***Official Texas Rangers 2013 Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Chris Carter sure looks terrible in the outfield. I suppose they'll eventually trade Pena and move him back to 1B or DH.

I didn't expect much fielding from him, but the fact that his bat has become allergic to baseballs is concerning.

why a day off? 2 days in the first week? WTF?
I thought about that this morning. Weird, but I think we have to ignore Monday. That game was basically just played a day early.

I think we got an extra day off since they moved our game from Monday to Sunday for SNB. A lot of cloder climate teams have a day off following their scheduled opening day in case there is a rain out on OD they can try to play it the following day. That obviously wasn't the case in our series with Houston being a dome team.

Josh striking out to end the game today put a huge smile on my face. Almost made up for no game.
1-12 with 6 strikeouts, including 2 as the potential winning run in the ninth inning.

I know he'll start hitting soon, I just really don't want it start this weekend. #schadenfreude

in post-game interview, Hamilton doubles-down on the "not a baseball town" comments. Also says he's never heard it louder there (than it was today to boo him).

that last comment is pure poppycock. i was there today, and i've been to one of the WS games. No comparison.

i wonder if Josh filters the praise, and only hears the negative

Next time I hear something along the lines of "You just don't understand how much they love football in Texas", am I supposed to tell that person they are an idiot because Dallas and Arlington are baseball towns?

If that's not the case, I'll go with my original reaction, which is to think that anybody that brought a stupid newspaper to that game to taunt the man that took that once worthless franchise to 2 WS's is a moron.

Actually, I'd think they are an idiot either way.

Remember when you guys gave up on Chris Davis?
He was being outplayed by Moreland, out of options and a centerpiece for an important trade. He's turned it around and won't be booed in Arlington. Not sure why that's being brought up.

Sorry... next time I'll run a topic by you before I bring it up. You really not sure why someone would mention him?

He was traded from the rangers 2 seasons ago. Can we expect you to post in this thread about every player that used to be a ranger that goes on a hitting streak? Remember when Texas gave up on A-rod and Texiera?

Not sure who pissed in your cheerios, but I'll re-word this to match your tone: I'll talk about whatever the #### I want to talk about. If you don't like it, don't read it. Rangers fans spent five years telling us Crush Davis was a HOF legend in the making, and then the Rangers gave up on him right before he actually figured things out. Just picking at you guys on April 5th.

New topic submitted for approval: Nelson Cruz's RF ability in Busch Stadium circa October 2011.

sidebar: Moreland got sat down for a lefty-lefty matchup today. When is olt ready?
My opinion is that Olt should get an extended look soon. You have to figure out if he can do it as a regular soon.

They didn't give up on him they traded him for an important bullpen piece. The orioles clearly won that trade. He was out of options and couldn't get regular playing times to figure things out in Texas. Did the Giants give up Zack Wheeler or the Royals give up on Wil Myers? Somewhat similar situation facing them now with Julio Borbon. He will most likely get claimed off wires next week or traded for next to nothing and could be a decent 3rd/4th outfielder for someone, but Texas can't keep him on big league roster. I expect Olt will get called up in June if Baker can't cut it. Sooner if/when Cruz gets suspended.

1. why does it have to be one or the other?

2. i didn't see anyone with a newspaper. i don't even know what that is referencing.

3. worthless? thanks for stopping by.

actually, Moreland started the game against the lefty Vargas. He was lifted for a pinch-hitter late in the game against a lefty reliever, after another 0-3 day

yes, the Chris Davis trade looks bad now (even at the time i thought we paid too much), but the Justin Smoak deal was pretty sweet.

There was a group of fans that held up newspaper like they were reading the paper and ignoring Josh during his ab's. not sure how many people participated in that, but it got a lot of camera time during his ab's.

Did you get approval from ctdub to speak of Justin Smoak? Traded that guy like three years ago.

Is that related to the "Silence For Josh" movement that (predictably) got little traction?

I didn't see anyone with a newspaper either. He was roundly booed, which makes perfect sense to anyone who followed this team closely the past eight months. I understand the confusion from outsiders though.

The group of fans holding up newspapers amounted to one guy that brought a newspaper in and passed around sections to his neighbors that wanted in on the bit. Not sure why this made national news.

yeah, my wife attended two games this weekend and I asked her about the newspapers thing. She said, "newspapers???"

Big week. Going to have to roll out the back of the rotation in full, blister-talk, and oaklaaaaa series.

Quietly oak piled up 5 wins. Warrants mentioning.
