyone impacted by this.

Marcus Lattimore. RB. South Carolina. Elite talent trending towards a top 15 pick. Before he blew out his knee in an ugly, ugly fashion this year. Declared for the NFL Draft. Just read that he plans to sit out his rookie year to rehab, a la Willis McGahee did a few years ago.

What are the odds of Jerry chasing the shiny things and making this guy the Cowboys' 2nd round pick? At least it would not be an injured ILB.

2nd seems a bit high for a guy with 2 knee injuries in 2 years

This is really touching to me. I had heard that Brown's family was being very forgiving, but this is amazing. I am not sure if it is right or wrong, but I know it shows a level of compassion that is hard to fathom.

IRVING, Texas – Owner Jerry Jones discussed a range of topics circulating the Cowboys organization on his weekly radio show, but one comment regarding linebacker Jerry Brown’s family’s compassion struck deepest.

Jones said on 105.3 FM “The Fan” that Brown’s mother, Stacey Jackson, requested Josh Brent not only attend Brown’s services on Tuesday, but that Brent rides with Brown’s family and sits with them during the event.

“The family, we’re flying them in on our plane,” Jones said. “Josh is here on Stacey’s request.”

Please no. Not with a 2nd rounder. Grab him in the 6th round, if we must. But, dear god...the likelihood this kid makes it back from 3 torn ligaments when he's already had a history of knee issues...no way you drop a 2nd rounder on him.Disclaimer: I so like the kid and his character and was mortified when I saw that injury live. Sick to my stomach mortified. I wish him nothing but the best and wouldn't mind seeing him in a Dallas uniform. Just not for any Thursday or Friday selections.

Bob Sturm with another fantastic blog post about the Cowboys' offense, "Decoding Garrett". When you delve into the details of this offense like he does, its more and more amazing that this team is winning. An real testament to how good Romo is. I absolutely love the closing punch line, "But, we wonder what it must be like to enter a game trying to understand how to attack opposing defenses, rather than trying to game-plan around your own weaknesses - which seems to have been the strategy for this offense for quite a while."

http://sturminator.blogspot.com/

Jerry, invest in the OL, please.

Good read. I like Sturm's style.

The question remains....Can the Cowboys put together a successfull O-line before Romo gets too old or killed out there? For the most part, the rest of the pieces are there (if our D is full strength), sans maybe some D line help and maybe (wish list) a big play safety.

Sometimes I wonder, as I know all of us must, how the O-line keeps getting bandaids applied to gaping wounds. Aside for Tyron Smith, whats been a positive move for this unit? Over the last several years we've had old guys replaced with mediocre talent. GM jerry has built a top heavy offense with all the skill positions. He's failed to build a strong foundation (O-line). Look at the team the niners have built while jerrah's been acquiring shiny toys. Nice work GM Jerrah!

I mean how does this hugely successfull business man not see that what he's been doing with the Cowboys has been a gigantic failure? Jimmy Johnson cleaned house and built a VERY strong and balanced team in a short period of time. All jerrah had to do was let jimmy do his thing......but noooooo, he had to have a piece of the glory. Guess what jerrah, an owner gets glory by hiring good football people to hire good football players! Rant over

All that said, I'm actually looking forward to the steelers game. Hey, we're still in it, and I like watchin Romo even if he has to do too much out there.

One more thing, is Dez really gonna go on IR because of a finger? While they are still alive for the playoffs? Tape the jacked up finger to the next finger, get some special newmans made, and go out there and catch the F'in ball!!

How about Tank Carradine from FSU? It might be time to get in a damaged-goods type of draft style.

Dallas really shot themselves in the foot with the Roy Williams deal years ago and have had a lot of misses in the draft. Tyron Smith hasnt been very good this year with the transition to LT. Lots of penalties and he's been beaten badly quite a bit. Free has taken several steps back after he was paid the big bucks. The line has been beaten up from the get go and Dallas had to move several players around which hurt. Jerry has only taken 2 offensive skill position players in the first 3 rounds 2x in the last 4 drafts. (Dez/Demarco)

In terms of safety.. I believe the last 2 drafts have been pretty thin at that spot.

