Does anyone else despise Carol?
Used to. Still has the kind of face you want to biotch slap, but she's definitely turned the corner for me in her attitude. Its like they've made her into a replacement of Shane. No nonsense, survival is everything. With the exception that she is more team oriented and Shane was more "what's in it for me".
I just don't buy her as a baddass killing machine. It's laughable. Should've killed her and kept Andrea alive.
You've got to be in the extreme minority in that opinion.

Not this year and possibly not next year, but at some point they will need to fast forward into the future and introduce a grown up badass Carl and get rid of that lack of talent one they have now. I think that would be a cool twist to the series. It would be easy to age the others.

Better looking and her comic version was way better than Carol.

Good gravy. The bottle rocket is the real problem. When was the last time those things ever went in the direction you wanted them except for up?
I was just happy they acknowledged a shot from a rifle wouldn't make the thing explode. Beyond that... I can let Carol have her MacGyver moment. :cutler:
Agreed. I would have rather had her point it and use the hole in a wiffle ball bat to bring back childhood memories, but alas, it was going to happen regardless.

No wonder why you have a problem with the bottle rocket. Didn't you ever have bottle rocket fights or hang out with friends and set off fireworks? We played lots of baseball growing up, so shooting bottle rockets off with wiffle ball bats was something we did. Hence the nostalgia. FYI, there is a small hole at the top of the bat that fits the stick well. It was fairly accurate.
You must have had better bottle rockets out where you live. For us, they went all over the place. The prison rocket was a bit more that a bottle rocket though.
me too. we could line up 5 guys across from 5 guys at 10 yards and not come close to hitting eachother.

I guess we needed wiffle-ball bats

Carol wins, if only for the look at the flowers episode (I actually like the direction she's gone, as much as the original character was annoying).

Nah. The opening on a WBB was too large and it only went on for a cm or two. You needed something thinner and longer. Even using your hands to stabilize it, they still went all over the place.

We always used PVC pipe.

For bottle rockets that's a wiener in a hallway.

Frankly, I'm amazed that any fan of the show could watch that episode and then complain about it.
I said the same thing. If you're #####ing about this episode you just don't like the show.
It was a great episode and I love the show. I also like pointing out things that don't make sense though. As someone previously posted, why in the world are they wasting 500 rounds of ammo to force the group to the train car? It made no sense. Pointing out points like this makes for an interesting discussion IMO. I mean, where else can you have a two page discussion on the use of wiffle ball bats?

An added benefit is it keeps the thread up top for new comments and easier access.

The best part about the Terminus escape is that they'll now be exploring again. The escape itself was OK. So I'll say I liked half of that. 75%?

You don't think they'll be heading right back there once the folks from Terminus start hunting them? The folks remaining at Terminus will be dragged out this entire season. Mark my words.

Well, that's a big oof. At least we might get a decent second half.

There are three types of people complaining about that episode.1. Trolls who like to stir the pot.

2. Snobs who have to come in an swing their literary ##### around to show off (who despite their distain for how bad the show is still watch every week).

3. Old middle school teachers who hate everything.

5: fans of the show who find the silly things silly- and are able to talk about them without diminishing their own ability in liking the show.

you guys (WD apologists) don't have to defend every single thing- there's a lot of bizarre and poorly written stuff in this show... learn to embrace and enjoy it. there is a middle ground here.

I agree. I've been critical of the show where I believe it's warranted. But I still thought the premiere was sensational. In my opinion if you're #####ing about it, you're just looking for things to ##### about. That was damn good television in my opinion.

It was good stuff... doesn't make the other things disappear. and those other things didn't keep it from being good stuff.

Guess it all comes down to those other things and how significant they really are. For me, I focus on the story and characters. If something occurs which mucks up one or both of those things (like Andrea in Season 3) that's a significant problem with the show. Building a moat around the prison or wondering why the lawns are always mowed? Not so much. :)

My first thought was "well you don't even need #3, Tanner's got the first two locked down."

This one.

I'm not sure why people get so defensive about minor criticism of the show. I agree that it was an awesome episode, but I enjoy discussing actions that don't necessarily make sense (in a zombie filled world).

This.

Why can't I enjoy the show/episode while still having minor criticisms?

Oh, it hurts your feelings? Oh, you personally wrote this and take offense at my criticisms? Sorry.

So based on the Season 5 trailer we know the following is coming up:

Gareth joins the group and the plan appears to be to head to DC.

Rick may not be on board with that plan. There appears to be a confrontation of sorts between him and Abraham.

Others from Terminus may be with him. At one point Gareth says "You don't trust us" plural.

3 people from the group are taken, missing, something. Both Sasha and Rick reference the group not being together.

So what will be interesting to see is how the group brings in Gareth. What could possibly occur that would lead them to accept him into the group even on a short-term basis?

I agree with someone that said that maybe Morgan is showing up at terminus sometime in the future.

No one in Rick's group appeared to leave marks on the trees. Therefore it would have to be someone else following Rick's group that left the marks. It would make sense that a Terminus person followed Rick's group and left marks for other Termites to follow. Maybe, as someone else speculated the gum chewer was not killed by Tyresse and he ends up following Rick's Group. He leaves the marks and Morgan (and perhaps others) ends up following them to catch up to Rick and his group.

The gum chewer catches up to Rick's group and kills Tyresse proving his point that Tyresse is too good to live in the current world.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Interesting points you make. I also like Dhockster's theory that gum chewer is the one leaving the markers for the trail Rick's group is taking (don't like the killing Tyrese part, though). ;)

I really wonder what Gareth could use for leverage in order to team up with Rick's group? Does he know where Beth is being kept? Does Gareth (et al.) save Rick's group from a bad situation/person? It will be interesting to see how this element of the story unfolds.

How do you know three people are missing or have been taken from the group? I'm sure I'm spacing it, but all I can come up with is Beth.

Definitely seems like Rick and Abraham will have some differences along the line, as Andrew Lincoln said in an interview that they are both alphas. Could make for an interesting dynamic.

Not really defensive at all. In fact, the show has been more miss than hit for a while now. But i thought this particular episode was, front to back, the best episode I've seen in a long time. I was so excited (relieved?) that the premiere delivered way beyond expectations.

Man, they better have something ironclad to explain it, because it just seems inconceivable that they'd team up with Gareth.

Just a heads up - the only "spoilers" I'm referencing are from the Season 5 trailer. I'm avoiding anything else beyond previews shown by AMC so if anyone is referencing other spoilers please give a heads up and I'll avoid clicking on the spoiler link. Thanks. :)

And now to address your points:

As far as people from the group being missing both Sasha and Rick talk about some people from the group being missing or not with the rest in the trailer. So something happens to someone.

Whatever leverage Gareth has to get into the group has to be enormous. Obviously nothing else would make a lick of sense given what he's done.

The Rick-Abraham relationship is the one I'm most interested in seeing unfold this season. Two strong leaders whose agendas may not match up. Rick needs strength alongside him but will he and Abraham be able to co-exist? I'm really interested to see where that goes
