To me it's like Travis is the Rick rimes of this show, dumb as a rock, and Right now this chick with the radio is acting like Coral.

Why give her that radio?

My wife, who was the biggest TWD fan over the first few seasons, is probably out for FTWD.  I'll hang on just because I don't really have any shows to follow this summer.

She still likes TWD but we both kind of felt meh about this past finale.

She absolutely hates Kim Dickens so it's basically unwatchable for her.  Guess I'll be watching solo

kid lying crying next to his mom on the beach, not wanting to move or help... while #### is literally blowing up around them and zombies are slow-motion stuttering towards them... right.

girl talking to mcdreamy on the radio... ok- I can kind of buy that from a teenage girl. stupid, given everything we the viewers know about this world, but not unbelievable from their perspective.

kid dumps mom in the ocean... I can make a case for that- scene before, he had his closure, kissed her bullet-hole and covered her back up. either the kid is supposed to be a bit cracked, or he just didn't want to hear his dad's bs any more.

swimming. right.

while swimming with zombies, hearing a noise and then swimming FURTHER from the boat. right.

was there a big storm? trying to figure out what capsized that large sail-boat. don't think bullets are going to push it over.

neato original idea to already get into the "there are bad humans out there trying to kill you and take your stuff" story line. but this time- it's on the water!

and yeah- they'll #### with captn ahab, even though it's a giant complicated mechanized boat that none of them know how to operate.

this seems on par with TWD to me- doesn't seem to be offering anything at all new conceptually, other than the fact that the military is still somewhat in place blowing up LA and whatnot. coast guard, not so much. all of that means its' pretty silly and bad, which also means I'll keep watching.

It's the apocalypse, what else are they going to do?

TWD is much better than this #### show. This article is horrible. I do love the strand character though.
Yeah not sure how anyone - linked article above included - can say this is better than TWD.  The article says it's portraying the breakdown of society so well?  What?  Are they watching the same show we are?  Confused.

Agree about Strand.  He and Ruben Blades' characters are the only ones that show promise at this point.  Maybe if something happens to Cliff Curtis' character where he snaps and goes badass, he'll be good.

Otherwise. major meh-ville here.

I'm just impressed with the writers' attempts to make every character completely and utterly unlikeable. They're gonna have to work harder on Strand and Ruben Blades though, as those two are pretty great.

yep, I'm out and onto a few series on Netflix I haven't seen yet - like iZombie season 2.

so when did the black guy prepare his boat for this apocalypse ? he was in jail when we first met him...i mean i guess he could have only been there a short time but nobody really saw this coming and it all went down pretty fast...maybe it was explained last season?
He might have only meant he had fuel for 3 months.  Or maybe I misheard.

That being said I was under the impression that he was put in jail at the start of the apocalypse sort of like druggie kid.  Generally you're not in a real jail when you have those kind of assets (assuming that's his home and boat) you're more likely to be in a place that is low security.

They need to make Strand the main character and start killing off the family of idiots to try and save the show.

And who leaves his boat randomly at anchor 100 yards offshore in the middle of the ####### Pacific Ocean?  He was in that jail cell at least a number of days - nobody decided to make a swim for it over that time period?  Just one random yacht sitting there?  So stupid.

Seriously.  I hope they do some kind of backstory where he was able to contact a family member or a friend or something and told them to put his boat out there for him at a certain time.  Didn't he have some arrangement with the military guys?

So much dumb in this.

Maybe he is just the hired captain of the boat and he killed the real owner and parked it out there readying for his escape.

The whole "every character being dumb as a box of rocks" thing is admittedly wearing thin. Truth be told, I'm getting pretty tired of it. At least between TWD and FTWD. We need to get this story line in, so make someone due something incredibly stupid!!!! People get paid to write this drivel?

Awful awful stuff

I get what your're saying and agree they missed an opportunity to show more of what happened in those 6 days, from viewpoints other than our little group like the government etc.  But, I don't see how you take those six days and turn it into 3 or 4 seasons worth of content.  Unless they took on a different story from a different group each season; that would be pretty cool actually.

The fact is in this universe the outbreak happened and spread really quickly and the writers have stated over and over that they aren't ever going to explain the how or what of it.
I think they could have easily take a 7 day stretch and turned it into a few seasons.  24 style.  Or semi-24 style.

We didn't see society collapse.  We saw a few people survive and then a week passed out of nowhere.

Where were the scenes of unsuspecting people being eaten, where were the numerous looting scenes that would have made for some entertaining TV, where were hospitals being overrun, where were cutaways to government agencies doing something, where were more online things where people were discovering and relaying news and possible safe destinations.........................if any of that was done it was done so quickly and terribly that I don't even remember it.

