she has a cd drive already...

said i would just have to buy the agp vid card...
The barebones deal is no longer available, and frankly there is no way you are doing much gaming with a crappy celeron like that.
uh, ok...go spend 500 and ship the working unit to me...

i'll paypal you...
Let me grab a bunch of newegg links for you to acquire. If it safe to assume you can find someone to install a new CPU, RAM and video card?
You have a socket A motherboard, so we start off with a huge improvement at CPU:Socket A AMD XP 3200+ $185

G.Skill PC3200 512 RAM module $31

Hot damn, I still have almost $300 for a video card. Now, I am going to try and get one that supports HDR for our good friend, since my X850XT does not, I was a little :sadbanana: and I have to wait to play on the home rig to see it in all its splendor.

And here we are - we get tremendous bang for the buck in the:

PNY AGP 6800 GS $229

That puts us, not counting shipping, at $445, so you still have room for plenty of shipping and even a hard drive if need be. All with your current motherboard. Now I am assuming that you have a free RAM slot, Zippy, since I don't recall if I ever got that info from you.

Well, open up the case and look at the motherboard. All I need to know is if there is another long slot next to your current RAM for another. Then we are golden, and it will be a bunch better than that POS barebones deal.

Would you recommend that for my rig, or the card you mentioned earlier?
The important thing is that it supports HDR if you want a lot of eye candy in Oblivion. Frankly, there are very few games that take advantage of it right now. This card is better than the other one, no doubt, both in raw power and HDR support, so if you can swing it, go for it. You can always sell your old video card on eBay to make up the difference.

I'm not an eBay guy. I'll just send it to you and you can take a fixed percentage the profit.

Fine by me. A 9800 will fetch between $40 and $80 used.

Might not even be worth the hassle of shipping, then. Maybe $20-$40. Let me look.

Just a note of caution. I have a pair of 1GB GSKILL memory sticks - and they will NOT work in dual channel mode at 400MHZ on my slot A motherboard (ASUS A7N8X / nforce 2). It's a known issue with many older slot A boards running PC3200 memory and can't be corrected even with the latest BIOS updates... Instead of overpaying for an end-of-life processor like the slot A XP 3200+, spend a couple extra bucks (literally) and spring for a slot 754 mobo/CPU combo instead. The memory will work guaranteed -- slot 754 processors don't support dual channel memory access.

Hey.. I have a GeForce4 Ti 4600... its a 128MB Card... should this be able to run the game? I tried to play and everything is fine until i get to create my player. The the screen where the guy should be is bright white and i can see neon eyes and a couple of other neon marks on that side of the screen. Where you can change the options for race, ect. it's fine. Any ideas? :(

uh, B, Y, N, W, V, D, C, R?

Any idea about all the doors that "cannot be picked, you need a key" in the main dungeon?

Where do i get this "key"?
What "main dungeon"? There are craploads of dungeons.
Sorry...first dungeon. City dungeon.
Where do you enter it?
Its where you start out the game. Throughout the dungeon, and especially in the room the Emperor gets killed in there are doors that seem impossible to get up to or open.

BTW, you can drag bodies..."Z" button to grab ;) Not necessary, but fun for screenshots.

Got invited and accepted into the theives guild last night and was able to get promoted in it, already. But, I really wanna become an assassain as well...though as someone in the theives guild, they say you are not allowed to murder anyone...

Is there a way you can be in both the Theives Guild and the Dark Brotherhood???

Yep. You can join all of the guilds, but apparently, they will conflict at some point, making you choose in which you want to advance.

I believe those come into play later when/if you do a quest for the Dark Brotherhood.

There wasn't even time for Vanna to turn the letters.

OK, what do I play tonight - Oblivion or Battlefield 2? :wall:

I am now level 3. I went to town on alchemy and advanced a ton to get me going. This last level up, I had 5 stats which all had bonuses between 2 and 5 to choose from. My speed is up to 80, agility like 70-something.

Something else I like about the game is how magical stuff is pretty sparse. Here I am at level 3 and still have the cheap rough leather cuirass/boots combo and steel bow.

Oblivion until the TS party. Bunch of us trying to play, I'll be in around 8:30 CST.

Yea, have you also noticed how there aren't tons of random plates and bowls worth crazy amoutns of cach just laying everywhere. That, and merchants don't buy stolen goods really helps balance the game out well.

That would be a waste of :moneybag: The minimum would be an ATI x700 or NVidia 6600 GT. ATI has their X800 GTO for abrely over $100.

