Atlético pulls out yet another won at home, and now sit only 8 points back from Barça. Loos like Falcao pulled a hammy and might be out for a little while. They have a midweek game in the copa del rey against Betis, but have a 2-0 lead and are playing defense quite well right now. Next WE is against Athletic, so that's a much bigger match.What happened with my favorite Catalan team this week? Started one to many CBs? Shoulda played with 10 midfielders.

I did not see the first half. Is this to mean the keeper hurt himself while getting red carded for a karate kick?

Either that or he faked injury in an attempt to gain the official's sympathy. Or maybe something else entirely. It is African football after all.

Looks like the Shea to Stoke rumors were a bit premature but at least he gets what appears to be a trial with them. Seems like they are fully aware of his issues. I think Shea's upside is huge if he can get his head on straight and stay healthy.

If the right place isn't playing with Hazard and Mata, what is it?Speaking of players going to and fro from Spain and England, ManU is apparently eyeing Valdes and Reina. Barca's list is Reina, De Gea, Courtois (on loan to Atletico from Chelsea), Ter Stegen, and Fernandez (Osasuna).

Not sure that will be possible, but it would be a real coup. Perhaps his buyout clause is low enough, but it really comes down to him wanting to stay in Madrid and work with Simeone.Valdes is better than Reina, and De Gea has more upside than both.As for Torres, I think that he plays best with a striking partner that's fast and quick, combined with a midfield that will feel him through balls and crosses in the box that he can finish. He's lost some quickness, but I think most of his problems are mental.

Off the ball he seems almost bored and unfocused, frequently looks to pass first in the box and has an uncanny ability to shoot directly at the keeper when presented with a sitter. Rafa's support for him is not helping with the fans. The team looks significantly more dynamic and dangerous with Ba out there. IMO, it's less the physcial side with De Gea and more the experience side. His timing and decision making on crosses isn't there yet (like I mentioned about Howard recently). Will it help if he gets stronger? Sure. But not if he can't get the other parts down. And with Howard, it took a few years to get there- De Gea will be fine.

He might not be amenable to staying on ice when he could be sold to an elite club and get their #1 job. Chances like that don't come up often.Chelsea has him under contract until Summer of 2016, btw.

When you say lose, do you mean from Atleti, or Chelski? You wouldn't move Courtois and Torres for Falco if you were managing Chels?

It's a mental aspect of the game that he is clearly struggling with and has made little improvement on in the 1-1/2 years he has spent with United. I imagine Ferguson will give him another year to prove himself, but being forced to rotate with Lindegaard can't be helping his confidence.

De Gea, as was mentioned before, isn't a good fit for Barca given how poorly they defend crosses. They can't afford to not have another big guy back there to punch balls out. Being "good with your feet" can always be worked on/developed, but it shouldn't be the highest priority. I could see Chelsea leveraging AM and Barca against each other for Courtois. Mundo Deportivo lists a possible transfer fee at 20mm. I think selling Valdes would probably cover about half of that.

Looks like the Shea deal has hit another snag as he did not report to Stoke today as expected. From reports it appears that Stoke and MLS are no where near close on the value of the player and as such Shea was blocked from the training/trial with Stoke.

United is a top club. Having a GK learn for two or three years on-the-job really isn't something they should be facilitating. You can rotate youth into other positions, but rotating goalkeepers is pretty dodgy. They clearly felt De Gea would adapt quicker. That being said, he is very good in other areas and United have already invested two years.They obviously saw something in De Gea they think they can develop. He's already an incredible shot-stopper. The Tottenham goal this weekend was his fault, but he made a few great saves before that.

They used to be really high on Ansejo who has been burried on the bench at Atleti since joining up, he is still only 23. I don't think it is really needed to get a long term guy though, an older vet for a couple of years would be just fine.

Honduras topped the group by scoring one more goal it appears and El Salvador advanced on the dreaded coin flip over Panama So the Gold Cup Central America teams seem to be Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Belize and the winner of the playoff game you mentioned above.I am hopeful that Guat can pull that playoff game out as I don't think Panama would send their best team to the Gold Cup much like many of the other Hex contestants won't and I want the strongest teams possible for the US to play to get a real good look at the next group of players in the depth chart.
