Why did Negan let the Kingdom keep their weapons?

Also the point of inventory the weapons just seem off to me, I guess its just a plot point to advance the story

This weeks show didn't have Maggie in it. Not worth watching. TWD needs to realize what sells this show and it's Maggie. Get it together people. She better not be dead either.

All the folks in Alexandria deserve to be subjugated.  they knew for days that Negan was coming by to harvest half their stuff.  They could have fought, or they could have packed up and migrated.  Imagine Negan rolling in to Alexandria and finding only a crazy smiling Priest, a pair of Maggie's panties, and a map to Terminus.

Alternatively imagine them rolling in, finding nothing, rolling back out after some unsatisfying looting of insignificant things and tired, low on fuel, and bunched in their vehicles a joint ambush on the road by Hilltop and Alexandria, together, happened.  these two groups, together, could not have fashioned an IED or two to take out the lead truck or two and then started blasting away from cover at vehicles exposed on the road?

What sells this show is Rosita.  Given Negan's weakness for hotties she and Sasha should lure him to his doom in some feaky deaky ménage a mort.

Imagine if Rick had instructed Eugene to construct maybe a dozen IED.  Two or three would have devastated Negan's expeditionary group running out to Alexandria.  The Alexandrian's would have struck the biggest blow ever against a Negan army still reeling somewhat from their recent losses in their Biker Berserker Corp and at their outpost.  If they were still feeling warlike, now sans their leader, and not yet understanding what devastated their expeditionary column, they might have rolled out, in force, down the most direct route to Alexandria and had been very subject to running into Eugene's IED's.

More or less game over at that point, strength depleted, in disarray, walkers coming towards the sound, the Alexandrian's still mobile and potentially fighting an organized rear guard retreat to their walls at Alexandria, or hunting up the devastated, confused, and now outgunned immobile remnants (remember, in addition to their weapons they would have had access to scavenged weapons from the first ambush).  No, Negan's crew was ripe for taking had the Alexandrians sought to exploit their overconfidence and to have introduced a new warfare aspect heretofore unpracticed by these groups.

I know its a zombie show but they way they have crafted Rick up until now you would have thought they would fight back especially since they had the upper hand initially.  But in hindsight he did say somethign like "I thought you were coming in a week" so who knows.  They are screwed now

They'd be sacrificing daryl, but daryl would probably prefer to die knowing the group is fighting.

He is defeated.. for now..

At this point he has his small group of "peasants" who were just learning how to fight vs. Negan and his army.
At some point you have to realize you don't have the numbers and bend.. Michonne brought up Hilltop last night.. With her finding the Mattresses burning it will "light a fire" under her and Rick to find a way out..

Cue up Carol and Morgan at some point showing back up at Alexandria to talk to Rick about The King.. Once that happens, then Rick will realize between The Kingdom, Hilltop and Alexandria they might have a fighting chance..

Until then your job is to keep your people alive, even if that means  to Negan for now.
And the group is set back big time by this week's activities.  There's a difference between tactical patience and losing ground and resources.  Obviously things will turn out relatively alright (it is a tv show after all) but this week was a huge setback for the crew.

I do wonder if daryl pretends to go along at some point.  He's been given the opportunity but so far us unwilling to take the hit to his pride.  Eventually maybe he "gives in" and comes out ahead in the long run.

As mentioned above.. Rick's first response to Negan was "I thought you said we had a week" ... Very possible that it has only been a couple of days and had they had a full week to prepare they might have had time to hide things outside city limits..

But again, as Rick said .. If you hide things and get caught someone is going to meet Lucille :deadhorse:

Right now Daryl is taking his punishment for getting Glenn killed. He won't subject himself fully to being Negan's lackey..  At some point he probably will feel he has taken enough punishment, or someone like Dwight will open his eyes, and the Daryl we know will come back for vengeance..

Did anybody else get the idea that maybe Negan cut Daryl's tongue out?  I can't see a mute Daryl and I'm sure it's just a power thing with Negan, but I still got that vibe when Daryl didn't say a word...

They need some ancient ******** to come visit them and drop some "head of the snake" wisdom on them.  Maybe they'd then realize that all they had to do was kill Negan and his followers are so cowed by him they'd be completely unprepared.  Where is David Carradine when you need him?  Definitely not a zombie, probably living in the mountains somewhere.

Oh well, we still have a couple of episodes left to complain until Carol rides in and saves the day again.

Probably true.

Dwight - does he go down on negan's side or does he help daryl? He gave some indications that he could be swayed.

They had a ####### rocket launcher.