Well, I found a Cursed Mine that was the base for a bunch of bandits mining silver. Killed them all, took the sweet armor and helmet their boss had, mined some silver and went and bought meself a horsie. I shall call him Gator Shawn and beat him whenever he misbehaves. :)

Restarted last night after getting the guide (not for cheats and walk-thrus, but for answers to some questions I had). This is me:

(Male) Wood Elf

Birthsign: Thief

Specialization: Stealth

Major Skills: Agility and Speed

Seven Skills: Alchemy, Security, Sneak, Marksmen, Light Armor, Blade, and Illusion

So far, I am very happy with this build. I call it "Ranged Death". My thinking behind it is basically a Stealthy, Ranged Thief-Assassain.

My biggest ??? that I had when choosing my 7 main skills was blade or Destruction. Not sold on blade, but time will tell.

I am getting many MANY one shot kills while sneaking up on unsuspecting bandits and others.

As soon as I left the sewers, I headed across the lake to Vilverin and OMFG that is a huge dungeon. Funny thing is, the book calls that it "baby's first dungeon"

While not altogether tough, it's huge and the zombies really gave me some trouble, as I'd hit and run, hit and run, but eventually got them. Is that dungeon part of a quest that I did not get "yet"? Anyone have any idea?

And with that, I'm out for dinner and back to "waste" my Saturday night with just me and my girl, playing this game together  :nerd: (yes, she is diggin' on this game as much as I am  )

Almost the exact same character as you except I chose Acrobatics as opposed to Alchemy (I have no desire to make potions) and I used the Dark Elf because I'm a Destruction freak!

My first was a Dark Elf, but the more research I did, the more the Wood Elf seemed more to suit me, although those destruction based attacks are N-I-C-E.-fe

I am a wood elf with Stealth, agility and speed. Alchemy, Blade, Marksman, Destruction, Lt armor, sneak and athletics.

Did anyone do the Sideways Cave right outside the sewer exit? I have a quick question.
The one across the lake?
I suppose. I came out of the swer and saw a rock outcropping to the right of me (90 deg or so) with a flying Imp thing there. When I got a little closer, it said "you have found the Sideways Cave" so I went in. It has three sections I think, one being a lake section.

Interesting. That must be a new cave I had not found. Cool. There are a lot of dungeons in this game that have absolutely nothing to do with quests. They are just there. Great game so far. My stealth sniping is pretty deadly at this point. Anyone else buy themselves a horse yet? I got a 1000 gold Bay Horse at Skingrad.

Yeah, I'm stuck down in some elven ruin that I stumbled across. The traps are very cool to watch (once you get out of them, of course). I've found all sorts of lewt down there, but can't make my way past a "hard" lock to exit the thing. This game is killing me though. I am one of the masses that are experiencing constant crashes... despite turning everything to the lowest settings, updating all my video drivers (both Catalyst and Omega), mobo drivers, removing codecs, updating and testing via DirectX, my wife divorcing me, testing through the "will my PC run this?" site and uninstalling and reinstalling Oblivion. :wall:

I'm going to try a clean install of XP and a reinstall of Oblivion and see if that works.

I have barely played this thing. Unfortunately, my two boys (one 11, one 18) LOVE dad's new game and are both playing. Since dad has the only computer that will run it, this is NOT a good thing! I got out of the sewer and did that cave, that's it. Maybe two hours total play. Horse? Heck, I just finally made it in to town to sell the crap I picked up in the prison and sewers. That's it so far.

dang, that sucks. I was having some crashes, but it was due to power supply issues instead of drivers.

How the heck do you ever progress in this game? I have been in Skingrad forever doing quests and crap. I have not even sniffed the main quest and am almost level 4 now.

(I sent you an email with some basic info).. forgot to add.. If you look in your quest log, you should have the main quest info.. go to Weynon Priory and see Jauffre... Alot of info tucked away here

In Morrowind, I believe I was well in to the level 20 region before I even began to think about the main quest! That's what's great about this game.

Well I snagged a $1000 card from work just so I could see the game... jumpy as hell since it's not a gaming card.. but the game looks awesome.. so i'm going to break down and buy a card.

I'm deep into the main quest.First, I had to go see Jauffre in the Weynon Priory.

Then you go to see Martin Svatch.

Then you have a ##### of a time because you have to travel through the oblivion gate. All one on one combat there so you can shoot and run if want.

I'm 3 or 4 steps beyond that now, fighting the Mythic Dawn cult.

My 5 year old is too busy pwning Star Wars Battlefront 2. He's amazing. I'm tempted to let him play online one day to see how he does.