On the niners comments.. they were picking close to the top for several years. They also had multiple 1st rounders 3x in the last 7 years which really helped. Made some very good picks the last few years in the 1st or at least had several drafts that provided quality starters before Harbaugh even got to town. Did a nice job with several picks.

Dallas was hit hard in key areas this year but obviously they're not getting it done regardless. Bright side is that the Cowboys have several young talented players on both sides of the ball. Offensive line hasnt been "good" since they lost to the Hawks in the playoffs.

I thought this was an 8-8 team going into the year.. possibly 9-7. About the same as last year. Like last year Dallas had several games where it couldve gone either way and it went south. Difference between playoffs and 7-9,8-8. I realistically think they win 1 of the next 3.

Thanks for reminding me of the Roy Williams trade! I've been trying to forget......what a joke. And Roy knew it. He smiled with every dropped pass all the way to the bank. Nice move jerry.Tyron Smith will be ok. Hes by far the most talented guy on the line. The problem is, offensive lines are all about continuity. Centers goin down. New guards. Doug Free sucks.

Every once in a while they block well and we get a glimpse of what could be. No consistency at all though. And drive killing penalties. Romos ability to create has kept countless drives alive. Romo to Witten has been movin the chains.

Jay Ratliff to IR be out 3-6 weeks with sports hernia surgery. I should have been suspicious when a long term groin injury comes to the fore that it might be a hernia. That got Newman once or twice in the past.

I said it in the Dez thread, but I like that he is gonna play and delay surgery. This shows dedication and toughness to teammates. These actions can be contagious.

Not really predicting a Cowboys victory, cuz with this team literally anything is possible, but I'm staking my FF playoff hopes on Romo. I think he's gonna light up the Steelers secondary. If he continues his trend of not turning the ball over, I see the Cowboys squeekin out a close one. If da boys turn the ball over 2 or more times, Im seeing a steeler victory.

So all the debate was Detroit better than Seattle this week. Well so far both SUCK!

Sorry this was for another topic.

GO COWBOYS !!!!

I like stating the obvious. It'll be a glorious day when Jason Garrett is #### canned.
I thought it was an excellent game. The FG at the 49 yard line was never intentional, he was hoping to get Pitt to burn a TO.With all of our injuries and a 3-5 record to start the season, this team has turned around and is 5-1 in their last 6 games. With the crap we have on the offensive line, and the scrubs we've brought in to fill the many various injuries on defense, that is a spectacular coaching job in my opinion.Garrett will be a Cowboy next season, as he should be.

Hard to argue against this, that's for sure. It hasn't been pretty, but when you factor in how bad the O-line is and how many injuries on the defensive side of the ball, the team is playing well enough to win in some pretty pressure packed games.

Good game today Cowboy fans. I like you guys against the Saints next week and looking forward to a great week 17 showdown in DC for the division.

Next week will be brutal against Brees.

Can anyone tell me wtf McCray does other than not cover anyone? Brees will eat his lunch.

I hope they can find a way next week at home vs Brees and co. It would be great to have 1 last chance in week 17 to win the division. I don't see PHI upsetting WAS next week unfortunately.

Have to admit that I never expected them to win the last 2 games. But maybe facing a team as decimated as they are yields OT game and Dallas made a play. Maybe as bad as the OL is, going against teams with backup/injured guys gives them a chance.

One has to be impressed by the will to win and will to keep fighting. If you don;t think thats part of coaching, then I don't know what to say to you.

Anyway, on to the Saints. Should be a pinball machine with teams going up and down the field.

I sure hope we see some positivity in this thread for the next week.....Gg Cowboys, I've been waiting a long time for this one vs the Steelers. You can't imagine the feeling of winning this game amongst a bunch of Steeler fans at the bar. Waiving their little towels whenever the time is right....pathetic.
