Italy's starting strikers today are perhaps the least sounding Italians in history :) . I think Edar was born and raised in Brazil.

Thanks for that...cant watch the game...that was a beautiful through ball from Veratti on the Eder goal. Veratti is a throwback to the old school; he has a beautiful touch & vision on long, through balls, but he also loves to get "stuck in" & do the dirty work required of a CM...and this holds true with both club & country. Usually, that balance is not prevalent in today's game, but I would like to see him show more control when it comes to needless YCs...it's gone from penchant to habit, & Italy can ill afford such lapses.

Tim Krul out for the year with a knee injury.
I'll let somebody else pun that one.

and good to see college soccer chat enacted. my alma mater cracked the top 25 earlier, sadly for the first time since my days, and seem to be having a decent start to the season

Starting next year, in specific friendly games, MLS will be trialing video review.

3 specific plays will be reviewed. Awarded goals, awarded pk's and red cards.

These 3 items were chosen since they have a natural break in the action that allows for a quick review.

Here is the full article. Holland wanted to do a similar trial first but FIFA rejected it and MLS is getting around it by using friendlies.

oh... so it's in-game video review, not post-game? interesting.

Just noticed that in the final week of the MLS season, all the eastern conference games are at 5 on sunday, and all the west's are at 7. I think this is the first year that they've all even been on the same day, let alone the same time.

Little league all grows up.

I assume this means offside goals will be reviewed? I didn't see it specifically called out in the article but if so, that is a good.

This was in part because of the new TV deal. The networks wanted the ability to pick and choose which games to show on the last weekend and the only way to do that was to have them all played at the same time based on the two network windows.

I would guess if it is an awarded goal they could review it

Need a new app now that TuneIn and it's family is a ####. Who has a smartphone app I can use to listen to the premier league in my car... for free? FotMob has some games, but not all of them and it is often a crappy "commentary" not your typical live game coverage.

So... any options?

Wait, you mean the crowd noise on FotMob isn't real?

I have heard good things about this one but have not used it myself

I actually just downloaded the android version of that. TalkSport is what was broadcast on TuneIn, so I hope they did not put up a paywall on the Talksport app.

Otherwise, it seems to be just what I am looking for - thanks.

I will fight you.

Serbia played Portugal on Sunday and according to Guinness book of records, one thing happened for the first time ever.

Serbia declared Kolarov a captain

Kolarov was subbed and Matic was made captain

Matic picked up a red cad and Tossic was named captain

Tosic was subbed out and Stojkovic was named captain

First time ever in a non friendly international that 4 players were captain for one team in one game.

Oh and the really fun part is that this occurred over an 8 minute period :)

Fox has made a bold step in trying to help promote the Bundesliga.

In 2016 (second half of 2015/2016 season), they will be airing 8 games live on the mothership.

best of luck to them.

In spite of my previous statements to the contrary (wife- how much soccer can you watch? ... me- all of it)... I don't have the time or interest to get caught up with the Bundesliga. when I heard they were going to be showing games, my first thought was  between MLS, EPL, CL and USMNT... my plate's full.

Wolfsburg was planning to build a new youth academy worth close to 40 million euros but those plans had to be shelved because of the financial mess VW is in.

VW owns Wolfsburg.

Seems like very poor planning - FOX with the massive BL hype this summer, fails to deliver in the Fall, then goes "all-in" in the second half of the season when there most likely will only be relegation interest in the BL table.

bah!

Stop typing and turn on one of 3 live Euro Qualifying matches that are on TV right now :)

I never thought the time would come that I would say there is too much soccer on the air, but I think for the overall strength of the game, there is too much and the audience is splintered more than any other sport, leaving soccer tv ratings lower than they could be IMO.

I agree about the planning.

And to compound the problem, the games are being chosen blindly since Fox has already set the 2016 broadcast windows and the Bundesliga has not set the second half schedule yet.

I still can't get over this Dutch team.

This team is loaded with talent and are in real danger of not even making the playoffs for Euro qualifying, which means they finished behind 27 other Euro teams.
