Anyone else think Bale has lost some weight in the last 2-3 years? I always remembered him being a bigger guy, but watching him running with the ball here, it really hit me how skinny he looks. Maybe that's what he needed to become the force the he has become now.

Really an exciting second half....wonderful goal from Pavlyuchenko. Kevin Davies continued his brilliant game with a great headed assist to Martin Petrov, who put the game away. to Owen Coyle for subbing out Davies in the 96th so he could get a standing ovation from the home crowd after his 2 goal/1 assist performance. Gotta think that he'll be getting another shot for England.

United blew another 2nd half lead but stole it back at the end. Park with both goals.
We actually had an Owen Hargreaves sighting. (he started). Lasted all of 3 minutes before tweaking his hamstring and hobbling to the locker room. See you in 2 years Owen.....

I'd prefer Essien and Malouda. Just looked at the standings, and see ManU sitting just 2 points behind, with a nice 3 point cushion over Arsenal and $ity.
It seems the rumors of United's demise have been largely exaggerated. Think I heard this is their longest unbeaten streak in a few decades.
Nice to see Newcastle come up large.
Can't wait to the midweek away game. Let's make it 12 in a row to start off the year without a loss
18 matches in a row without defeat in all competitions 
(19 if you want to include the MLS all star exhibition)

Why are they so upset? I'd think that they would want to play MK, no? Is this just because MK is a football league team and has better players?

Not sure if anybody caught this, but Mexico beat the US women for the first time ever in the Semis of regional WCQ, putting the US into a must win in the 3rd place game vs Costa Rica. IF they beat CR, they then go to a home and home, total-goals matchup against Italy with the winner heading to the WC. Have to think they'll still make it, but wow.
Btw- I was actually a fan of US Women's soccer back in the 'old' days, but I realized even then that what I liked watching was the relative purity of a very, very good team consistently playing against horrible teams. It was a way of getting to see a textbook example of how the game should be played on both sides of the ball. Even as recently as 10 years ago, there were only a few teams in the world that could actually play the game; the rest were like watching u10 kids running around.... literally- slow, weak, skill-less, tactic-less, point-less. So you had top talent against u10 kids. The wipeout factor let the US women play pretty entertaining soccer.
Now that more countries have advanced to a more equal footing with the bigger teams, the games have become almost unbearable to watch for me.

Saw the ESPN Deportes highlights of the game (minimal... not sure if that's due to the game, or time constraints on the segment)- looked like Arsenal got one shot worthy of highlights. Otherwise, I'm guessing they passed the ball around a lot around the top of the 18.

So the MLS final 4 are set: LA Gals v Dallas, Quakes vs Colorado.
All these years later, and I'm still unsure if this is still a home and home, total goals, or just a one off at this point. Have to figure the Gals are favored in a big way with RSL out, but I'd love to see my old home team, San Jose, somehow pull through.

don't feel badly about not knowing the format, they changed it at least 5 times over the years.This year it is a single game. Winner moves on.Seeing Bobby Convey rise like a phoenix makes watching San Jose much more interesting. Always liked him as a player and is amazing that he was very close to retirement after injuries nearly destroyed his career.Seems like he has been around for ever but because he was the youngest player on the Donovan, DMB, Gooch U17 squad, he is still only 27 years old. Yeah, I think so too. Can you even imagine turning down a callup for your NT at 17? I would guess he wants to play in the WC and is trying to keep his options open. If that is the case, then if Honduras looks good and seems poised to qualify, we may not get him. But if they stumble, I bet he goes full force trying to get his citizenship pronto. No reason to force that decision 4 years out (yes, he could apply with FIFA to change but that seems like something you'd want to avoid if possible). The latest US U20 roster was released.
If form holds a handful of these players will be on the field for the senior squad come 2014.
The two players that have the highest potential from my readings are Alex Zahavi who appears to making the one time switch from Portugal to the US (he was born in LA), and Sebastian Lletget who plays for West Ham. Lletget is young for the U20's and will likely not make an impact on the senior side though until 2018 if he plays up to potential.
U.S. U-20 Roster:
GOALKEEPERS (2): Cody Cropper (Ipswich Town, England; Athens, Ga.), Eduardo Fernandez (Real Salt Lake AZ; Casa Grande, Ariz.)
