Kreis out at NYFC
They were not good.

But I think he needed at least the start of next season to work with them
Sounds like Capello is the replacement. Don Fabio would be, by far, the highest profile coach MLS has ever had.
What the hell?

Keane, Silva, Drogba, Lampard, etc might not have gotten much attention over there, but I'd think that signing Capello would make some people in Europe sit up and take notice. That's a monster signing if it's true.

I think it would be doomed to fail. You can be a tactical genius, but you're not going to succeed in MLS without knowing the league inside out and without having a front office with channels into efficient player markets (South America, whatever). Can you picture Capello going to the draft combine to scout college kids?

And there is nothing Capello can do to fix that field which makes Pirlo almost useless.

They need to extricate themselves of Pirlo this off season else they are going to be a mess again next season.

I can't see Kries being out of work for long. He was against the older players to start with and it just got worse and worse with every signing.

It's not even just the field. I love Pirlo, but there's like 8 teams in the world built to take advantage of him. His passing is only fully realized as an asset when you surround him with other really great passers. Otherwise, teams can just press him out of the game. The field certainly exacerbates the problem, but LA has a huge, pristine field and LA still wasn't able to use Gerrard's range of passing to full effect.

Related note. Gerrard gave an interview stating that he was "unaware" of such challenges as travel, turf, playing in humidity, and playing at altitude before joining the league. Because I'm sure Robbie Keane couldn't tell him anything about that stuff.

oh wow that is bad, considering Keane already gave interviews saying he told Gerrard all about the difficulties of playing in MLS before he signed.

I hope he retires for the sake of LA. I don't know if he is going to be able to adjust at his late age with only 1 year left on the contract.

I'll give him a little leeway on that. It's one thing to hear about it--it's a whole other thing to experience it.

And all he had to do to be "aware" of the travel was look at a map.

You know what would really suck? If Chelsea stole Simeone away from Atlético. Words wouldn't be able to describe my anger.

Don't see it happening, but a whole lot of oil soaked GBP can be pretty persuasive.

Guzan - oof
He is not the most popular guy with the fan base over there. And Howard isn't doing much better with Everton fans recently. I'm not sure either are long for this world as first choice EPL GKs.
interesting to hear.Guzan has had some games where he's single handedly kept them around with crazy reflex saves.

but then a bit of not so much too.

Howard... don't see all the games, but I feel like he's not making as many of the tough saves the way he used to. Too many shots are going in- even though they're decent shots, IMO. I do feel like both have gotten tactically much better with age controlling the box, even if Guzan is still horrendous with distribution.
Shot stopping just isn't enough at the top level anymore.
I was just thinking Saturday how much Cech adds to Arsenal beyond stopping shots. I'm developing more of an appreciation for organizing the defense, providing a calming influence and not smoking during the game.
This is true...Shez-nee started the season with some spectacular saves, but soon after, I realized he doesn't do ordinary things extraordinarily well. Ordinary saves become an adventure, & for every great save, he let's in a howler. His counterpart DeSanctis, is the opposite; organizes the defense & commands the box, but is not a shot-stopper. Flummoxed. Why can't we just have both in one package, like the big boys? Well then, it wouldn't be Roma...(lightsupcigarette)

Still think Kreis needed another camp and at least 6 games to get the team going. That team wss literally thrown together and then had the stars thrown in after that.

And yeah, the numbers werent giovinco-esque, but Villa put up a really good fight in NY. Played his ### off.

David Villa is a warrior. His speed isn't what it once was, but he definitely knows what runs to make off the ball. He has always worked his ### off, both on the pitch and on the training ground.

He was a fantastic signing. Even playing with the crap that NY put together at the beginning, he still found ways to be effective.

Pirlo being linked with a return to his origins: Internazionale...winter loan. Perfect fit, in my opinion; Inter's midfield is loaded with solid, defensive steel, & he would add offensive threat, via substitution, set pieces & through balls, when game situation dictates; he knows, & is comfortable with, Serie A tactics. Savvy acquisition if true.

GB Kazakhstani home CL matches on days I am working from home!

ETA: Gee F Bee when it means Fernando Torres and his glorious hair is on my TV!

This Kazakhstani team has a nicer stadium than anyone in MLS. :kicksrock:
so true.

The architecture outside of the US for new buildings is so much more interesting in general. The MLS stadiums are a touch cookie cutter (some of which comes from trying to keep the costs down I guess).

So much blood in the water.

Police raid German FA on suspicion of tax evasion over 2006 World Cup

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/nov/03/polic-raid-german-fa-tax-evasion-world-cup

German police have raided the Frankfurt headquarters of Germany’s football association, the DFB, and searched the private homes of officials on suspicion of tax evasion linked to the awarding of the 2006 World Cup.

Documents and hard drives were seized from the DFB’s headquarters in Frankfurt, according to the German news agency DPA, which said 50 officers were involved.

“Prosecutors in Frankfurt have opened investigations on suspicion of serious tax evasion linked to the awarding of the football championship in 2006 and the transfer of €6.7m of the organising committee for the German Football Association (DFB) to the Fifa football association,” said prosecutors in a statement. They said they suspected the association of failing to register the payment in tax returns

Again a deserved draw for Atlético. They have to do better with creating chances and finishing those chances. They got a point, which is good. The game against Benfica looks to be the deciding clash.

Playing in Kazakhstan doesn't look easy, especially on that turf.

still a believer and fan of RBNY stadium, inside and out.

but that's the only new one I've seen that isn't utilitarian at best.

love Red Bull Arena on the inside. There is not a single bad seat in the house.

On the outside I was not very impressed with it visually. Just looked like a cement block (at least during the day).

I think my two favorite in the US are Sporting KC stadium and Red Bull Arena.

just personal preference but I found it too grey. It just looked dull to me, from the outside.

you want dull, there's... every other stadium- and especially SJ. RBs at least tried to make the exterior "something" and not dull. I like it a lot.

never saw KCs stadium other than game-play until now- looks cool from the air, much less so from the street.

wow- just googled it.

amazing building. love how it has hte convertible roof. also love that the convertible roof doesn't take design control over everything else.... looks great from outside and inside... and from the air. really cool.

Too bad they couldn't have real grass on the field though...
oh... damn- really? that sucks. thought that was the point of the convertible roof.

somewhere... in Japan?... they have that stadium where the field rolls out to get sunlight, and then rolls back in under the roof for games. pretty dope.

Astana Arena is the second largest stadium in the country and it was built from 2006 to 2009 at a cost of $185 million, and was officially opened on 3 July 2009

What does an MLS stadium run?

rbny was 200mil.

:kicksrock:

but they probably had forced labor camps building that.

eta: because it's in NJ, not NY.

The first retractable field that I remember was the Gelredome in Holland where Vitesse play (I believe it was the first in the world). It opened in 1998. It also has a retractable roof, two very snazzy upgrades for a 25k seat stadium

Here is a pic with the field on the outside

If memory serves, RB Arena was the most expensive in the league (ignoring TFC's big expansion).

That was likely a combination of the complete roof and the fact that building in the NY/NJ area is ultra expensive.

What is in Isco's hair?

Edit - from his first half head injury - they put a cream on him to stop the bleeding.

PSG unlucky today.

Arsenal really need at least a point today. Bellerin has already been ruled out today, so it will be Debuchy marking Costa

If the favorites, Bayern and Olympiakos, win, the group is essentially over.