1.  They must not have posed as great of a threat.  Or, maybe he initially took them but gave them back once he felt they were sufficiently submitted to him.

2. I think the heavy chick was inventorying things back in other episodes.  Makes sense to inventory the weapons.  As much as I find wrong with this show,* that plot point didn't bother me.

The way Negan bobs his head to emphasize every word is starting to get annoying.

Yep.  And throwing his shoulders back.  I was just thinking about this last night.  it's getting old fast.
you both nailed it... this got old starting last night.

I think they definitely COULD have fought back, but a) Rick was broken, and b) the show is driving the point home that they don't have the numbers.  If they were a fully trained battalion of Marines - then sure, they could have used guerilla tactics to wipe out the Saviors.  They aren't.  They just lost Abraham, who was the one guy that might have been able to craft up an effective defense.

They clearly stated "even with us and the Hilltop, we don't have the numbers" - so obviously, the Kingdom coming into play is going to sway thing substantially.  Losing all those guns hurts - I wonder if somehow Dwight (if he turns) or Daryl finds a way to recover a lot of them.

I don't know the back-story, but I get the sense that the Kingdom didn't mass-murder a whole outpost of negan's people in their sleep.

inventory thing could have been anything... negan picked something to threaten them with, to rattle rick.

IMO, dwight- given a whole episode dedicated to more of his back-story, becomes a major player/catalyst in bringing down negan.

Taking inventory makes sense.

Not knowing where two handguns are makes less sense. Unless she's just not good at her job.

He is just way to over the top.  All the questions were bothering me too.  "You got that, Rick?"..."You see what Im doing here, Riick?" Etc.

I love the show but I am done with them meeting new people who are always nuts/killers etc.  Id much rather them come up with a better idea and travel...go to a new state...the traveling and dealing with the zombies is what I like best about the show.

I don't think Negan was originally going to take all their weapons.  But the little show that Carl put on got him thinking that not everyone in Alexandria might bow down.  The Kingdom doesn't present that type of threat in Negan's eyes.

I'm with you on all of that. comic-book crazy man is something I find idiotic- governor was a real low point in the show for me... I'll hold out hope on negan, but devolving fast.

I didn't mind the questions as much with negan- the writing wasn't what bothered me as much as the repetition of physical choices the actor made, pointed out by shady and clown

I don't think Dwight brings him down.  I think Darryl/the crew actually brings down Neegan, and Dwight makes a choice after the fact not to shoot Darryl/stop them and joins the group.

The show is losing me a a lot. I like the first episode a lot, the rest, meh. The inventory thing was just silly. Why give Negan your list? Why would Negan even know there is a list? Why would Negan flip out over two missing hand guns? Carl was just stupid as well. Almost like they had to figure out a way to get Negan to take the weapons just so Rosita's hand gun becomes a huge part of the story. I glossed over some of the old story lines where you knew they were just a means to an end, but this whole show seemed like a means to get to Rosita asking Eugene for ammo. All that work just to get back to making ammo to fight Negan. I got bored real quick this season.

could be. I got the sense that dwight will turn before negan falls- help darryl to get free... will probably be rick's group that gets the kill.

Commercials were worse than during an NFL game.  I think I watched more commercials on Sunday than actual football games/TWD.

This.  Rick's group is lucky that Negan didn't come down way harder.  They executed a bunch of people who had never done anything to them so they could have some more resources.  Rick's group is not standing on any moral high ground here...

One of Negan's squad took the inventory list.  They weren't expecting Negan's crew that early.

For those thinking they should have just killed Negan and taken their chances....

There is a 95% chance that if you follow his rules everyone lives.. But if you kill him, the odds are 50/50 whether his followers would start killing or run and hide.

Might be me, but I'll take the better then 95% chance to survive following him for now, then the 50/50 chance of living.

Was it me or did some of the commercials feel out of place? Like usually when they go to a commercial, it seems like it fits into the show. Some of the times last night when they went to a break, just seemed to be odd timing. It was like AMC wanted some more money out of last night's episode.

They were - that's why Dwight took all the weapons from Rosita's car before she went out.

Still think it was foolish to a) Not destroy the inventory list. Not having an accounting of all the guns is believable, and b) not stash some away for a rainy day.  if Rick was so worried, he could have kept it to himself - but still.  I get they were trying to show how broken he was, but still feels like there should have been a part of him that knew he had to have a plan b.   Hell, just skip town.

I Think there is some truth in this. But boy was I screaming at the TV for Rick to just shoot him in the head when Negan was on the other side of the gate knocking on it with the  bat to come in.
