This is the biggest problem with soooo many current tv dramas. There is a conflict. It's a pretty important conflict. Life or death or life changing. The resolution to this conflict is crucial, difficult, and interesting. What do the writers do? Tack on 3 or 4 other conflicts or subplots. And the worst part is they're usually poorly thought out and lame. The side gimmick to me is always the buzz kill in this type of stuff. There is no need to have some side plot involving Strand with what does he have up his sleeve. Its too soap operaish. The story should be good enough just to watch them wade through the start of the apocalypse without some stupid secret underlying story. Feels too cartoonish.
It's moronic and maddening.
See: The Americans, Homeland, SoA, TWD, and about 5 others I quit watching.