Probably the worst thing they did with this show was to focus on a small group of people just TWD did.  If they made it more of a global thing but still had the main characters it would have been so much better with endless possibilities.

This is now somewhere in between Z nation and TWD.  I don't mean as to how good it is, I mean it is trying to be serious but can't possibly be taken seriously as a show.

Thing is, they could still do another spinoff about the breakdown of society and easily make it so it is nothing like this show.  A re-do.

Like, some other network and writers or something.  Zombie stuff isn't patented.  Someone can blow this thing out of the water.

Zombie stuff is huge now.  A big budget series will do well.  The only budget here is yacht rental.

It was probably most covered in World War Z.

Most of the other zombie stuff out there goes straight to the aftermath.

Too much complaining in here. The only question is, What do you want?" If the show isn't giving that to you then don't watch. If you want something else, hmm, here's an idea, write it yourself and then sell it. Government mayhem, hospital decline, society civil war, social anarchy? Great, write it and sell it. If this show or TWD, tried to be like LOST and tell the backstory of everyone without moving zombies forward and stuff, people would be panning it much more than now. Although, I think that'd be nice to see, but no network would pick that up. Watch it, like it/hate it, continue/don't continue. Simple as that.

Can't people hate watch and complain about it here?

People need to watch so the hate it/awful lazy writing schtick can live on to carry us over to the season premiere of the other hate it/awful lazy writing show.

I watched the premiere hoping beyond hope they learned from the first season.. nope.. actually worse.

The whole swimming.. zombie, then swim further away was beyond stupid.

Putting teenage girl in charge of the radio looking for a safe haven.. Really?? and what were the older people so wrapped up with?
:fishing: and wandering the ship..

At this point it has been removed from the DVR settings, and I'll only be watching if I'm bored and there is nothing else on.. Such a waste.

I'd say that is fine, although many of us with lives cannot fathom why someone would watch a show they hate.  If you have that much free time, do something more meaningful in your life.

Oh, I agree. I have no problem giving up on shows. There's so many other things still to watch. Wife and I did stick with 24 much longer than expected because we were having fun goofing on it. But even that got old after a while and we missed the last season or 2. But I don't begrudge someone wanting to watch and hate on a show. Have at it!

The problem is you really can't have a show where everyone is smart because then they'd just take off to somewhere isolated and avoid all danger.  So, you need idiots.  However, the way the idiots are portrayed is awful at times.  Dumb son that's upset over his mom's death is just brutal.  Dad is a little better...slowly coming to terms with how ####ed they are.  Stupid daughter on the radio is an ok idiot as well.  Druggy Depp making poor decisions but also being a survivor due to drug mastery is somewhat interesting.

I liked the floating zombies...do they swim?  Didn't look like it...so basically they're just bobbing in the water in hoping for a snack, which is fun.

Also, I assume a yacht would be a big target.  And at this point, you probably want to stay close enough to shore with your yacht to see if there's anywhere safe to go.  I did say to my wife they should just head for Hawaii and was a happy that got mentioned...

speaking of which, whatever happened to the Strain?

I didn't care for the episode at all, but I still don't get the problem with the radio. Again, stupid teenage girl doing what she does best 1) trying to find a new boyfriend and 2) not realizing how easily she can be manipulated. Step dad was basically just trying to keep her busy, i.e. OK, just listen to the radio and see if you can find a place that is handling the apocalypse well. He wasn't even thinking she could give away their location to bad people, heck outside of the captain and maybe Blades (who unfortunately is looking more at captain than outsiders), none of them is thinking about Governor/Negan types at this point. I can see that happening when he gave her the radio as they hadn't seen the shot up boat.

The rest of the episode was a mess, but the radio part didn't really bother me at all, totally plausible and highly likely considering the teenage girl whose boyfriend just ate his parents.

You answered your own question on the problem with the radio .. Bold above....

It just added to the insanity of the episode.. Someone in the TWD thread stated they liked this show better because they didn't do stupid things..

Didn't take long, IMO, for this show to :shark:

It's made by the cheapskates at AMC.

When they rolled up by that barge of people, I said no "freaking" way.  Really, if they had pulled up there I would have been done.

Strand is a character overflowing with potential.  I want to see this show through his eyes only, so it's only a matter of time before the idiots on board mutiny him or he gets the Sam Jackson "Deep Blue Sea" treatment.

This show would be so much better if Strand and Ruben Blades would find some other bad asses and kick ### for a full hour.
